London 2012 - Track & Field/Athletics

Not sure why i can't quote, but RE Sammsky:

Can assure you that 99% of the people here in Britain, and in most of the world really, were egging Mo on. I'm in a pub right now in London, and the excitement and joy is unrivalled. Never seen a pub celebrate anything so much.

Who gives a feck what a few idiots say? No one with an ounce of decency is listening.

Sammsky1, I don't know what you've been reading, but over the past week I've heard/read nothing but complete admiration for Mo Farah. You only need to look at the atmosphere in the stadium tonight to see that. Even on the Daily Mail website, 99% of the comments are in praise of Mo. A tiny, extremist racist minority that expresses itself on the web is hardly an elephant in the room, more like a fish in the ocean.

He's one of the favourites to win BBC SPoTY

Hardly 'a fish in the ocean' when reputed magazines are remarking upon it: (a 2 sec google search of 'Mo Farah Plastic Brit')

Yes, I agree. Along with some of the cyclists, he fully deserves to be in contention for SPOTY.

Mo's fabulous, fantastic guy, and alot of winners prove why Britain IS a great place, though with its flaws, but where doesn't have flaws. It's great seeing such a diverse set of winners. Obviously you are always going to get the "they take our jobs!" brigade, but eh, who cares.

Him, Brad and Ben are gonna be deservingly knighted. And I don't want to bet on who wins the Sports personality, though Mo has the best personality of the three, but the TDF is a HUGE thing to win, but so is Mo's double.....Ennis will probably take third, but they should really have a separate one for women this year.

I agree with rednev... they'll always be stupid shit spoken on dark corners of the internet/comment sections of news stories... but from what I've seen, it's been 99% positive and celebratory of the great man that is, Mo Farah.

wow. Thank you for restoring my belief in modern day British decent society.

Yeah if these games prove anything they prove that Britain has left post-colonialism behind.

Mo is a lovely guy. Some people are just sad losers.

Well tons of them are people defending him and not the plastic brit thing tbf.

It's the bloody Mail, Sam. We're lucky they haven't claimed that Mo gives you cancer...yet.

Would you like me to cite the 68,000+ other references that a google search for 'Mo Farah Plastic Brit' shows up?!!!!

It's the internet, of course this stupid shit exists. Unfortunately, some people in the world/country are idiots, it is an unavoidable truth... but ultimately, pretty much every normal, non-hate-filled, right-minded individual has had nothing but praise for Farah.

Just type in the word "Farah" into Twitter...

wow. Thank you for restoring my belief in modern day British decent society.
Sam the games really show up the gulf between 20th-century and 21st-century Britain. The Brits now exemplify a modern post-colonial society, they don't lose anymore and the crowds are as ra-ra as the raucous Yanks.

Seriously, as you're currently outside of the UK, it's hard for you to truly gauge the atmosphere of these games. It definitely feels as if there is an expression of a new kind of Britishness, one where waving the Union flag has nothing to do with right-wing nationalism. I'm currently in rural North Wales and today I was in a Welsh speaking village, whose inhabitants are, shall we say, rather insular, and in the local shop people were talking about getting home to root for Mo Farah in tonight's race. And as someone has said, pubs everywhere were packed tonight with people supporting Mo. 'Mo-mania', I don't know, but he is probably the most popular bloke in the country at this minute.

OK, thanks mate. :)

I was thrilled with Mo in that final lap, shouted an screamed like when Terry slipped to hand us the CL in 2008 - thats how good it felt ... Because he was British and its a wonderful final evening for team GB in these games (the boxers still to go tomorrow!)

OK thanks. I stand corrected.

feck the internet idiots.

4x100

I think an upset is possible. USA are very strong.

These idiots come up with some silly arguments. What is British? We are all probably descended from Anglo-Saxon(Germany), Viking, Roman or Norman.
So should nobody represent us.

Same here. I was unaware there was anything but huge backing for Mo. He's the man!

I'm not sure that is new, at least not for those people secure in what i means to them. Some commentators [typically on the left] have projected a sentiment qutie without basis much of the time which created a fear in people.

I really wouldn't take the opinions of trolls on newspaper comment pages as representative of any majority or significant opinion.

yeah, but you have smoking jackets with leather covers on your elbows, so you don't count :p

Seriously the kids next door were all outside screaming and running round the garden after Mo won tonight. These games have been fantastic to be honest.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree.

He's sharing it with:

The British people have risen to the occasion. All the overseas competitors and IOC officials have been singing the praises of the British public, the volunteers and the crowds. It does make you proud.

This will undoubtedly give a big boost to tourism and overseas trade.

This is it , I think Bolt is going to give his all now. He seems the kind of guy who would take it easy on personal glory to help his team shatter some records.
