I actually think he'd do a lot better up front than Lukaku in this form. He times his jumps accurately and he wins the battles. To me it seems Lukaku almost always mistimes his leaps for those long balls.

I think people are just reluctant to throw him under the bus like we regularly do with all our players. He's young. He's defensively suspect, which is to be expected, but he brings freshness to our team in attack. Sure, he tried twice to outrun Robertson and failed, but he succeeded the third time and was clear in the box only for the cnuty linesman to inexplicably give a foul.

Things that go unnoticed, Lingard was pressing Alisson the whole half and ended up getting a goal from the keeper’s mistake. I don’t think that’s a complete coincidence.

That goal had nothing to do with pressing... Pressing is when the opponent has the ball and trying to force a mistake. This was hoping for a cross/cutback from Lukaku for a tap in. It is good that he didnt stop running after passing to Lukaku but lets not pretend it had anything to do with actual quality. Just a huge mistake from the goalkeeper and a lucky bounce.

He won't have anyone to flick it onto either so it's not going to help us. Agreed. Matic is literally a passenger who’s lucky to nick a ball here and there and make a 5 yard pass backwards or sideways. Nothing progressive.
