Lukaku vs other top strikers in the league

The fact he's shit proves he's shit.

Missed out on Griezmann, settled for Lukaku. Justify it all you want mate but you, nor anyone else on this forum wanted him on the 1st July. You're fooling nobody. Reminds me of a very similar thread when Bodgit signed Ballotelli. I was facepalming at fellow fans justifying it.

You sound well bitter mate.

If he's so shit, why aren't you just happy for us to realize it next season? Instead, you're ranting on here to a level that I imagine will likely get you banned if you don't pull yourself together.

At the end of the day, your lot tried to spend 60m on Van Dijk, and got rejected by the player - meanwhile, we've got Rom for 75m...

Like I said, you sound bitter. Comically bitter.

Well, we have. We wanted to sign him and we haven't. The reasons don't really matter. For now, we have missed out on him. He may or may not come here next summer.

I feel it's still an important distinction to make though - especially if people are going to use our not signing Griezmann and imply some sort of lack of ambition or attraction on our part, simply because we signed Lukaku instead.

If you know what xG and xA is, here's an interesting table. The article is even better, but it's on Russian by some stat freak and I'm too lazy to even try to translate it.
Take not that many players ahead of Lukaku have significantly less minutes - this is what can be called a "substitution effect" - fresh players who were put on the pitch late in the game are more likely to score/assist against the tired opposition - see Giroud, for example.

It wasn't that long ago that people were doubting Kane's quality because he didn't seem to have any outstanding attributes. I'm pretty sure there were grudging comparisons to Muller, because his best quality appeared to be his footballing brain rather than anything you could gif. But now that he's managed to bang away a shit-tonne of goals for a fashionable team, he's rightly being lauded as a world class talent.

Lukaku has a very similar record, but actually does have several outstanding attributes. Now that he's at a fashionable team, his stock will go up in much the same way as Kane's. He doesn't even need to change or improve for that to happen. He could simply continue in the same vein as he's been doing at Everton. Hopefully, he won't, though. We create more chances than Everton, so I'd expect an even more prolific season. If that happens, the naysayers won't have anything to fall back on.

Numbers + playing for a big name team = reputation. Lukaku has only lacked on the latter. He's about to blow up as one of the biggest names in Europe, imo.

If you don't mind could you please do the stats on the number of times balls lost due to poor touch/pass, no of times tackled, pass percentage (forward/backward) etc, if possible. Cheers

I did only for 2016-17 season. Not sure whether passing % included the aerial duels they competed in.
