Luis Diaz

No matter who they sign, they won’t be as good as Salah and Mane. Downgrade. Slippery slope.

Disagree here, he has a lot of potential to be “Mane” level. Klopp’s tactics aren’t easy to adaptable, it requires a lot of times to understand about new formation and different tactical perspectives. Van Dijk’ve said before that he needs 6 months to adapin Klopp‘s tactics.

From I’ve seen Diaz in 2 games perspectively, he seemed to impress me in term of techniques, decision making, intelligence and linking up with teammates. His problem is about his frame which is too thin in EPL, he needs to bulk some muscles up for helping him against a physical style of this league. Talking about tactics, he makes some mistakes in term of position to get the ball from teammates and he should do some defensive covering more and more, which is pretty understandable to adapt in term of tactics but I see no problem since Porto and Liverpool share some similarities in term of tactics.

Mane for me is/was better in term of hunger for goals, defensive covering, work rate ,physical and heading abilities but his forms especially dribbling abilities and shooting accuracy have caused results a lot of times. Diaz is a different player from Mane both attitude and playing styles. Diaz seems to be a better technician, baller and better at some decision making too.
Diaz will develop himself to be a better player for sure and I think he will reach Mane’s level in the future for sure.

On Salah I think it’s different story.

Diaz’s playing style
Diaz is usually deployed on the left-hand side for both Porto and Colombia despite being a right-footed player – an excellent example of the modern trend for inverted wingers.

He likes to stay wide and keep his width, rather than spend the entire game attempting to drift inside. This allows Diaz to cut inside onto his favoured right foot but also creates room for overlapping fullbacks to get around him.

Blessed with excellent ball control and dribbling skills, Diaz is particularly adept at beating his opponent and would be a player that’d excite the Anfield crowd. The Colombian loves cutting onto his right foot and this unpredictability has flummoxed many defenders at both club and international levels.

He’s started to add goals to his game this season and that, in combination with Diaz’s aforementioned attributes, has made him one of the most exciting attackers in European football.

.
– “The rate at which Luis Diaz is churning out otherworldly performances coupled with his ability to score screamers like this on a consistent basis is genuinely frightening. Only a matter of time before somebody pays an astronomical fee for him.” said Marino Peixoto, a Portuguese football enthusiast.

– “Lucho can shoot from distance, he’s comfortable with his two feet, he can dribble, he can open up defences, he can score, ” John ‘Pocillo’ Diaz said in 2021. “What can’t he do? But, believe it or not, he’s yet to reach his ceiling.”

– “A player like Lucho, with the qualities he has, can play for any team. It’s not easy to find players like him,” former Colombia head coach Arturo Reyes said.

“There are things similar to [Jadon] Sancho. Both have fun on the field, they don’t feel pressure and they play the same way in any side.”

With Diaz coming in, the only movement I can possibly see is Bobby going.

Why would Mane go? Where’s he going to go where he’s challenging for titles and champions leagues as competitively as we are right now with arguably one of the most desirable managers to play for.

unless it was of course a move closer to home? Too a Warner country, in which case Real Madrid would make sense I giess

It must be bonuses then because a quick search online shows that United are paying much higher salaries to their squad than Liverpool are. Ronaldo earns more than double per week than the highest earner at Liverpool.

I can understand a bit more why FSG have been so reluctant about Salah’s contract.
Go by official Records published by clubs of overall wages rather than iffy online speculations because it actually shows the clearer picture than some Journalists peddling narrative which isn't backed by actual official figures .

Origi?

Mane/Diaz, Jota/Firmino, Salah/Minamito

Mane has been playing to a lower standard for some time compared to how he did few years ago.

The way our salaries are constructed the base pay that gets reported is nearly meaningless as an indicator of what we actually pay our players.

The bottom line is that we pay in roughly the same echelon as other top clubs.

Mane was very poor last season. He's not back to his best but I'd say he's still been a really good player this season. Still scored more than any United player bar Ronaldo. Hope he stays. Still has a lot to offer.

Firmino is done though. Whatever he's trying to do his body isn't doing.

I don’t get this Firmino is done talk

He’s a great squad option now imo rather than first team starter

he’s still got good number when it comes to goals

combining goals and assists he contributed too 16 league goals last season

17 the season before last

18 the one before that

this season in 14 league apps he’s contributed too 7 goals, so he’s still adding the same goal contribution per game ratio…..of course he’s not what he was 4-5 seasons ago but he’s still imo a very good player to have on the bench or in rotation.

