He’s been great but I feel we’re going through this every time a player has a good run. Many United fans claimed AWB was the best fb in the world, now suddenly we have both best fullbacks in the world. I think Shaw struggled defensively in first half today, and even if he might have been our best player it wasn’t really a world class performance.
To be fair, AWB has never been at Shaw's level. He's brilliant one on one, probably the best in the game. Sterling hasn't a clue of what to do against him 4/5 games running. But while Shaw doesn't have that sort of natural tackling quality (who does?), he's a far better footballer and overall fullback, and most felt throughoit. I think he's the best in the PL for sure right now.

When we're passing the ball around, particularly at the back, I get a sense of relief when Shaw receives it. He's just so good in possession - couple that with his strength and I'm 99% confident that he won't do anything to do put us in immediate danger when he gets the ball, more so than any other player in our team.

He's been an absolute revelation and I'm so happy for him after the pretty harsh treatment he faced under Mourinho.

Amazing lad. It was incredible to see Shaw scoring the goal that pretty much decided the game. 30 mil well spent!

I dont remember anyone saying AWB was best FB or RB in the world, I dont even remember people saying he was best in PL either. People said he was the best defensive FB in the league.

Shaw is the best FB/second best FB in the league this season, all the basic stats and also underlying stats shows that. He was always very good defensively and in the build up play, it was always in the final third where he struggled. This season his numbers are up there with the best (Only Robertson beats him in expected assists by a small margin but then Robertson played more mins)

Took his goal well and probably should of scored the earlier chance too.

He seems to finally be putting it all together in his 7th season here. Part of me think he's just grown up and matured as a person and that's largely what's caused his form. He's much fitter than he's been in years.

He's an incredible footballer.

He has the best 1st touch in the squad.

I'm very happy for him.

Can still lose a couple of pounds I think. Playing great and he will do what he did yesterday more and more. Please god let him avoid injury.

I have been a Shaw sceptic. The season he won the club's player of the year I thought it was a bit laughable. However, this season he's been up there for sure. The Telles transfer has really kicked him on. A lot of questions have been asked about his mentality. However, you see a United player when they're faced with competition. I just remember how Beckham responded to Poborsky coming in. Shaw hasn't quite reached those levels but he's shown pride and pushed on. Long may it continue.

I find it quite weird how the Shaw haters using Telles as a reason Shaw has done so well. The fact that Shaw is getting goals / assists has helped but we saw this Shaw last season as well, he was one of our best players since January when Telles wasn't at this club.

This season he has had a longer spell without injury so he is alot more consistent.

His crossing and final ball is a lot better this season than it ever has been before. Otherwise yes, I don't think there's that much difference between this season and how he's played for the previous few whenever he's actually gotten a proper run.

I agree with that, his final ball is alot better. It might be because he has learnt that he has to pick someone out rather than blindly crossing. He always used to make those runs into the box, we saw it under LVG too.

It is clear Jose shot his confidence and coupled with injuries, he has never really been able to get back to his best. This season with Telles coming in, he can be rested in some games allowing him to stay fitter for longer.

I absolutely love Shaw and felt disgusted by LvG and Mourinho marginalising him despite him playing well whenever he got the chance. ‘Fat’, ‘my brain his body’ etc.

Therefore, you’re off the mark here imo. Telles is definitely a reason Shaw is currently having his best period at the club. Competition from another capable player will always give motivation and a boost to the more skilful one. It’s just human nature and Shaw has reacted brilliantly to Telles signing, because we all thought Telles would displace him soon enough. Long may it continue. Another magnificent performance by Shaw yesterday. Perfect in defence, superbly progressive in attack.

When has Shaw ever blindly crossed? Never. He was ridiculed on here for never blindly crossing and instead looking to find players to feet. So that is nowhere near being true.

