Lucas Silva

Seen someone who watches a fair bit of Brazilian football and does scouting say they think he's got loads of potential but they don't think he's ready yet. Not Tim Vickery.

 I was just about to say Tim Vickery said that.

10mil? Do it Edward Woodward he can join the squad in January if a permit can't be completed on time.
Buy him now and loan him back for the rest of their season, I say.

Of course, that doesn't really help us now... *starts praying again for Carrick.

These are the comments:

I don't think he is ready to play for Man Utd's first team but he is fairly promising, is a defensive midfielder in theory but more box to box in practice, defends well, can pass well, good long shots.

He is only 21 and is already a starter at Cruzeiro, the best team in Brazil nowadays (won the league last year and top the league this year).

I hope our interest in this lad was real and we go back for him in January, we'll need more than one #6 under LvG and Carrick is coming up to 34.

Jesus Christ this guy is good. Why is it that a club like Porto will sign him only to be sold for double the amount to a top European club?

Work permit rules no? Isn't it a letter easier for Portuguese clubs to sign these players because of them compared to English clubs? Plus, I bet there's some third party crap already involved with him and they're banned in the Premier League.

I don't know about the rest of Europe though, but I'm guessing Spain and Germany are already stacked with the talents they produce themselves and need game time.

Why do they mention us specifically? We have a good midfield now, he'd have suited teams like Arsenal just as much

He is supposed to be a deep lying midfielder ? So, we don't need him.

Just because we've signed a few players that have improved us (albeit, considerably when they're all fit and in the team) doesn't mean we should stop looking for move improvements and reinforcements does it?

Isn't he actually a defensive midfielder?

Even if we bought him, we'd have to either send him on loan or make him warm the bench. Not that I mind really but that's how it is.

But he is not the kind of player we need, we need a box to box or a true enforcer.

I don't know this guy but he has been described as an elegant defensive midfielder, we don't need a third Blind/Carrick.

It means we shouldnt be linked with every midfielder under the sun anymore

As I said he'd be just as suited to signing for someone like Arsenal as much as us. So why is Mr. Hernandez writing that we should have gone for him and not other teams like that?

As said already we don't need him atm, he is a good backup for Kroos though, but he is very similar to Blind and Carrick.

I'm not going to start slating Carrick because I have always rated him and I still do. I think after the last games he has played it is quite apparent what he brings the team. I would say that at the start of next season he will be 34 and there is that question mark hanging over his head. So given this and the fact that if we look back 6 months on here everyone was crying out for CM's (after a significant period of failing to address the obvious dirth of quality in the middle) I don't think it would be bad to have 2 players vying for the deep lying CM position in the future. In fact I think this would be quite sensible. It's all down to transfer strategy for me. Are we going to follow the Real Madrid model, are we going to go with the SAF model of buying 'potential' or are we going to go for a mixture of the two? I think it would be sensible given the rebuilding period to ensure (by buying if necessary) one World class option in each position and to invest in potential or promote youth to challenge them. It is also important to remember that we are concentrating on being in the Champs league next year so would need a larger squad with more quality in it.

We should always have 2 capable players for each position. I'm thinking that we can get atleast 1 more year out of Carrick, with him and Blind for the CDM position we are well covered. But ofc the time will come soon when we need a replacement and then we should get it right Away and not neglect it.

He shines here because he is one of the few DMs who can pass well and has long range, but Europe is already full of these guys.

Carrick's not going to be around forever, 15m euros is nothing for a potentially world class player. Think it will be silly not to buy him.
Get him in the window, let him settle in and than in summer window decide if to loan him out for a year.

Real Madrid continue to treat their players like shit, yet players keep wanting to join them. :wenger:

Lucas Silva will go there, only to be fringe player for two years, then he'll be off.

We should take the leftovers, except Casemiro, he is shit.

I hope that this lucas silva love watching football.

Reporting that Arsenal has 'won the race' to sign this kid. Not that I believe it for a second, especially if Real are truly keen on signing him.

What's his style of play? One of the articles claimed he was the 'new Kaka,' which seems preposterous if he's a DM like claimed in here....?

Sounds to me like he's a ball playing defensive midfielder with great long range passing. Seems to be a bit 'in' at the moment. Carvalho, Silva, Blind etc...

I did read that Real are moving towards Christoph Kramer instead of Lucas.

Carrick, Alonso, Seedorf, Guardiola, Rijkaard... pretty sure that's a type of player which has always been 'in'.

It's the natural evolution of the game.

Why just have a DM that can just defend, when you can have one that can set up play from deep, or surge forward when there's an opening?
