Lucas Biglia

You would imagine that this is bullshit, given it is clear as day to us armchair experts that we need offensive minded midfield players if anything, not more defensive players. That said, who knows with our mad scientist in charge. The aim of the game is not to score goals these days at Old Trafford.

If we bring in another DM and try and fit him into this team, he can't be too far from banners flying above OT.

I think it's complete bullshit this. Why the hell we need another experienced CM/DM? (Come to think of it never though I'd say that in the last 5 years, how things change).

We already signed 2 and we have 3-4 better than him in the pecking order. It's a complete no no.

LvG said he's looking to only buy two players, didn't he? One would be Pedro and the other would be a De Gea replacement.

We have Carrick, Blind, Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger who can all play DM. What the hell do we need this guy for?

LvG wants to get a load of Argies in, so he can play soldiers. His cunning plan is for a Falklands War re-enactment for his next Birthday.

He wanted to sign James McLean last summer, so he could re-enact "The Troubles" for his last Birthday too.

He's addicted to the War Channel apparantly..

Football fans ey.
They really are fickle.

I'm not saying he should be sacked, I'm saying he's probably not a million miles away from fans voicing discontent.

I also don't think it's necessarily fair to call fans unhappy with Van Gaal 'fickle' anyway. 'Fickle' would have been turning on Fergie after minimal dissatisfaction. Van Gaal probably hasn't won most of these fans over yet anyway, so if anything, many are probably being patient, and have been for a year now. If at any stage this season a fan decides he has seen enough, it isn't because, despite us being amazing for 18 months, we've had a month of shitness. It will be more to do with him (or her) having had enough of us being largely shit for 18 months.

I edite my post.
All good.

Dont think we would see those banners if we buy Biglia. If we would see them it would be madness. Nor do I think aim is not to score goals at OT.

All that being said we dont need Biglia.

I don't think it will be as a result of buying Biglia, and I was being tongue in cheek anyway ( about the banner, not so much about our aim not being to score goals).

I don't think that it is an unfair argument though that our aim is not to score goals. Our primary objective is to not concede goals. If the players have a 10 minute spell of seemingly prioritising the scoring of goals over the non-conceding of goals, it is usually followed by some sort of managerial change to restore normaility.

the day we have a front three as good as Neymar, Messi and Suarez then LVG can play as many DM's he wants. Right now Uniteds front three is severely under firing and need the goals and creativity from midfield. Herrera and Fellaini were two midfielders that shined in the last 6 months of the seasons when things started to finally click for LVG.

worrying times ahead

We probably said, "Who the hell is he? " That would likely count as interest in some peoples book.
"It is understood that Manchester United made an initial enquiry about Lazio defensive midfielder Lucas Biglia. Reliable sources have confirmed interest also coming from Real Madrid, AS Monaco..."

These guys are not average. I mean seriously...do you think we could have a team with world class talent in every position? Romero is a backup keeper FFS, probably the most experienced one already in the PL being the most capped Argentina keeper and having just played in the world cup final and the Copa America. Blind is an intelligent player who can cover more than one position, he's any manager's dream. Rojo may not be an elite player but he's a great athlete and more than competent enough to do a job here. This isn't FM

Did you even read what i wrote? I said we dont need more, and my description was average to decent, or are they very good players for you? Maybe i exxagerated bit, but most of them should/will be squad players anyway in 2 years gime. We dont need more, especially not In that department anyway. We have 3 or 4 players who can easily play the Biglia position. And if both Carrick and Schweini get injured, he wouldnt be a replacement anyway, he is a totally different player to them.

There are plenty of players of Biglia's quality around, for that price we would be fools to go for him.

Blind is not a centre back and due to his physical limitations, he never will be. Completely different from someone like Mascherano moving back there, who can handle himself.
Blind should play DM, possibly LB in a crisis, or not at all............

Lets put it this way, give me a 1:0 win over 3-4 loss every day.