His crossing has changed this season because the target has changed. Cavani wants crosses in the air. When he doesn’t play Shaw goes back to his previous deliveries, he looks to spot Martial, Bruno etc to feet in the box as that’s what they prefer. He plays to the style of the forwards and has done for years. Blindly crossing is what Telles does, something Shaw has never done.

I think he's been brilliant lately, but he still lets his attacker get a cross in too often. Fred was very good yesterday at helping Shaw out, but still Shaw was apprehensive about his winger coming infield instead of letting Fred deal with that. That often results in the winger getting a head start on Shaw and thus having space to swing in a cross. I think that is an aspect of his game that he needs to improve. He lacks a little explosiveness on the first two or three yards, so he needs to compensate against some wingers.

I'm so pleased he's capped his wonderful form with a huge goal against a great team.

World class full back who could well end up being our player of the season again

Shaw always looked like he had this in him to be fair. As far back as his Southampton days, he always looked like he had the potential to be a monster of a full back, both in defense and going forward. The issue with him has always been that every time he gets into a good run of form, he ends up getting injured, which derails him and he takes a while to get back into it. Hopefully the chronic issues are behind him. Long may his quality shine through.

I love Shaw too and he has been good for us but for some reason alot of the fans didn't like him. His technique is one of the best at the club.

Ofcourse having Telles will make him play better but the notion that that is the only reason he has improved doesn't wash with me.

Defensively, he was never an issue, we just wanted a greater output offensively. Alot on here said he was never good enough and now he is the best LB in the PL.

I am not sure I can count the times Shaw tried to cross and it hits the first man for a corner.

Yeah I agree with that. Telles is the reason, but no chance is he the only reason. And yes, I never understood our fans wanting Shaw to be sold in the past. He was injury prone, but when he played, he was always pretty good.

To the bolded part... no.

I did the slob to first score 150/1.

He’s been brilliant this season. Should be England’s left back.

I remember the days people used to mock the fee of £30m. Not looking bad value now at all. Patience is a virtue.

Not me. I was very vocal on the fact I thought Telles was a level below Shaw.

Telles isn't a bad player but he's overrated going forward and not on Shaw's level defensively. Many told me I would see a huge difference in having an actual 'proper' attacking fullback on the pitch, I stood by my thoughts that Shaw would lock down the LB position as soon as we realised Telles wasn't on his level.

Shaw was criminally treated by Mourinho, properly disgraceful from Mourinho, so I'm glad he's making Mourinho look a right clueless cnut right now as he's the best fullback in the league. Mourinho showed his true ego and personality with Shaw. He likes to pick a player to bully at each of his clubs it seems.

That goal was coming with the way he's been playing. Delighted for him.

He is such a good ball carrier. It's weird because you think anyone can just run with the ball, but he just has this ability to eat up ground faster than you think he can and suddenly he's on the edge of the other team's box.

Yeah, he's an incredibly purposeful runner, nobody seems to get close to him once he gets going.

Credit to him that he's finally hitting the levels we hoped he would. Yesterday was a masterclass in how to play the fullback role. The most impressive thing for me is how it is taking less time to get back to speed after each injury, it's like something has finally clicked in his brain that he needs to keep his fitness up at all times. I wouldn't swap him for any other player right now.

I think Mourinho deserves some credit too as he was telling him what he needed to do but in the wrong way. It's a lot easier to take criticism on board when you are happy and playing with freedom, as he is now under Ole.

@RUCK4444 ‘s post actually proves my point. Many people, except you two clearly, expected Telles to come in and be this Robertson-lite attacking LB, especially considering his stats at Porto last season. I know I did, and if you go back to the Telles transfer thread, many people did too. I knew Shaw was good and very consistent, but I did believe that Telles would give us more attacking impetus. Luke is doing that now, better than any other LB in the world. Massive props to him.

And yeah, I’m a big sceptic of Ole, but if he was hired sooner, Shaw would have reached this level much faster as well. Mourinho’s treatment of him was a disgrace, and we all knew so at the time, just that we didn’t want to batter him too much due to the forlorn hope that he’d win us titles.
