London 2012 - Track & Field/Athletics

Just rewatching the Rudisha race.. He never gave his opponents a single chance, leading from start to end.Amazing stuff

I said earlier, what Rudisha did was, imo, equally aa impressive as anything Bolt has done. He destroyed the field in exactly the same way Bolt has. Fantastic stuff.

Clearly Bolt is not as fast as he was 3 years ago. Hope he can get back into that shape next year and break his world records.

What a race that was. At one point i thought Blake might just take him over, but then Bolt just got faster. He's so cocky, if he didn't take it easy in the end, he could have broken the record. He's just awesome :D

he trolled yohan blake at the expense of smashing his own WR! what a legend

Nah not at all. As Johnson said on commentary, he knew he wasn't on record pace so backed off and celebrated. These athletes race that much they probably just know.

Blake was quite fast on the straight, might have been a bit more interesting had he got a better start. 19.44 is not bad, be interesting to see how he develops.

Bolt turns his back on the interviewer to respect the kenyan National Anthem, so the guy grabs Weir and makes him talk...Bit classless from the beeb there. Plus he keeps bloody touching people!

It's a shame that the 800m isn't publicized like the 100m and 200m races are. What he did was amazing and after listening to his interview, he's a cool and modest guy

I know that wasn't good. Lack of respect.

I have absolutely no idea what either Weir or Blake just said, but that interview was amazing

Why did he shush blake as he crossed the finish? Bit cheeky.

The three medals for Jamaica, how proud must the people from that country feel right now ?

less than 3 million people and they are totally dominating the most prestigious event at the olympics. Must be amazing.

He had also stopped the interview before when the USA national anthem played, he's class.

It's a good that a guy who dominates his sport like he does is also showing some classy attitude in regards to other athletes. It'd be so easy to be arrogant and big headed for him right now

Yep. He is cocky and a showman, but always respectful and down to earth. It's a lovely blend for the world's greatest athlete and he's the perfect ambassador for track and field.

Did anyone see him flirting with the official just before the race too? The guy is pure brilliance :D

We're all honoured to be seeing him race!

Rudisha has just said it'd be good fun to race Bolt over 400m.

Surely Rudisha would win, I mean, surely.

That would be an interesting race and as much as i'd love to see Bolt do the 400m, I just can't see it anymore, can't see him putting the effort in to train for it.

Bolt used to run 400m. His personal best is 45.28 in 2007. Rudisha's is 45.50 from 2010.

Think of Bolt trained a bit, he'd kill him.

Yes but he has admitted he can't be arsed to train for the 400m

Hopefully, he'll set his sights on the 400m for Rio. Try for even more medals than Beijing and London.

Always felt that Johnson running 100/200/400m was part of what made him such a legend.

It wouldn't just be a matter of training.Bolt would have to alter his entire physique to perform on 400m.
Here is a photo of him in 2007 ,you can see how his muscle mass developed over the years

Johnson never ran 100, not at any serious level anyway.

I don't think you can realistically compete at all three, not even Bolt. He'd have to switch to 200/400 which would leave us and him thinking "what if?"

He wouldn't have to change his physique at all.

However, Johnson believes Bolt has the talent to break his world record if he decides to step up to the one-lap event.

"He was a 400m runner before he was a 100m and 200m runner," Johnson told ESPN. "He has always been great as a 200m runner but he was a good 400m runner when he was very young.

"He has the build to be a great 400m runner and he certainly has the speed. Without a doubt I think if he chose to make the switch at some point in his career and decided he was going to train for the 400m I am certain he would break the world record and probably run under 43 seconds and become the first person to run 42 seconds."

He's better off maxing out his potential at 100m before taking on the 400m. The training for the longer run won't be as conducive to the pure speed and acceleration required to improve on his 100m world record.

Bolt's just had a rant about Carl Lewis, for claiming that the track guys are on drugs.

For some reason he didn't mention Carl's doping past, it's the first thing I'd bring up.

How will he have time to train for the 400 when he's playing for United?
