Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

Get this done along with Herrera and suddenly we can relax a bit more for the rest of the summer, safe in the knowledge that Woodward is away doing something during the silent periods. Hopefully some of the more hysterical posters will calm down too.

Don't count on it. Ed could sign 8 world class players this week and he'd probably get criticised because the rest of the transfer window was too quiet.

I can't take it Woody!

The fee is okay, the wages is what concerns me. If it's more than £100k a week...
Again, this doesn't matter mate! The club know what they're doing and budget for this kind of thing. Plus we no longer have Rio, Vida etc on the books. And other players will be leaving too.

I'm not concerned with the fee even if I do think it is steep, my feeling is that he is going to be a fantastic long term investment for United.

I never doubted Woody. I bet everyone's so jealous of us. They're all Jewish kids on Christmas and Woody is our present!

It's just at 18, you don't really want to be slapping a lad on too much too soon. Plus, doesn't it make it a bit harder when signing more players - as in higher wage requests?

Who gives a flying feck what the fee is?! Are United raiding your bank account to buy the player? No! Have we spent far too many seasons watching City, Chelsea etc stock up on good players whilst we stood still? Yes! Do our match going fans deserve to see their ticket money spent on good players? Yes!

Sorry, had to get that off my chest. So fed up reading the same old crap. "Woodward is shit", "That fee is too much" etc. We need new players, we need good players, we have to pay for them!

I don't think it's unreasonable for fans to be concerned about how the club's resources are being spent. HAving said that, today is not the day for such negativity. We should all rejoice that we're actually signing players.

First summer transfer window on the caf and it is great!! All are deals most likely will be finalized before pre season, that's great!!

Completely agree with this. Throwing absurd money at an 18 year old isn't the best way to keep them hungry. I suppose a huge transfer fee doesn't necessarily have to mean huge wages though.

I feel happy for Woodward, he was getting an awful lot of unwarranted stick from folk on here as early as this morning. He's certainly proved them wrong today.

I imagine Fergie furious in his luxury home "GET THE PHONE CATH, I NEED TO HAVE A WORD WITH MR GLAZER"

Good thing England got home early so we could get him on board. £30m seems overpriced now but in 10 years may look a bargain.

If Shaw had Bales pace going forward I would be more excited. Dont get me wrong If things go well I think he could be a top player eventually but 30 mill and 100 k a week right now I dont see the value unless he has a long productive career but we cant guarantee that happens

So is the medical tonight or tomorrow, so many different outlets saying different things.

Anyway, time to find a stream for the half 8 interview with Herrera on MUTV  what a day!

Spellbinding news. What a day for football. The morale of Manchester United fans is at a rapturous high. This is wonderful, a bright future awaits. What a difference to the atmosphere of despondence and mediocrity from a summer spent chasing half the Everton team by an utterly inept manager, and a culmination in the most utterly humiliating disaster of the transfer deadline day.

Let us all dance and rejoice.

Who's gonna be next??
After an embarrassing start to the day things have really picked up nicely

£60 million on two average players.

Thoughts on this viewpoint?

this. To be honest, I have not seen enough of him to judge him properly yet. It is LOTS of pressure on a kid. To come to United for that kind of money. I would have preferred other options. Evra will teach him the ropes.

This is better than when Nani and Anderson signed out of nowhere with Hargreaves in like 2 days.......forgetting hindsight of course.

Yep, it does look like lavishing spending for a 19 year-old, but it's a long-term investment, so if we get ten years of excellent service from him you can't really argue against the fee. You have to pay premiums for potential now, that's just the way it is.

Neither are average. It's not my money who cares. Both are still young so it may look a good price in the future.

Unlike Fellaini, it sounds like Shaw will be buried amongst a whole bunch of big signings, so the pressure will be split out, rather than heaped on one man.

January was a big turning point tbh. Had that Swiss bird not come in and demanded big transfer fees for their players, Chelsea would have got Shaw even if United offered higher wages but as she wanted to strip the assets of the club to make her money back, United seemed to be prepared to spend whatever it would cost. Love how the papers said he 'snubbed' Chelsea…except the offer was never matched and therefore never accepted. United simply offered more and won.