Origi as mentioned by someone above is probably a good shout for being moved on with Diaz coming in

you’ve got too look at your completions options and think we need to be able to at the very least closely compete Where we can

Mane/Diaz Jota/Firmino Salah/Minamino

looks pretty fantastic if you ask me and better than any forward attacking options of City

Can see two of them not being their next season.

Foreign players don’t think the PL is the holly grail. This will be Mane last big contract. I just can’t see Liverpool offering him a 5 year deal on 300k a week. That’s what he will want if Salah signs his for 400k a week.

Who’s paying him him £300k though?

Barca can’t

Can Madrid?

I’d be flabbergasted if he went too PSG

Other EPL sides are out the question in City and Chelsea, so where’s he going in this hyperthetical £300k a week scenario?
He’s a great player, but he’s not back to his best although he is having a good season, he’s also 30 years of age come the summer.

I think he’s worth every penny we are paying him at the moment, but is he worth and will someone want to pay 300 K for a 30-year-old not at his best Mane

I can’t see him getting better money than what he is currently on at Liverpool anywhere, or at least not substantially better like an extra 100K a week

That's .... not really especial though.
Mata has done much more impressive things in the past and no one made video's about it.
It's a great piece of skill, don't be so joyless.

And if Mata has done better, I am convinced there's video of that too.

It was an inefficient use of time and space and he nearly fell over. Probably trying to mimic a Liverpool legend

Sorry I can be vacuum of joy at times
Yeah it was definitely nice , he's been a good signing for you lot.

Could be special this one.

I mean the touch is nice enough, but more of a gimmick than anything else. What was much more impressive was him beating his man right after that - should have been included in the clip.

It's the most over rated skill in world football. Even your nan could do it. It's simply jumping in the air and putting your heel behind your leg  not exactly tricky.

It's the equivalent of doing step overs in open space. Might look fancy but purely for the cameras.

I think it also perks the crowd up (You could hear the excitement in the stadium every time he got the ball) which I think helps to drive the team forward.

I'm one of the first to bash players for being showponies but I think Diaz manages to incorporate some trickery into his game without compromising his overall game.

He blew me away at last summers Copa America and if the first couple of months of his time at Liverpool are anything to go by he is going to be regarded as one of the top forwards in Europe over the next 18 months.

Annoying that him and Jota have just fit right in, not only with output but effort too.
This guy is a great purchase. Fits right in and surely will only get better.

Don't get me wrong he's a great player, but I think people fawning over a simple side foot control is a little over the top.

If he'd pulled off an elastico or a rainbow flick or something then by all means, fawn away.

It's like our SAF days. Even cleverley looked like a talented player back then. All about having a right manager.

He looks class to be fair. Have seen a bunch of posts on Reddit suggesting he is next in the line for the Balon D'Or in coming seasons.

It’s a great touch and the ones that say any different are just jealous  In a derby game too. Settled in like a duck does to water. Looking like another gem for Klopp.

I also definitely think about Diaz when i wonder about futures Ballon D'Or. It used to be Haaland and Mbappe but now it's him ! I'm just not fully certain he will get more than 4.

Derby game or not, was he under pressure ? The answer is no. The piece of skill is ridiculously easy when you are open. It's a good touch but ultimately not different than bringing it down normally. Not finding this impressive doesn't mean one is jealous as the skill is fairly simple

Circumstances is what makes things different, if he had done the same, with a player pulling his shirt then yeah it'd be impressive as hell.

Reddit can predict the future?

No, and it's generally filled with 15 year old outspoken gowls - but it shows the reputation he is quite fairly getting with his performances. They won't miss Mane/Salah nearly as much now when one of them fecks off.

Tell me something, if it’s ridiculously easy and simple!! how come we don’t see it all the time In the league? Now I’m not saying it’s not happened before but I can’t remember seeing it. They may be are fiercest rivals in football and we don’t like giving them credit but for me that’s just wearing rose tinted glasses.

Fact is he’s been there 5 mins and doing exactly what Bruno did when he first came to our club.

You don't see it often because it's pointless. It really is that simple. There are absolutely no footballing benefits from it except from winding up your opponent.
Neymar does the same thing too, it is still as pointless, no matter where it's done. Fact is it's only done when the player has acres of space, otherwise no one attempts it
