Yes, who's better? He bosses the left side of the pitch game after game, no matter who we come up against. Even takes excellent set-pieces.
Andy Robertson.

Shaw is quality don’t get me wrong - but you can’t say Shaw is ‘easily’ the best left back in the league.

A performance per usual from Luke, magnificent. Seems to enjoy playing and plays with such confidence and calmness it almost luke unnerving, but he's just that good.

I have him at 7.4 rating thus far this year, which i feel is much more fair than the 5.8 the caf rates him at. We're top of the league and has probably been our best player so far.

How exactly, 1 assist in the league, constantly caught out of posistion, no assits last season.

He is a shocking player at both attacking and defending.

This isn't a windup either, He is a major weak link in the team.

You clearly do not understand football and the role of a defender.

Can you name me 1 game where Luke Shaw was consistently beaten by his man or looked shaky in defence?

Major weak link means he is a bad defender right?

People need to stop with agendas with players, instead you might feel better if you back them.

He should have had two assists from the last two matches. Against Burnley, it was a travesty that Maguire's goal did not stand. Against Liverpool, only a poor finish from Bruno robbed Shaw from another assist. He gets himself into good positions, and now his delivery seems improved.

Defensively, I think he awards his opponents too much space, which means that there are two many crosses into the box coming from his side. Not so against Liverpool, but generally speaking that is an issue with him.

To call him the weakest player in our team? a stretch don't you think?

Just a very talented footballer. Makes the game look so easy. Pace, power and technique so naturally.

Ole manages him perfectly, I don't really think it is about competition for his place. I think he knows he is number one but gets a rest when he needs it which is why he is staying fit. It's always been about fitness with Luke.

Best first touch in our squad since Berbatov IMO.

If you can watch him completely shutting down Salah (and Mane when he moved over) for the whole game and still come to that conclusion then I genuinely believe the only problem here is you having brain damage.

For me, he is probably are most composed footballer. Never shits himself when he receives the ball and almost always finds a team mate... probably our most consistent performer this season. He's got a touch of the Denis Irwin about him in the sense that you feel he will give you a 7 or 8 out of 10 every time he plays.

The evolution of Luke since the signing of Telles has been nothing short of sensational. He was a decent player before Telles, mind, but he's taken big steps this season.

And I still can't believe he's 1.85m tall! Surely he's paid off whoever keeps track of those things? He's 1.78, I don't care what anyone says.

A right back with similar ability on the ball would completely change the way we can play out from the back.

It wont mean shit all if they cant defend like Shaw first in my opinion.

That's why Ole bought Wan Bissaka.

A good defensive RB isnt exactly easy to find in the modern game when a team like Liverpool's main attack is not coming centrally but from out wide through inverted wingers & even attacking fullbacks that attack the fullbacks or their spaces predominantly.

Wan Bissaka will improve with an experienced RB like Trippier mentoring him and providing him some competition or rotation too like Telles did to Shaw.

I’ve been a critic of Shaw in the past but this is very impressive from him long may it continue.

Another top performance.

Goes to show, that competition for places is vital. He's improved because he knows Telles will take his place if he doesn't perform.

We need this across the squad.

Is Fernandes worried about his place because lingards on the benc, Rasford for James etc? We need better quality throughout the squad.

Shaw has been written off here and mocked etc. Credit to him - he's having a great season and easily one of our better players.

Definitely. But I don’t think we’re a club that should be settling for one or the other. The technical deficiencies in AWB’s are so big on the ball, that I’m sceptical we will get him to a point where he’s not an obvious weak link. It’s a big concern for £50 million.

Shaw for all his faults after the leg break, never had a technique problem. It seemed that concentration/motivation was holding him back, both LvG and Jose knew that, so it’s logical that competition would push him on.

I'm loving his resurgence as of late. He's on top form and it's really helping the team. How many assists has he had lately?

This could be the third season in a row that he gets more than 30 appearances (he should get to 40 or more like last season).
The biggest wory with him was always his fitness or picking up injuries.

If thats all behind him, thats a huge plus for us as hes got a great touch.

He was awesome yesterday, absolutely pocketed Salah and locked down that left side.

He’s a top player when in form, yesterday reminds people of how good he was before the leg break. He was our best player at that time.

For me it's easy to mistake Wan Bissaka looking like Lukaku's first touch because he is sometimes anxious at what he does, things like this & his positioning needs to improve his forward passing (which isnt bad, is quite accurate), but get in to the right forward areas so he can track the right channel back etc will be learn with the RB version of Telles. It makes sense why Ole wanted trippier over someone like Aaron's who is more pure direct young competition.

I dont think he will pass like Shaw but neither do I think we will find a LB that covers all our expectations whilst being able to pass like Shaw either.

Anyway wrong thread.

Great watching the development of Shaw.

For sure the best player for us yesterday. H e would have been my man of the match. He didn't give Liverpool a sniff down his side. And on the ball, I thought he looked like the player playing with the most impetus. Always looking to drive forward but not rushing things like most of our other players were guilty of yesterday.

He has been very good. The signature of Telles has done wonders for the team as well. We don't have to play him every game now.

Can he improve? Yes.

Far from being our weakest player in the team. I'd go so far as to say that he has consistently been the most improved player this season in the squad. I'd put him above awb atm. He's become one of our better and more important players. He's no weak link in the team, that much should be for sure.

I agree, just seems to be an agenda against certain players.

Luke Shaw has been inconsistent over the years because of his injury record. So far this season, Ole has managed him well which has come from signing Telles. We can afford to not play Shaw in games giving him a rest as well as competition.

Shaw like you said, this season has been sensational, its form carried over from last January I would say.

played very well. He has stepped up this season for sure. I have been one of his biggest critics but when he is doing well we should acknowledge. Kept Salah on a leash.

Love how they swapped Salah and Mane for a period to discover it wouldn't matter today who's on Shaw's side, Mane went back again on the left very quickly.

Hard to believe he's still only 25. Most FB's don't peak til 26 or 27 either. I guess he's been here so long and had so many issues that we were all starting to get really worried if we'd ever see the player we were promised, I think this season we have and he looks the whole package now (fat pun not intended). Let's hope he stays fit, if he does he'll be the best LB in the league soon enough - and he's not far off now anyway to be fair.

I agree with this and I have him on 6.6 so far this season but would say 7.4 is a bit high as he could be accused of poor positioning and jogging back etc earlier in the season but I do think the signing of Telles has really focused him and improved these weaknesses.

Having said that we are top of the league and I would expect a couple of players to be over 7.0 rating - this probably shows how much more improvement there is in the squad particularly the strikers and will be needed if we are to get above City & Liverpool.

I know Southgate has his favourites but surely he’ll earn a recall soon based on his great form this season?

Prior to that double leg break Shaw was a beast... Took a few years to get over that. But this season he's been tremendous, can't lie. That game yesterday was easily the best he's had for Utd.

Whats everyone smoking. He was poty what 2 years back? Last year he was one of the better players and this year as well. Hes been consistently good for years. I keep reading most improved player etc. What? His only problem is that he gets compared to Trent and Robertson. Apart from them who's better? Not many.

He isn't a fans favourite that's why. He has been one of our best players, he gets injured and takes a few games to get fit.

When he is in the team, I have not seen him have a defensive shocker in the last 3 years. Attacking, we can all say hes x,y,z but he does cross it in, we have 1 player in the box, its not good enough.
