We've been linked with him in the past, going back to around 2011 (so were Arsenal and Liverpool in following years) and now we're being linked with a 17M move for him this week. Its the Sun, Daily Star and the Telegraph that are reporting this though. Anyone watch him regularly? The early links from years back had him down as an attacking midfielder, now it seems he's a holding mid and he's 29. Could be signed as a solid backup player, and he has a lot of experience having played at the world cup including the entire final. Still, the rumored transfer fee is a little high, and our midfield is loaded. I don't think he's needed.

We've got Carrick, Bastian, Morgan, Herrera for those two deep positions.

No chance.

I'd rule Herrera off that list. Van Gaal clearly does not trust him or want him to play as part of a double pivot. It's an unneeded signing, in my opinion, but you can see the logic of it if Van Gaal is going to stick to playing 4231 with two dedicated defensive midfielders.

I would much rather United go 433 with Carrick at the base rotating with Schneiderlin, Sweinsteiger on the left side rotating with Fellaini and Ander on the right, rotating with whoever when he's not available. That won't happen though. So...

I think Herrera will be there, but he's behind Schneiderlin, Bastain & Carrick in the pecking order.

He came on further up the pitch because he can also play there, but I don't think he is a long term option as a #10.

So we created sod all on Saturday so I'll go and sign yet another DM. The way we are going it will be 10 years before Wayne breaks Sir Bobbys scoring record.

I agree with you that Herrera is not a #10, sadly I don't believe our manager thinks that. You're right that Herrera is clearly behind Morgan, Basti and Carrick for a role in the double pivot. That was shown in the PSG friendly when LVG didn't bother to give him another go in that role. Van Gaal obviously thinks Herrera is too adventurous to play as part of a double pivot. That's been clear since he subbed him off against Arsenal in the F.A. Cup last season (which coincidentally was the last time we played 4231 in a competitive match, and it looked pretty damned similar to what we saw against Spurs: No chances created once we went with two sitting midfielders in the second half, hoof after hoof to nobody..)

Or this could well be complete bullshit.

Aye, we don't want anyone too adventurous playing for us. That will go against the Manchester United tradition. Goals who wants to see goals, the fans want to sit and watch the defence play the ball around amongst themselves. Really gets the juices flowing that does. If we end up with no Pedro either we will be in trouble.

Can't see any reasoning behind this one. That price, age and most of all position makes no sense. We're more than covered.

Someone just needed some Monday morning click-bait and likely called Metro to ask them to work their Random Name Generator and this lad's name came out.

He's very boring. Even at Anderlecht he used to get criticized for his lack of creativity. He passes well but he's a very safe player. Decent at what he does, but the absolute last thing we need at the moment.

Finally we have enough quality midfielders, and what happens? We spend our time trying to sign more instead of positions where we are under-staffed.

Midfielders are the new strikers.

:lol::lol:

Mate, my fear is even if we get Pedro he'll just end up running down blind alleys trying to beat six footers like Ivanovic to long balls...

We could buy Ronaldo back, until Van Gaal has someone in midfield linking the play our attacking players will be little more than spectators who get the odd touch.

You are right about the midfield. How does he expect us to create anything if there is no link between the sitting midfielders and the forwards? It's madness. Then he has one winger who can't go past anybody and the other one who might do just that playing in the middle. Teams will just come to OT and pack the defence, why wouldn't they, we aren't a threat atm. Yes the players aren't fit yet, but the set up of the team is wrong, fitness won't change that.

It will be the obvious tactic. Teams did it when Moyes was our manager. Give up the flanks, pack the centre, wait for cross and then beat United's sub six foot attackers in the air and counter. The only reason why we're not as susceptible to being hit on the break now as we were under Moyes is because our defensive six is much better. Still, Spurs definitely had the better of the play on Saturday, especially late on. Also had Eriksen's lob gone in early would we have gotten back into the game? Unless Van Gaal is planning to buy several massive units then I have no idea how he expects us to be successful playing this way.

Can't have too many midfielders can we? Think we're making up for the lack of midfielders in recent years.

Skysports throwing this one around too. Would be an odd signing

Seen him a lot of times at Anderlecht, not good enough in my opinion and a very unnecessary signing considering we have plenty of options there now.

Had a quick search on google and most of the previous links seem to be from the likes of Metro, Express and Goal etc.

I would also doubt LvGs sanity. He can't just keep buying players and discarding them left right and centre. You are supposedly a great coach, then coach the players you have in a system that suits them.

I know they are very different types of players but Herrera is a level above Biglia ability wise. Surely even LVG should see that.

Not only is Herrera a superior player in terms of ability, he's also the type of player our first XI would benefit a lot more from than another safe and defensive midfielder. It's a baffling rumour and I can't believe Van Gaal is actually considering it.

He's obviously using us to get a new contract.

We aren't signing a mediocre midfield player when we already have Schweinsteiger, Carrick, Schneiderlin, Herrera, Blind and Fellaini competing for two positions. We haven't had this strength in depth for over a decade.

Carrick and Blind will play as CB and Herrera is a supersub, we need a new DM so Biglia is a logical choice.....
