Liverpool's inevitable q̶u̶a̶d̶r̶u̶p̶l̶e̶ tr̶i̶p̶l̶e̶ dibble/ The Hala Madrid Thread

If I was a Liverpool fan, I’d probably prefer another Premier League title over another Champions League win at this point.

In my lifetime they’ve won the Champions League twice, the first time following one of the most memorable finals during the competition’s history, and the second time following one of the most memorable semi-finals / comebacks during its history.

But during that same period they’ve only won the league title once despite being one of the 2 biggest clubs in the country so a huge underachievement (a dig was necessary). And that was during the pandemic without fans in the stadium and proper celebrations, and when there were numerous restrictions. So I’d want a league title under ‘normal’ circumstances, and then after that the CL would be the priority.

I’m most definitely not a Liverpool fan though so good luck to City in the title race, Chelsea in the FA Cup final and Real in the CL final !
See @Klopper76 this is a legit motivation! :D

If given the choice I would sacrifice both the CL and FA Cup this season for the golden 20 egg.

Just like Pep did (successfully).
Yeah, what i want to know is why

You say that but all I hear is [redacted]. Don't want to offend, sorry! :D

I mean, i'm sure there are legitimate motivations i can understand. That, i can't. It's just dumb. How is a trophy you won 19 times harder to win than one you won 6 times....
It's not always about harder. I'd also prefer winning the PL if/when we get back to the top.

If I was a Liverpool fan I'd much prefer a league win to a CL win too.

It's blood boiling we've given them 9 goals which has them just ahead on GD.

I don't wanna see them have an AGUUUUUEEEROOOO moment of their own

I might get hard slaps here as I am about to commit blasphemy. But if not united then I would love to see Liverpool winning quadruple. It would be an indication that in the world of oil money bankrolled, state sponsored clubs still any club can win trophies if they follow proper footballing philosophy. I think likes of United, Liverpool are hope for larger football community. (Although we are in disgraceful state right now despite being rich on our own.)
Where do you live?

Imagine if after all this they only won the Carabao

I want these feckers to lose all three in the most painful way possible: relinquishing leads in the cup finals to late winners for Chelsea and Madrid, and for City to leave it until the death to beat Villa on the final day of the league. It would be heart-attack-inducing for us neutrals but imagine the pay-off…

The PL has always been my favourite football competition. Winning your own 38 game league to be the best in England is IMO always the first priority. The CL is wonderful but league success comes first.

If I was a Liverpool fan I would look back at the multiple CL final appearances and occasional wins we achieved under Benitez/Klopp and think we could still be competitive in that competition even when our current level inevitably drops off a bit.

Whereas beating the current City side requires a much higher level of sustained performance and I would be anxious to make the most of that in terms of title wins while we have a side that's at their level.

Also, I would think that as we are already the English side with the most CL/European Cup wins, drawing level with and overtaking United as the side with the most league titles would do more for this team's legacy. At some point this great Liverpool team will drop off and if I was a Liverpool fan I would be dissapointed if they hadn't managed to overtake United in league titles by then given how close they are.

I was only talking to a Liverpool fan yesterday saying the same thing. Liverpool is chasing on too many fronts while Citeh, nearly ex-Chelski and RM can rest and prepare. If Citeh win today doubts will creep in. Klopp's mini sulk after the spurs game was classically funny.

If we were on 22+ league titles to Utd's 20 then I'd definitely take the CL first and foremost. But we're still behind them and it boggles the mind how. So I'll take the unboggling first before winning numbers 7 and 8 and becoming the second most successful club in Europe ever.

Klopp signing for two years more should hopefully see us achieve both of those goals this decade. So you can imagine we're not all suicidal just yet. Even if the Carabao is the only thing we win. We won the Klopp Cup already. :D

The mind boggles how? You didn’t win a league for 30 years. Does that unboggle it for ya?

You what?

History? Never. Here's for recent events: No more Ferguson :), Gerrard's slip. 97 points. Pep not fecking off while we have Klopp.

If Pep wasn’t here you would still be behind us.

Premier league having other teams that can win the league shocker.

Is baffling to me how the team that has won 4 out of the last 10 CL editions is being labeled an 'easy win for Liverpool' by some, is unreal. It seems this forum has a lot of Liverpool fans or Madrid haters.

Is the obvious overglorification of EPL in detriment of leagues & teams you haven't seen play full season. Liverpool is more than motivated to face Madrid in what will be a though game for either.

Btw, Madrid's defense isn't bad at all, 29 goals conceded in 34 matches, could improve, but it is serviceable. It received a late goal in Paris, 1 goal at London and 1 goal at Madrid twice: pretty reasonable.

Is just the gameplan that Ancelloti chose that almost backfired twice (PSG was a 'normal' comeback). Btw, It wasn't 'luck' either: Rodrygo and Camavinga are too dangerous on tired defenders and open space for a midfielder to always have time to direct the game while Benzema & either winger attract mark to leave one free and the other two 1-1. Mentality isn't luck either.

Guardiola refused the obvious tactic which was to play a line of 5 for the last minutes. Madrid had 5 up and one was always free. Second goal is a reflection of that.

He was seen talking about that with Lillo just as Madrid's second goal went in.

It will be amazing if Liverpool lose the league (which is very likely after city 5-0)
If they lose the FA cup to Chelsea.

There will be maximum pressure on them to win CL.

I’d rather win the Premier League over the FA Cup and Champions League as a double. It’d put us on 20 titles tied with United and for me the league is the more desirable trophy. Feels harder to win that than it is to win a European Cup.
I'm old enough to remember league title count stuck on 18 - 7 in favour of Liverpool for a couple of years.

After the Man City win against Newcastle, I wouldn't have to wish Chelsea and Real Madrid well in the finals.

Yes we used to throw 18-4 at the mancs all the time. Then the slow inevitable climb started by SAF to 20. So yes I would take 20 over anything. But we didn’t blow it because if City win out then we had no chance anyway. 19-7 does sound good though

If Liverpool win the Champions League that would put them on 7, which is second all time behind Madrid and tied with Milan. The Champions League is what establishes and builds a club as a European power, not any domestic title.

No quadruple for them, City are league-experts and won't drop any points now, besides, even if they do they have a better g/d so Liverpool has to win every game left in style to even have an outside chance.

No guarantee they win the two finals, but thats at least doable, league is not.

Not looking all that inevitable anymore. If they only end up with the league cup I may laugh all summer.
