hy does he look so unfit? He looks about 2 stone overweight. And he can't blame the injury last year because he looked really fit a few weeks ago.

Had an awful first half. Improved significantly with game time. Youngsters need to be protected and know that they can make mistakes and not be dropped every time they do. He's 21 - he'll make plenty of errors. My only worry is that Mourinho isn't prepared to accept that for the long term benefit.

He rarely puts up with attackers who have defensive frailties, its hard to see him accepting that a left back still has things to learn.

awful first half but a great recovery in the second!

Very solid second half suppose we need to give him a bit of time after the injury..

Glad to hear he improved. His confidence is probably low, as is the rest of the squad.

Shut the right side down on his own in the second half. Keep that up.

Hope his leg is OK, he looked to be holding near the break position when he got tripped up in our box.

Grew more confident into the game but a shit first half from him. He's going to be very valuable for the next 3 months with Bailly's injury and subsequent AFCON schedule making Blind the de facto starter at CB.

If jose's concerned about his defensive game, why not give him a run at left wing? It wouldnt hurt in a lesser game in future, and it could open a world of possibilities for us if it works (like Martial up front). Im not saying he'll be Bale, but his pace and crossing alone would cause problems.

First half his contest with Navas was astonishingly one-sided, but Shaw kept him quiet in the 2nd half. Bit fortunate on one occasion when a clear foul was missed by the officials but otherwise decent 2nd half.

His crossing is nothing special. Does he even have an assist for us?

He wasn't that good tonight. He made Navas look like bloody Giggs in his prime in the first half, he was better in the second though. If Navas wasn't complete shite City could of won that game in the first from the sheer space he was allowed alone.

did very well to recover from his poor first half, just needs to get full fitness and he will be great again for us

Guessing Jose told him at half time to stop giving Navas that 2 yard head start. Seemed to change it up in the second half anyway.
Yeah I think it was a obvious mistake he was making over and over again, good fitness test for him today

Had that Evra syndrome where he would struggle in the first half against a winger who could only go one direction (Lennon), but come out on tops in the second half.

I sit between the goal and left-hand corner flag in the Stretford End. Nothing was more apparent to me at a football match for a long time than the fact that we could have given City a real hiding had Shaw surged forward and overlapped Rashford. They were not equipped to handle it and looked vulnerable down that flank all night. Was convinced that Mourinho would spot this and encourage him at HT to attack more. Didn't quite happen but he was nearly found in the box early second half. That's the Shaw we want to see.

Evra struggled against Lennon because Evra could afford to give 99% of wingers a yard only to catch up with them subsequently showing them in one direction, but Lennon was at least as fast as Evra so that didn't work. Navas may be a bit average, but he's probably top ten fastest in the league; giving him two yards won't work, not even for Shaw who isn't electric on the first two or three yards anyhow, great top speed though.

Game of two halves with him and Navas. Navas won the first half and Shaw won the second.

People say Navas is an average player, and to be fair his final product is lacking, but his approach play is very good. Very hard to mark. Shaw did very well to stop his crosses in the second half.

And people gave Jose flack when he said Shaw was at fault at Watford? the guy kept letting Navas take a touch and drive at him at every opportunity in the first half.

Yup it's the same or should I say was the same when full backs faced Valencia. If you showed them the outside, they'll just need 1-2 strides to get enough space to beat you and/or put a cross in.

I think Shaw was wary of the inside threat as City like to play one-twos etc so he shielded Navas to go outside. And of course he's still lacking match fitness.

The give away with his weight is his chest area, he runs like he's got a pair of tits. Such a shame as when Van Gaal addressed the weight issue he was excellent.

Have to assume Mourinho told him what he was doing wrong at half time, which he will learn from for next time. All part of having a youngster in the lineup.

Observed this yesterday as well. His defensive posture was wrong. Showed Navas the inside instead of the outside. Probably didn't do his homework on Navas.

Very good second half from him. Will be a big boost for us when he is back to his devastating best.

Got to take into consideration that Rashford played really far forward and didn't give Shaw any support so he became really isolated on one on ones. Even really good fullbacks will get beaten in that situation, improved a lot in the second half which is good to see.

He is my favourite United player. Hopefully he can get his match sharpness back by playing in games regularly and regain his last season form. Please be patient with him, coming off a very had injury is always tough mentally and physically. Many players have never properly recovered after such injuries.