I agree, on a one-off occasion. I'd love to win a CL final 1:0. But as I've just posted in a different thread, there is no such formula as 'playing poorly and winning', despite how common a cliché it is.

Put simply, we will drop a lot of points if we continue to play as we did on Saturday. I think the caf would feel more confident in our prospects if we had played brilliantly on Saturday, but were very unfortunate not to win. Maybe not 3-4, as that would perhaps highlight defensive frailty, but I'd honestly feel better about the season ahead if we had lost 0-1, but had hit the post three times and caused Vorm to make a number of saves. Luck runs out, fairly quickly in this league too.

All true. But it's just the 1st game. Give it time. If it will be like that in a month or 2 then we can be and should be concerned.

Right. Got barely any strikers and wingers and we're going to sign another midfielder. Seems legit.

Clearly we're going to do away with having any traditional centre backs and have some kind of revolving square of DMs who fill in the two CB and 2 DM positions. Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger are probably already in the process of being converted to join Carrick and Blind as hybrid CM/DM type machines. Herrera, and maybe even Rooney will be sucked into the DM vortex, presently, until every single one of our players plays like an exact clone of each other. You can even kind of see why LVG keeps pissing his goalkeepers off, left, right and centre. This is LVGs philiosophy. It's very Dutch, very 'Total', when you think about it (total bollocks, actually)

I think that's fair. I think the alarm is because we saw this for most of last season too, and at that time, we felt it would be different this year. From pre-season to the Spurs game, I think the concern is that more of the same from last season will occur, as opposed to panicking of an individual game. I think there is also a concern that the way we are playing is largely due to the will of the manager, as opposed to things not settling. His choices, his comments and interviews - all of this contributes towards a fear that things will not improve, or not much.

I, personally, am prepared to wait, and am solely consoled by Van Gaal's comments of Young being 'good, but not Neymar' and the open admission that he needs more speed in attack. This is the only thing that gives me hope, as it indicates that the manager is in agreement with us on this fundamental point. Let's get some more speed in attack and see what happens from there.

Feeling here LVG is nearly insane and all that. I may be called a LVG advocate again but criticism is going on in multiple threads whatever the thread is about. For instance this story pops out, total bs in my opinion and people are quick to jump on his back.
Some of his decisions are strange but as you said he is aware of our problems. Hopefully we'll get Pedro, maybe one more player and go on from that.

The papers say he is valued at 35m!

It seem we are holding out for another 6 or 7m for De Gea, yet we are going to pay 35m for a 29 year old who will be a squad player.

Not even left footed!

A transfer rumour thread that is probably bullshit turns into another LVG bashing session, just like 90% of the threads on redcafe.

Just seems needless, now we have Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and Blind who can play as a 6. Even Herrera can fill in there in an emergency situation. At an even bigger push, if all 5 of those happen to be injured, then there's Fellaini, or even Jones. It's the one position we really don't need to be looking at.

It might be Gaitan-esque garbage, but this one seems to be making too much noise to be totally made-up. I hope I'm wrong.

I think the concerns are valid personally, even if some people perhaps exaggerate. For the first time in a long time, I think with us, we have experienced problems that can be very clearly traced back to decisions of the manager. His insistence we play 3-5-2 and it not working, his playing of Wayne Rooney in centre-midfield and it not working, his dropping of Herrera when he so clearly adds so much to us. It is baffling. Our lack of threat out wide, yet the signing of one of the best young wingers in Europe and not even trying him there. Seemingly not playing our best defenders because they are both right-footed. These are things that rightly draw questions. They are strange decisions, and by and large, look just as strange when expressed on the pitch.

It is good to be optimistic, but concerns are justified. We have seen a lot more than one outrageous tactical decision, and the majority of them have played out exactly as feared on the pitch. Why would people not take issue on a discussion board?

Nobody says people should not take issue.
All these are valid points, but sometimes criticism goes way overboard that's what I meant.
As I said it has been just one game.

Agree with all that man. He does make some strange decisions alright
