Macheda Given Green Light For Loan?

One of Macheda's main problems is he very rarely plays in a good/settled United team, and pretty often plays up front on his own. I think if he got a run of games he'd look a lot more comfortable. Unlikely to happen at the moment though.

West Brom please, surely he'd get games imo.

Not sure about that. The level is lower in Italy and they just lost Cassano as a option. Behind Pazzini its rather thin at Sampdoria, and they have a goalscoring problem, only 18 goals this season at 16 matches. He goes to a decent Italian team too, they have as many points as Inter, and where top 4 last season. I am sure he will get quite a bit of playing time in West Brom too, but I think this should be a 18 month loan. We cant be 100% certain that WBA will even be in the Premier League next season.

Kiko has rarely been given a proper chance with us.

He’s either up top on his own or stuck out on the left in a disjointed mish mash line up.

I'm a little disappointed we haven’t been able to give him any experience partnered with Rooney or Berba but I guess there's little that could be done about that. Certainly for the past 2 pre seasons he’s looked great paired with our established strikers.

I hope he shines wherever he goes, and I hope our contract with him is watertight.

I'm personally not fuss whether he goes or not regardless of how he does in his loan

But i would rather he stay at United and give us an extra body especially during the run-in, what with Michael Owen's inevitable injury sometime soon

He's off to Sampdoria, lets he gets minutes on the pitch and returns back to us as a better player, good luck Kiko.

Was there no interest from the Premier League? I'd rather have sent him to the Championship than Serie A.

Good business this.. He will learn an awful alot from Pazzini and Garrone.. He'll be back with great match fitness and improved skill.

West Brom were apparently interested, but it's possible they didn't offer enough assurances about game time and/or Macheda preferred Italy.

'Sampdoria president Riccardo Garrone is looking forward to the arrival of Manchester United starlet Federico Macheda and believes he will be a capable replacement for now-Milan striker Antonio Cassano.

Earlier on Monday, the Italy Under-21 international's agent revealed a loan deal was only lacking an official announcement and that Macheda could be available for the Blucerchiati's clash with Roma on Sunday.

"He will fill the void left by Cassano and surely do fine," Garrone was quoted as saying by Rai Sport at a friendly match in Bogliasco, basically confirming the move.

"In these [next] five months we will treat him well. With him [on board] enthusiasm has increased ten fold."

The latest reports indicate that the deal could be finalised by Tuesday evening.'

I think it got to the point where the lad needed games, he's not going to progress unless he gets real time on the pitch.

Only thing obviously is if Michael Owen gets injured again before the end of the season. Just look at the end of last season - Rooney injuring his ankle, Owen being injured. We weren't left with much up front and I think that killed our hopes in the end in competitions.

What happens if the same occurs this time? We have Berbatov, Rooney, Chicharito and Owen. We just have to hope that Owen gets through the season unscathed.

Having Chicharito last season would, imo been the difference between us and the title.

Last year we had no one to replace Rooney when he got injured. This year if we had to play the final few weeks with Rooney and Owen out I'd be very confident with Hernandez fit.
