Our most senior players look inept and confused in 3-5-2. Surely with kids out there a more solid system would be best.

At this early stage getting points on the board is vital. No need to put RVP straight back in.

Is it just me or are we actually looking worse this season? I know we were without our two summer signings, but last year at least our away form was good.

To be fair, even when we won the league, we had some terrible performances also and had to rely on RVP to bail us out.

West Ham in the cup was dreadful. Southampton away was dreadful. Just to name a few

I'll repeat what I said in the other thread.

The last time our man Louis said he liked a player, we signed him for £63.9m (According to SkySports). So...

Clutching maybe... one straw.

Again, strange decisions today which surprise me. Kagawa could have been the one who brought something into this game I thought as Mata was poor while Januzaj at CM is just weird.

Kagawa I think has been unlucky in both games. We had injuries in both games and that cost at least 1 sub. I'm certain he'd have come on in both games if we had 3 subs left 60 mins into the game.

That's true, we were very resilient and grinded out a lot of 1-0 wins and last minute goals. That resiliency, or 'aura', whatever you want to call it, started to dissipate after Fergie retired and all but disappeared by the time Moyesy got the sack.

It's a completely new formation that these players obviously aren't used to. I don't think our centrebacks have ever played in a defence with 3 at the back, I hope they'll improve once they go back to the classic 4 man defence.

He was our best player today. Agree with Januzaj part though.

LiONel Messi.

Is it wrong I'm actually quite sure Vidal is seriously one of the targets we're going to go for before the end of the season?

Im giving him the loyalty i never gave moyes because frankly i believe in van gaal. he needs to do whatever is necessary to get this squad back on track and if that means selling fan favourites then so be it. the only thing worse than making the wrong decision is not making a decision at all.

Well we cant forget tha Swansea and Sunderland aren't ass easy as some thought. They will get some points from the other top teams.

We do look worse but the reasons are understandable. We're injured everywhere, we've switched to a very different formation than most of the players are used to, and we are still working the Moyes approach out of our brains. Today it was obvious that half the team wasn't used to the one touch passing or the pressing required to make the 352 work. The defenders had little time to regroup because the midfield and attack were creating very little time for them.

Welbeck coming on improved things greatly, which makes sense considering the strength of his link up play and his speed/strength. Then we saw the wingbacks able to get forward. Still relying too much on 'get it wide, get it in' but I think that will go away as the players play together under the system longer and anticipate each others' passes, the flicks, and runs.

He's not one to get up and use his technical area. Team needed a direction and a change of plan but nothing came of it.

He's surely not after such a defeat. The Messi one obviously but I also think the Vidal remark could be a sign for the board.
I'm confused because I thought he didn't want Vidal until we're sure about his knees.

Has he underestimated the strength of this team with the performances in pre-season? He surely has to bring in at least two more players after seeing what we are capable or rather NOT capable of in consecutive matches. The staff and Ed had a very very busy one week ahead of them which could determine where we might finish this season.

And he played 45/70mins (depends who you believe) the other day for Juve...

And we all thought Moyes was the problem

No doubt we need more reinforcements but let's not forget the players missing, I'm sure LVG will have that in mind.

I d still take him. I don't think the knee is too big of an issue. Its must be something else. He played in the WC for two weeks and has rested since then for two months.

He needs better players for the sake of balance. That's all he needs. He's organized, his philosophy was proven in various clubs of every size, he got similar level of knowledge to likes of Sir Alex and Ancelotti but he lacks few ambitious professionals with character in the club.

All the main ones missing are defenders yes! But more than the defense its the offense that is of concern. We have conceded three goals but scored only two goals in the first two games. If we had conceded five goals in each of the games then yes we can take solace in the fact that its our defense and we will be back once everyone is fit. Problem is they all are rarely back and secondly our attack is so flat. No pace, no width, no crosses. We aren't moving the ball quick enough from side-to-side.

Rafael and Shaw would add so much more to the attack and at the moment Herrera is the one guy would encourages us to be more adventurous.

And Herrera is injured. You can't put all your eggs in one basket and thats exactly what we have done in Herrera. What if he was out for 6 months instead of 2 weeks? We need some steel in midfield and honestly if Fletcher never plays for us again, I wont be that disappointed. Carrick also can't come back any sooner but he is still a month away and needs to get back match fitness so give or take another month. We are truly fecked if we don't get in another midfielder before the window closes.

Right now I'm just praying that Di Maria signs as soon as possible so we can go to 4 at the back and have him and Januzaj on the wings.

Having Shaw, Rafael, Herrera and Carrick out all at once is really hurting us !

Very true, it is just impossible to remember that whilst watching the team struggling. But away from the drama on the pitch it is a very valid reason and important to remember.

That's why I said we needed more reinforcements... I'm just saying LVG would no doubt take the sure quantity of injuries into consideration.

Shaw on the left and Rafael on the right instead of Young/Valencia would have helped today. But we still desperately need a class CM. Carrick is over the hill to me.

I can live without us buying another CB this week because we now have Rojo...

You're right in that we need reinforcements but the thing we need to sign midfielders rather than defenders because the majority of players out are defenders - around 4 I think including Rojo. But midfielders even if they come back its Anderson, Carrick and Fellaini. That aint much to go on with. Ando and Felliani aren't going to help much with either system we play and Carrick is on the decline. So taking injuries into consideration is a fair point when we are looking at our defense not our midfield.

And we all thought Moyes was the problem
I think one more thing that is holding us down is the confidence.. the confidence has been seriously dented.. after last season's abysmal performance.. and for that I blame Moyes.. If he had bought midfielders who were available... and not spent almost 70M on Mata and Felliani.. we would have been better..

LVG obviously has not been able to play his preferred 433 because to play that system you need to have outstanding wingers and forwards while also needing to have 2 solid central defenders and a solid holding midfielder...With the hopefully impending signing of Di Maria happening soon, I think LVG will be realizing very quickly that we have to shift to 433...Mata needs to be benched or sold...Rooney will have to play deeper and I expect LVG to sign a player like De Jong and hopefully another experienced central defender also so that he can switch to 433

Moyes made such a monumental mess of the team with awful signings and tactics where we lost Vidic in the process from his awful ways.... that it's going to take LVG a few months to turn this whole Moyes mess around and I am still very confident that we have the right man in charge to turn it around especially if the Di Maria thing happens

The way the players have been programmed in recent years goes against everything Van Gaal believes football should be like. I'm sure he didn't know how deeply rooted basic things like lack of movement are in our players. It will take time, maybe more than he realized.

He'll teach us to play good football again. But it WILL take time.

One thing I would say is that it seems he needs to learn the hard way that Robin and Rooney together doesn't work. He said one of the reasons he doesn't use 4-3-3 is in order to use BOTH of them together. He'll realize eventually.

Stop making excuses for him. Players don't forget how to play football, there is plenty of movement when we play the right way. 3-5-2 isn't the right way and it's showing. LVG is looking a bit clueless in his biligerent attempt at imposing himself on the club. The man is all about his own ego, he thinks he's bigger than the club.
