According to Wiki, his United reign carries his worst win percentage of all his managerial jobs.

Ajax 68.77%
Bayern 61.46%
Netherlands (2012-2014) 60.71%
AZ Alkmaar 57.95%
Barca (1997-2000) 55.56%
Barca (2002-2003) - 53.33%
Netherlands (2000-2002) 53.33%
United 50.70%

He's statistically doing the worst job he's ever done.
Time to call it a day then before he ruins his legacy. Also speaks volumes about the state of our team, no excuse for us not putting the ball in the back of the net or looking like we give a shit in the last 30 minutes of each game.

If it wasn't going right we could at least trust the bus driver to hit Rooney when Jose throws him under it.

If Mourinho joins us, the conversation will be interesting.
"Wayne, you were a good player, but you cannot score goals anymore. Hah. A striker who can't score goals, is no good. What do you want to do?"
Basically, he'll try and get Rooney to walk.

Whereas that may be true and the accusations against Mourinho and how he leaves clubs can be exaggerated. For me, it is not even about that, I just never want to see Manchester United playing against the big teams like underdogs. Having that attitude of a reactive team whenever we come up against City is something I don't want to see. It still nags me that our best side of the '00s had to play like underdogs against the worst Barcelona side of the decade in 2008 but at least we weren't doing it regularly. The thought of us doing that regularly is not a nice one for me and even winning the league is very little consolation to be a team known for that.

In an ideal world, I agree. But I would live with it for a few years if it meant reinstalling the habit of winning silverware (particularly if other options are limited if Guardiola is set on City and Ancelotti is off to Munich (and with Klopp already at Liverpool).

My feelings exactly, I am shocked by how many of the same people that hammer LvG's every week for playing boring, negative football, want Jose in.

More than anything else, it looks like his own confidence seems shaken. You could see that in his press conference prior to the game when he seemed visibly upset over something. May be he had a meeting with Woodward and been reminded of the results but even in his post match conference his bullish demeanor is nowhere the same.

LVG was the wrong guy from day one. Good bye, go back to Holland.

Who else was available at that time?

The majority thought he was the man for the job in fairness, it's just not worked out for him. He should 100% leave his position now though.

In fairness, I thought he was the only remotely qualified candidate at the time. Trouble is, he seems to be using this job as a relaxing swansong and in the process boring us into submission with mediocrity.

Moyes was there and sticking with him would have us in better position now. He wasn't only available, he had the job.

Majority was wrong on Moyes to leave. Majority was wrong on LVG to take over.

No way. Moyes had his chance and he failed miserably.

Honestly can't confirm anything but if anyone watches SSN Italy can you confirm;

NEWS: José Mourinho says no to AS Roma and talking to Manchester United. Mourinho would like to replace Van Gaal. [Sky Italy]

EDIT: From Twitter.

you do know moyes got sacked by another club again this season?

Hopefully if Van Gaal does last a couple more games he realises he's on the brink and just goes for it.

two wrongs don't make a right. moyes was not the right guy and neither is LVG. my fear with moist was that we'd have bought baines in his second yr and finish 6th. he didn't have the drawing power needed. LVG is just out of touch with what the job is. selling players than asking for players very much like those who he sold. no they both were bad picks.

Just been watching this video again. Has much actually changed? This could easily be about LVG, but the sad thing is he even mentions him as an idea replacement for Moyes.

The Caf is strange tonight, everyone is talking as if he's already left.

I've a feeling he's got at least 2 more games to get us back on track. Whether I think he deserves 2 more is another matter.

Not at all. The players clearly did not believe in Moyes anymore and there was no way he could continue. In actual fact, if we'd have sacked Moyes at the beginning of February after the Stoke away and Fulham home games when it was clear he'd lost the dressing room we might even have made top four.

Van Gaal has made some big mistakes since he's been here no doubt and I think he deserves to pay the price and be sacked, but as bad as the football is now it was utterly embarrassing to see the defending champions get hammered twice by City (aggregate of 7-1) and at home to Liverpool 3-0. I know we've lost at Arsenal 3-0 this season but when the heat was on last season we managed to get the results against City, Spurs and Liverpool to ensure we got over the line. Moyes would never have put together a run of results of similar importance, I am confident of that.

Awkward situation to be in. Will United take a gamble and hold on until the summer and move for Guardiola, (assuming he announces he's going to leave Bayern), or make a move now, sack LVG and get Mourinho in. By doing so, crushing any hope there is of landing Guardiola.

