London 2012 Olympic Competition

Sir Paul McCartney and missus at cycling, obviously the hot ticket. Playing Hey Jude over P.A. and Sir Paul singing along.

Hmmm, a bit Cliff Richard at Wimbledon.

Why's that woman got a balding head? has she had cancer?

Ah right. Would have been pretty amazing if had raced like that so soon after chemo.

It's not the Olympics, but one of my professors at university was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma at the age of 76. He had chemo treatments and 2 weeks after he finished, he ran the Boston Marathon.

Christ that is impressive. After radiotherapy for testicular cancer my brother was knocked sideways for a couple of months.

Probably a lot to do with the timing of events as well. Well on schedule to break 50 though, which would be a great achievement.

That norwegian sprinter is well fit.

yeah, I approve. Quick google image search in the spoiler. Her name is Ezinne Okparaebo:

And she just finished 4th and set a new Norwegian record. Well done.

God how I loath the French handball team. Bunch of diving, arrogant, whiny cnuts.

If you guys would follow handball at all you'd love to smack Jerome Fernandez around. Makes Mourinho's arrogance seem childish.

edit: :D:D:D:D
feck off Frenchies. Top of the group!

Just had a look at reactions from rowing - It seems to be the generally accepted opinion that it was another instance of gamesmanship from the Brits to gain a restart after a poor start today.

Especially given that this almost never actually happens. The Danish team manager even saying they would have lodged a protest if they hadn't won the gold and that he won't be surprised if those who finished behind the Brits choose to do so.

It's not 'generally accepted' stop trolling. You got the bloody gold, just celebrate that instead of wumming on here.

I am sure it's not in Britain.

It's not trolling to comment on these things. Don't be so butthurt.

Jessica Ennis ... groovy poster girl!!!
Greg Rutherford .... take a bow and bask in the evening sun
Mo Farah .... You amazing amazing man!!!!!!!

14 Golds already ... Team GB: 3rd in the medals after only the superpowers of China and USA.

(i remember we only won 5 golds in the 1st Olympics I saw in Los Angeles in 1984!)

Wow - just wow - come on team GB ... make the most of home advantage and the amazing support you have.

So proud.

They didn't get a bad start so it doesn't even make sense as a theory. Plus they were barely under the 100m mark, so it was always a gamble they'd be disqualified, and the seat came right off so how would they have done that if it was tactical? They'd have to have started with a loose seat on the off chance that they started badly, which would obviously disadvantage them.

You've won the gold, it just seems mental that you're on here nipping away at our team rather than celebrating your own, I really don't get it.

I'm a bit uncomfortable with the whole patriotism thing but I'll make an exception for this.

Sports Personality of the Year will be very interesting this December.

The way they've been talking up Ennis tonight she seems like a bit of a shoe-in for it at the moment to be honest.

Just seen the medal table. Incredibly impressive from Britain. Starting to run away with 3rd place now.

Nah, 5/2 vs Wiggins at 1/3. He was 1/7 though before, so has come in significantly. So many worthy winners of SPOTY this year.

Completely forgot about Wiggins actually. He's a good shout for it. As you say though there are so many who could potentially get it and so many who would deserve it as well. If Murray wins the mixed doubles AND the singles then he'll become one of the most likely too as well.

Murray is 10/1 currently with Hills. Reckon Wiggins deserves it- winning the gold was it 10 days after the Tour is unbelievable. Team GB surely is a shoe-in for the team award. Hopefully that is some form of recognition for their efforts. Hell they have golds anyway- far more important than SPOTY!

Why is everyone overlooking John Terry as Spoty?

Good point actually, he has won 14 gold medals at the Olympics so far, killed Gadafe towards the back end of last year and will be integral for Obama when the presidential race comes around. Managing Chelsea to the Champions League wasn't a half bad achievement either. Shoe-in for it in my opinion.

It has been done before.
