Lucas Moura.

Feck sake. Thought there was. Wes when I saw this thread bumped.

We sold him for less than we paid, only 1 year later, arguably with only 6 months of poor form. He was never worth as much as what we paid, but it was still poor business.

Anyhow my initial comment was tongue in cheek - but I firmly think that we were ripped off for Di Maria.

This nonsense again  we sold a 27-year old underperforming player for nearly £50m, 80% of the fee we paid and overpaid to Real Madrid a year before. Cannot believe that people genuinely feel that him being a year older and playing terribly should not affect his price at all. It's probably the same people who wanted us to buy Falcao for £40m because he was worth that much two years earlier.

Just a thought, Mahrez is only 5/6 months older than him and essentially is premier league proven.

Do most people think Mahrez is just playing out of his depths or would Lucas genuinely be the better player to have?
I think Mahrez can reproduce this level for the coming few years, the things he does this season look so effortless.

The lift this boy would give us. If is pace and trickery LVG is looking for, this guy has it in spades. £22m is more than decent price in this climate.

Is this the Lucas that we were gutted not to sign a few years ago (the winger)? Or the central midfield one that isn't the crap Liverpool one?

We have room for the two of them. I don't know if they are what we need but we need more than one winger at this stage.

He's 23!?? Is that a "Brazilian 23"?

From Walcott to Diego Costa in 2 years.

Someone like him could be exactly what we need in the RW position and with adm there he is surplus to requirements at psg.

We need pace and this guy suits that desire. Pace on both wings, a midfield capable of playing that killer pass and we are good to go. Would love to see him run through the sound barrier at Old Trafford.

He's obviously an improvement to the shit we have on the wings at this time, but we should looks somewhere else. I don't think he has improved much since he moved to PSG 3(?) years ago, he's basically one of those flashy brainless players that look really good in highlights. Not to mention that he already had the chance to join and decided no to.

Lucas Moura is next level mate. When he's playing well, it's almost impossible to mark him. Not only is he superfast with incredible acceleration (might just be the fastest player in Europe), everything else he does (trademark feints, shimmies) is at hyper-speed too. Don't think any player in our squad compares to him, not only in terms of pace, but consistently gliding past the opponents, and just overall technical skill and creativity from wider areas. He's just so so direct, and that's an element we're missing, even with the young ones. You give him one inch, and he'll be gone.

Couple of short videos to show what he can do when he's tuned in:

Champions League debut vs Valencia:

Goal vs Marseille. Defending isn't that great here in fairness, but look at the ease with which he blazes past their entire spine:

Maybe we can help him realize his full potential, and channel all that pace and trickery and natural talent.

He's extremely speedy. How the hell did he reach that top speed he had for a couple of yards? I got the feeling he was slightly pushed???

What about Douglas Costa?? Have you seen his speed? I really wonder who's the speediest of the two.

Costa has insane acceleration but I think Moura has a higher top speed.

It's annoying how we never seem to be able to get a player in return when we sell of one of our best players. At PSG we had a good opportunity to get either Marquinhos or Moura. When Real signed Ronaldo they were offloading Robben and Sneijder, we didn't seem to be to keen on either of them at the time, having signed Obertan and Valencia.

I think those are different.

With Di Maria, I think there was probably pressure from both sides for him to go and we were probably ecstatic to get that much cash for and be able to just forward half of it over to PSV and replace him (obviously that's been a bit slower a process than we would like).

With Ronaldo, they wanted him desperately and unless we had a deal with Ronaldo in writing, we were idiots not to get Robben or Sneijder. Though we could have ended up with Huntelaar or Van Der Vaart so maybe dodged a bullet.

Would love this guy as he's a good upgrade to Mata but he's not top drawer and very inconsistent and certainly not enough on his own. Think signing him and Mane would be good business though and it is a step in the right direction!

It's the direction we will have to take. Barring Griezmann no top attackers are available so you have to go for those that you think are not far off from making that step up, or have the ability to, in different conditions.

unless PSG dont have use for him , they wont sell.

That's been how they've operated in the last few years.
Surely, the players will also matters. A player that was billed for big things can't go on forever being a squad player.

Marquinhos and T.Silva did seem like they wanted to leave, and Silva especially flirted with Barca quite a lot that particular summer, yet PSG didnt flinch.

Rabiot for example was another 1 getting little game time but they still didnt sell. (although he compounded the issue by signing a new contract, although his game time hasnt increased after that). PSG are notoriously difficult, even worse than Bayern imo.