The plot thickens

If Guardiola has already decided he's leaving Bayern and hasn't agreed to join United then he has surely agreed to go somewhere else. I have a bad feeling United have missed the boat on Pep.

LVG went back to 4-3-3 today and the defence looked an absolute shambles. When he plays that system I really cannot understand why the 2 players either side of Carrick start so high up the pitch. It leaves the midfield wide open. He complained about an unbalanced squad when he joined and £250m later he still can't get the balance right.

I really think he should retire. I think the club would really like to support him but I don't think he has it in him to turn this around. He looks a broken man.

He mentions LVG because my opinion (and the opinion of the majority of United fans) at the time of his appointment was that he was still an attack minded coach that was going to revolutionise us.

I was dreaming of an Ajax style system that he would implement. Free flowing attacking football that entertained and got the job done. How wrong I was.

So I presume we're pretty much all agreed that he can feck off, right? Can't be arsed digging back through the thread, but anybody still want him to stay?

The pro LVG disappeared, so we don't really know what they think.

I can see where you're coming from and I partially agree. I just think we're not there yet and by there I mean a point where we are desperate to reinstall winning habit. I know it feels frustrating and downright unacceptable at the moment but if you look at the big picture, we've only gone two years without silverware. All the big clubs have gone through the same or longer from Barcelona, Bayern, Juventus. That is why I feel we still have some time to afford being picky and not go down the "that's it, sod all with any principles and let's just get a gun for hire to get us back up" road.

It's the desperation and the fact that most of our fans cannot accept that 2 or 3 years without success does not constitute falling down as a big club. Under Van Gaal we played some very dull football but it has never been underdog football. It's still unacceptable and frustrating but the worst crime for me if you have the money and status is to approach football like an inferior looking to stop your opponents rather than one looking to impose yourself and Mourinho is the king of that.

I wouldn't say I was pro LVG in recent weeks but I was saying recently that if we sacked him it could be a mistake. So an insight into my perspective is that I now think he needs to go immediately. We're not grinding out results and if anything we're in free fall so we either to for Mourinho or an interim if we can get Guardiola to commit, but not Giggs.

Moyes was over once he had lost the dressing room, you could see no way forward, no hint of improvement.

LVG was brought in to stabilise and get back into the top four (which he did although ultimately pointless considering how poor we were in europe!)

LVG has started to loose the dressing room, I cannot see where we go as far as progress under LVG even if he can keep us in the top four, it will be by a ball hair, progress has halted and stagnation has begun

If we don't get Moanrinhio in then sod Giggs for six months, get SAF out of the moth balls, I would lay a pound to a penny he would still win us the league with the current squad, without spending a penny on new players!

He's statistically doing the worst job he's ever done.

Just shows that the majority of his success was in the earliest part of his career.

Trophies won by LVG

1993 - 2000 - 15
2000 - 2015 - 4

He's only actually won two league titles in the last 15 years.

In fairness, I thought he was the only remotely qualified candidate at the time. Trouble is, he seems to be using this job as a relaxing swansong and in the process boring us into submission with mediocrity.

He basically got the job by default.

He wasn't even considered when Fergie retired. Literally no one even suggested him.

Moyes was there and sticking with him would have us in better position now. He wasn't only available, he had the job.

Majority was wrong on Moyes to leave. Majority was wrong on LVG to take over.

Majority was right never wanting Moyes in the first place.

Thats where all our troubles began. That one single decision set the wheels in motion for what has happened in the last two and a half years.

He may get two more games, but even if we win both I wonder what difference that could really make for our longer term outlook on his leadership. We need to salvage a Champions League place from this season and look to the future. To me it's clear that Van Gaal will not be part of that. Maybe moving on sooner would help.

The real risk though (which wasn't really explained in my post) is not such much going three years without a trophy but dropping out of the Champions League places for the second time in three years. That is not something those three clubs have experienced (ignoring Juve's relegation for off the pitch matters) or would ever expect to experience. I honestly think we will miss out on top 4 this season if we stick with Van Gaal.

After the game I was pretty confident he'd be gone tomorrow, but obviously I don't see that happening now. Pep says an announcement will be made tomorrow, if he/someone official announces he is going to City like expected then we have nothing stopping us making a quick run at Mourinho before the next game (why waste time?). If Pep just announces he's leaving I can only hope that the City thing is not confirmed and Woodward is desperately trying to turn his attention to us.
