Lukaku to Chelsea? €100m bid + player rejected

Ultimately it feels like Chelsea are settling which is not a good thing. They are so volatile that it wouldn’t be a surprise if in the near future Tuchel is booted out. Then what, bring back Conte to get the best out of Lukaku? They should just pay more for Haaland or if he’s not available then wait another year.

Maybe Inter will pay us what they owe and we are able to get Saul or Camavinga in.
My thoughts exactly! But are you sure they have to pay us the pending balance right away or on the yearly terms they agreed with us? I don’t think they necessarily have to clear the balance right away….

I'm not sure of this. Maybe someone else could answer this question.

The thing about Lukaku for me is that it feels like you cant play another striker when he is at your club either and rotate - like he has to play every game or something; or he may lose his happiness at playing there with the rest of your team or lose his form.

Like as others have said - him being a consistent flat track bully against the smaller teams is nothing to laugh about because he will get you the points; but what do you do in matches vs United/Maguire/Varane or a match vs City/Diaz/Laporte/Stones?

Do you keep playing playing Lukaku or choose Havertz? Does Havertz and Werner play the CL matches more than Lukaku because personally I think Chelsea wouldn't have won the CL last year if they played Lukaku all throughout the tournament instead.

If Tuchel can bring him in and make him successfully and happily rotate with Havertz in particular; then I can see more where this is going.
It could end up like a Fabregas esque situation where his presence improves our record against the lesser teams but we lose our air of invincibility in the big one's.

If you'd seen him play for Inter this season gone, you wouldnt have such a sterotypical view of him. He was great for them. He's a top striker, who may just get Chelsea enough goals tonwin the PL.
"Sterotypical" - Jesus Wept.

And no, he wouldn't get Chelsea enough goals to win the PL. I feel pretty safe saying that. He's a very good player but he doesn't have the mentality to play for a top team in a serious league IMO.

Sancho looking like an absolute steal. Lukaku is a very good striker, and probably just below that elite bracket. However, it just doesn't seem like he can push into that elite bracket with the likes of Zlatan, Lewandowski, Suarez etc. I'm probably biased given how he didn't work out for us, but having only watched him in the big games now (well Inter and Belgium's big games), he just doesn't seem to be elite.

Don't Inter still owe us like £40m for the original deal?

He played for inter who are a top team in a serious league. If that doesnt count then you have a myopic view of football buddy.

Never was never will be elite. He has the numbers, flat track bully. But will never be a member of elite list strikers.

Honestly, I'd be relaxed about Lukaku going to Chelsea. If that means they don't bother with Haaland next season, all the better. I've seen Inter a fair few times over the last couple of seasons, and Lukaku looks exactly the same player he was for us. Great at burying chances but not remotely top tier at anything else.

One odd thing is that his work rate was always abysmal. I remember Everton fans warning us about that before he joined. I'm not sure whether that's changed at Inter. I didn't notice any change but maybe the stats would suggest otherwise. What's curious is that pressing from the front is definitely something Tuchel likes to do, in some games at least. Unless he's really pulled his finger out I can hardly imagine a worse striker to go for if you want him to press.

Conte beasts his players. Lukaku didnt get an easy ride from him. So he had to put in a shift they all did at inter. His workrate has improved as as his conditioning and stamina. Are there many more polarising players in the world than lukaku?

As I say, I didn't see much change, which is why I was interested in stats on the subject. His bodyshape changed for sure, but in terms of his approach to the game, he seemed much as I remember him.

Yeah Martinez is the one who does most of the dirty work.

Can we benifit from his sale to Chelsea, Did we include any future sign-on clauses when we sold him to Inter

I think Lukaku likes staying at Inter but Chelsea is doubling his net wages. It's hard to refuse that Offer while living in London.

Am i correct in thinking Inter have been knocked out the group stages of the CL 3 years in a row? And that's their best team. You're living in the 2000's.

