Liverpool's inevitable q̶u̶a̶d̶r̶u̶p̶l̶e̶ tr̶i̶p̶l̶e̶ dibble/ The Hala Madrid Thread

Finally like the 10 threads to jinx Liverpool have succeeded

As I said before, they've as much change of just winning the league cup than the quad.

Insane pressure all the talk of it

Now I can focus my attention on De Jong and other transfers without having to mind what these lot are up to.

Why couldn't KdB should "there's your fecking quadruple" down the lens when he scored his fourth?

Not a nice gesture to Kompany considering he's been the only ever person to openly suggest winning it. I'm sure Kompany is his friend.

I'm not British of course. I have read a lot British fans value the league more than the Champions League. Is that true?

Sometimes yes.
For example right now Liverpool will prefer to win the league instead to equal our record.

That all depends on the team. Liverpool have 6 cups and 19 leagues. 7 of course puts us on par with Milan and we are giants in Europe, always have been. But the league is coveted to get to 20 and equal united. City on the other hand after that Madrid debacle probably would like to swap places with Liverpool. Other team I couldn’t speak for. I’m sure united would like to get number 4.

Everyone is different. I'd rather 21 to be honest. I've always had much more affinity for the league. Be the best in your own country and Europe will take care of itself.

Treble!?!
It shouldn't even be called the "double" without the League.

Single: CL/PL
Double: CL+PL
Treble: CL+PL+FA
Quadruple: CL+PL+FA+League Cup
Pentuple: Quadruple+some other fancy Cup like the Club WC

It's a matter of personal taste really and what one values. Our CL win in 08 is one of my best footballing memories as it's the only one I witnessed live and while on that account I should want number 4 more, it's not the case. Winning out next league title is miles more important to me. And I've always been like that - I find the CL a lot of fun, but a tad overrated. Most of my great football memories, storyline, rivalries and narrative come from the PL. Our rivalries with Arsenal, then Chelsea and then City. So many nerve racking moments. While the CL is special because it's glorified so much I personally feel you have to conquer your own league first and foremost. I felt that way back when we were dominant and it hasn't changed.

Yeah if they don't win the Pl it isn't the double (like ours in 08) or treble. Good achievement of course but it's a treble only in name.

Doesn't pool already have a mini treble? With the league cup instead of the fa?

As a United fan no way I would take the league over CL. Liverpool up until 2 seasons would of as they didn’t win the PL ever.

During the modern day CL era, Liverpool are the only club to win it more times than their domestic league title right? 2, potentially 3 CL wins depending on what happens in Paris compared to 1 league title (when there were empty stadiums and numerous COVID restrictions in place) during that period. If Real win in Paris, they’ll have 10 La Liga titles compared to 8 CL wins during this same period.

So it’s understandable that if there is one European ‘heavyweight’ that would value a domestic league title even more than a CL win, it would be Liverpool.

If we were ahead of united in titles it would be the European Cup. We were the team that ruled Europe and the league for years and the the nights in Europe and at Anfield we’re just different than league games. Seven is going to be huge for sure as it will take decades for any English team to match it but damm I want 20-21 leagues to be fully back on that perch. We might be there already the the European count.

There’s an idea. In 1999 I swear I didn’t hear talk of The Treble until around the second week in May. We’ve been listening to this Quadruple crap since January,.

But to be fair we hadn't won the league cup early in the season to fuel that potential talk

I'd pretty much always take a league over the CL. For me, CL is great but KO football isn't always the best at rewarding the best. The league does that due to the volume of games.

I'm not British of course. I have read a lot British fans value the league more than the Champions League. Is that true?
Personally I value a league trophy above the CL. I think it's a better indication of which team is the best. Plus watching league football each week just means more to me than watching European teams

Unlucky. There goes the last chance of anyone other than Saudi Arabia or Abu Dhabi ever winning the quadruple, thus making it irrelevant if it ever does happen. The 1999 treble will never be truly beaten in this country as an achievement now. Phew!

Seems we'll be lucky this year, narrowly miss it. Them winning a poor man's treble is still a possibility (without the league).

I do. Although in this instance, we are talking English League Football, as Scotland. etc. has their own league.

The best, at beating Watford.

I think this probably is a bit more of an English thing/countries who have more competitive leagues. In England you've got 8 teams who have won more than 5 titles and 19 that have won two or more and 24 teams in total that have won it once. Understand in countries like Spain where there have only been 9 different teams to have won it and 7 to have won more than twice, it is probably different. I mean, since 92 there have been 7 different teams to have won the league, which is close to the number of La Liga winners stretching back to 1929.

There's no way Liverpool are overturning a 7 GD deficit in 2 games, they're crawling over the line in games as it is.

3 more points for the Berties and this quadruple talk bollocks can die on its arse.

Also a Real Madrid fan thing. As long as I've watched football, in most years they've been second best to Barcelona. Especially over the last 10 years. So of course they would discount league accomplishments.
