Luis Suarez could become Kenny Dalglish’s first signing since his return to the club with Liverpool set to step up their bid for the Ajax striker.
It is understood the Merseyside club held a transfer meeting on Sunday night following their 2-2 draw with rivals Everton and talks are ongoing to seal the Uruguay international's signature.
Suarez is keen to forge an attacking partnership with Fernando Torres at Anfield and Liverpool submitted an enquiry to the Amsterdam club on Saturday, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

One potential stumbling block could be the optimistic fee Ajax are demanding to sell their captain with the Dutch outfit looking to raise around £28million from his exit.
A bid of around £15million could be enough needed to reach a compromise, however.
Suarez, who was linked with a move to Tottenham last summer, is contracted to Ajax until 2013.
But Suarez, who was suspended by the Dutch league for seven games in November after biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal, has been looking to quit the club since manager Martin Jol left last December.
New Ajax boss Frank De Boer revealed that he has lined-up a replacement, admitting Suarez is keen to move on to a bigger club during the January transfer window.

Think he would be a good signing for Liverpool, although does that mean they would revert back to 4-4-2 or will he play on the left side.

So Ajax want 28m but yet the source states 15m will be enough. Ridiculous journalism. I highly doubt he goes for less than 20m which probably puts Liverpool out.

Think Babel will be the makeweight in any deal

Decent striker but not a world beater by any stretch of the imgination.

Also, this smells slightly like a signing that will eventually replace Torres so that part about forging a partnership with him is likely to be shortlived in my opinion

So Liverpool aren't skint after all?

10m for Downing and now another 15m for this cheating twat?

Why would they be skint, they just had a takeover.

Only a joke of a club will pay over £20 million for Suarez. He's not even doing that great at Ajax this season. Lost the captaincy, not Ajax's top scorer, in fact he isnt in the top 10 goalscorers in Holland this season. He's got 7, which is level with the likes of Afellay

;)

Being serious though, good signing.

Id be interested to see how he did in the Premier League.

I laughed anyway.

Not sure about Suarez or whether we actually need him. That said, we need more firepower but out wide for me.

We'll see I guess.

I think he'd cut it here. If Liverpool can start creating more, he'll finish if Torres doesn't. Would be a top signing, I'd probably still take him at United even though he's a bit of a cnut.

Not sure why you'd think that. Kenny seems to like 4-4-2 with Kuyt and Torres.

Decent player and better than what they've got. Porobably suited to the PL as well.

I think you definitely need something extra up top, for a while now you've been over reliant on Torres and when he's out of form it buggers you right up.

Suarez would be a good signing for you - however I'm pretty sure darren bent is on your radar.

 Do you even know why?

He bit off more than he could chew. So he's chewing the fat while deciding where he wants to cut his teeth in the future.

Am I dropping enough hints yet?

He'd do well in the Prem, would probably be a good signing for them for a change.

I know why he was suspended, but he lost the captaincy after the suspension. He chose to stand down because clearly the pressures of being the captain of Ajax were getting to him. He hasnt been performing as he had in previous seasons and in the champions league matches I've watched him in, he's trying to do it all himself

NEver heard of him. Quick look at his stats suggests hes been awesome for PSV.

Tore Ajax apart last season and was their most important player imo for the last two seasons. Excellent dead ball specialist, good cross on him.

Plays as a left winger, I think Arse were in for him at some point.

er no he's not

I suppose it's subjective (and this season hasn't been his greatest for obvious reasons) but in my opinion his performances and ridiculous scoring record over the last three years merit my praise. The two lads you mentioned are good prospects though, Dzsudzsák will be sold for a big price-tag if he continues to develop, especially as good left-wingers are fairly hard to come by.

I agree it subjective, but to me Dzsudzsák looks like a better prospect, or at least at the same price tag at the moment.

The thing with Suarez is that he scores crazy amount of goals and he's a prolific goal scorer, but he certainly is no Ruud and having in mind Kezman, Alves, Kuyt, Huntelaar, all of whom scored regularly 20 or even 30+ goals a season doesn't make that record very convincing.

I don't think Suarez has that something extra in his game that is worth more than 10m-15m(at best) pounds.

He was on the verge of a move to Shakhtar but turned them down, a while ago he was linked with Europe's top sides including us and Barcelona, just see what's left.

Heard from a twitter somewhere that the deal will be done soon, apparently he will be leaving Holland soon with Babel heading the other way.

Maybe fake, who knows ?

Was a great prospect, hyped and had a decent world cup, but after we have Hernandez for me there is no need in Suarez right now.

He'd be a very good signing for them in all fairness. Why the hell would he want to go there though? I'd have thought Spurs would be interested, and they lack a top striker so he'd be perfect for them.

[1110 GMT] Ryan Babel is keen on a loan move back to Ajax - and believes the deal could form part of Luis Suarez's potential transfer to Liverpool. "The transfer of Suarez to Liverpool opens the door for me to go to Ajax," he said.

Decent player, but wouldnt his style be very similar to that of Torres? I would have thought there woul have been other areas of the pitch needing improvment before signing another striker

I wouldn't expect Torres to still be there in the summer.

Good point but the more I think about it, the less certain I am. Where would he realistically go? He will never join Real being the royal lad he is, Barcelona do not need him so a move to Spain is out of question unless Atletico sell Aguero for a hefty price and bring him back. In Italy Milan and Inter will be sniffing around definitely but not too sure if either can afford him, and both already have top class strikers on their books so it won't be a priority. I doubt he will move within England, the only club who could afford him are City and will he really want to go there?

Suarez - Torres up front, and Maxi - Meireles - Gerrard - Kuyt on the midifeld... That is a improvement, but I really think they need to bolster their midfield more than their strikers.

But in January you have to take the ones you get. Ajax dont seem strangers to the idea of getting rid of Suarez anymore - for £18m he can really turn out a great deal if he manages to work in England.