This I saw somewhere that we only stand to make about £5m if Chelsea sign him. Not too sure about Inter's missing payments, I think they covered them in the end or it was renegotiated to be over 5 seasons instead of 2 etc

10m > 28m > 75m > 73m > 100m +

He will smash the record for total transfer fees spent on a player if this ends up going through...

It would just make you very versatile/flexible and give you plenty of options tbh. I wouldn't be suprised to see Werner play the majority of his games on the left or even in a few games you to go two up top.

It's not Werner minutes I would be worried about, I think Hudson Odoi, zycech and Abraham are far more likely to be worried in my opinion.

He's literally given a list of players who are not seeing game time and Chelsea are struggling to move on... Every club seems to have players that they'd be willing to move on but no bids are incoming not just us.
Let's wait and see till August.

As a utd fan I would like to see Chelsea sign Lukaku over Haaland or Kane, He is but obviously a very good finisher but too limited otherwise, when it gets tough Lukaku goes missing

If I were Chelsea I'd also worry about miles in the tank. Lukaku has played a huge amount of top level football for his age, that tends to catchup to a player.

Really don't see this happening, he seems pretty happy in Italy too.

They won scudetto last season. They have won the CL more recently than us.

Nothing personal but i hate the myopic view that Utd and the PL is more prestigious than other clubs and top leagues in europe.

Mendy
Kounde-Silva-Rudiger
James-Kante-Jorginho-Chilwell
Havertz
Lukaku--Werner
I wonder if this is the plan by going for 2 left footed tank of strikers this summer.

If I remember right it was a bulky striker that really helped unlock Werner even in the Bundesliga.

He can rotate Mount, Pulisic, Havertz depending on how creative, work rate etc things he wants in a match.

Easy to forget he scored 27 goals in his first season for us and we got over 80 points. I think the current Chelsea team is better than that United team and Lukaku will be a better player now, especially having been successful in Italy. So his goal contributions could really improve them.

Nevertheless, there are attributes to his game that will always hold him back so I’d be content that one of our rivals signs him and not another top striker. Also has the potential to end in tears.

He obviously improves them but I'd love it if they signed him. The premier league is the place to be right now, let Kane go to City and then we have an (almost) clear path to Haaland. Still have to compete with Liverpool in England which would always be a possibility for Klopp to change systems. Raiola might push him to go to England seeing the direction each league is in.

On Lukaku, he's obviously a good player but he will still suck in big games with not much space, that hasn't changed in Italy. He's also 28 now with tons of miles on those legs. I don't look at his body type and think he'll last well into his 30's.

Not a player I'm really worried if they buy him but I'm sure he'll score against us...

No. The only way they could convince inter to sell is by offering Haaland or some such

Chelsea need to put pressure on Lukaku to push the deal. If Lukaku doesn't push with inter, they can offer whatever they want, inter will reject everything
We will see. Inter badly need the money. But they also have some pride. Give them 1 or 2 players they really need and 100m and unlike Dortmund they WILL take the deal

According to the Italians you had a bid rejected last Thursday, realised Dortmund definitely aren't selling and moved on. It happens.

We did the same with Sancho and expected them to budge, they're a very stubborn club.

I know it's no more than silly pedantry from my side at this point but Romano says here that Chelsea never placed a bid for Haaland. The pursuit never moved beyond just chatting to his camp. There could be several reasons why an official bid never came, either the Haaland camp made it clear they weren't interested in Chelsea or they were but Chelsea genuinely did balk at the overall cost of the transfer.

There's a difference between an "official bid" and putting in an offer it seems.

Just like with United, we obviously negotiated and threw around different offers until 1 was "accepted" and then we put in an official bid.

I'd imagine the official part comes with sending over actual contracts to be signed etc.

Clearly though Chelsea have been sending offers in the background, that didn't come out of nowhere. Dortmund just haven't accepted the lower offer.

They don't badly need the money actually. They sold Hakimi for that

this only happens if Lukaku pushes for the move. Or Chelsea offer the kind of money they weren't prepared to offer for Halaand
