You guys are funny. Even those of you who are tempted to pay a compliment feel the need to negate it with a swipe at the club as a whole.

good striker but lets face it, your lot have been a midtable club for several seasons now

To be fair he was good at Chelsea under AVB then when Di Matteo took over he didn't get a look in. Thought he'd be a good player after he did well at Bolton but has been starved of the opportunity. His development has definitely been stunted by lack of opportunity. For a guy who's 23 ideally he'd have played more football. But i guess its a case of Chelsea's loss is Liverpool's gain. I think he's got the potential to be a goal-every-other-game striker and he looks like he'll get the opportunity to prove himself at Liverpool. Good news for England too. Welbeck and Sturridge upfront could turn out to be quite the combo.

I think he is another Defoe, will always score goals, especially in his early matches for club but somehow always end up back on the bench before he moves on. I have seen lots of players like it, because they score managers want them but ultimately they disappoint.

He has done better than I expected. Solid displays capped off by playing very well against City.

you're going to have to fight it out with Swansea, West Brom and Everton for the next couple of seasons.

I guess we'll see won't we. Not that that has anything to do with how well Sturridge has settled though.

Uhoh... they have two Sturridges!

Liverpool expect Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sturridge to be fit for Monday night's game against West Brom.

Both players withdrew from international duty this week, Sturridgepulling out of England's friendly against Brazil with a thigh injury suffered during Sunday's draw at Manchester City.

but they will probably update it soon.

Defoe is exactly how I see him. They're both:

* Selfish

* Good dribblers at times, with their head down

* Can score goals

* Can score the odd spectacular goal

* English

He is pretty much the new Defoe, if you ask me.

Strange, could have sworn you just described Rooney or Suarez there.

He is decent. He looks a brilliant signing because compared to Carroll,Henderson,Downing,Enrique,Adam,Allen,Borini etc its not hard. Also for 12mil he is cheap compared to the other British buys Liverpool have made.

The player that promised so much in City's youth team was a bit forgotten at Chelsea imo. I think hes the type that needs a manager who'll put an arm round him at times....he wasnt given that at Chelsea at all. Id also think getting out of London will also help.

Rooney hasn't been a good dribbler for years and doesn't play with his head down and isn't selfish (and really at times, he should be more so).

Yeah, 10 years ago maybe. That isn't the current Rooney at all.
Suarez is about right though, just at a higher level. Although his passing is better than Defoe or Sturridge.

On current form I prefer to think that we paid £35m for him and £12m for Carroll.

Hang on.... we paid £12m for Andy Carroll? WTF were we thinking?

Nope, doesn't help that much actually .....

Seems a good player and a very good signing to me. He's fast, got proper goal scoring instincts and isn't too bad in the link up play either. He's also quite versatile in attack as he can also figure on the wing.

When he has not been available to play he has been badly missed.

Gives us genuine pace up front and also means Suarez can drop a little deeper, that combination is causing defenders a lot of problems.

Looks a good buy and can play in a few positions also, I wouldn't say he has been lacklustre at all. Just the opposite.

All he needed, IMO, was regular games and to be given time to improve.

Quality player and Liverpool have done well.

I rated him highly at Chelsea and was furious that he didn't get more games through the middle for us. He outscored Torres last season whlst being played out of position and had to warm the bench whilst Torres went on his 10 game goalless runs. He is a better striker than Torres 2013 in every single way - plus he's young and English. Why we sold him to a rival and persist with the awful Torres is quite beyond me.

You're certainly not the only Chelsea fan I have spoken to who thinks that. Quite a few were bemused by it...did Di Matteo just not fancy him?

It was all clearly because Roman had outlayed 50mil and wanted to see a return from it. Had he kept his nose out I reckon Sturridge would have played alot more.

Indeed. There is too much pressure in buying high profile players like Torres; most managers feel they have to play them, and the players have a huge burden on their shoulders. Torres isn't close to the player he once was; either play him behind the striker or sell him, imo. He's not an out an out striker anymore.

Once again Chelsea's poor transfers have resulted in Liverpool getting a gem in Sturridge and keeping an ageing overrated £50m striker. The sooner Chelsea flog him for whatever they can get, the sooner they can move upwards. It's been too long now, they've given Torres every chance to succeed and he hasn't. They should have kept hold of Sturridge. Liverpool now have a very good strike-force.

I always preferred him to Welbeck.

There. I've said it. :nervous:

*Opens window. Listens anxiously. The sound of pitchfork-wielding mob is heard in the distance. Takes one last look at the little room that has been his home for many years, and prepares to leave it forever*

He's nowhere near good enough to play behind the strikers. His link up playing, touch and passing has been awful recently.

He is now one of the worst strikers in the Premiership.

Nowt wrong with what you said. Some loons might take it as some sort of personal offence but its understandable why folk might think so. It is after all opinion backed with sense.

There have been a few murmerings about Sturridge's attitude behind the scenes, but I personally have seen nothing to vindicate that.

There were rumours that Di Matteo had sat Sturridge down and showed him some video footage of him taking shots from ridiculous angles when the pass was on (probably his biggest flaw), perhaps the coach felt this issue wasn't being addressed.

Part of me can't blame him for wanting to make an impression on the odd occasion that he got a run-out. He must have been wondering what he had to do to get some game-time watching Torres go for another one of his trademark 1,000 minute goalless runs.

He started getting a tough time from our supporters towards the end for perceived selfishness, something I thought was grossly unfair given the support that Torres had until recently been shown.

TBH, his link-up play, touch, & passing wasn't one of his main strengths even when he was in his prime at Anfield. His goals made up for that though. It's the main reason he's had to operate mainly as a lone striker for most of his career.

Unfortunately for him, & for Chelsea, he doesn't have the necessary attributes to be able to re-invent himself in a different role.

I have doubts about Sturridge long term but only an idiot would deny that he has started well. He tends to start well at clubs in anycase.

This is definitely true. I've said the same about Rafael, Nani and Anderson recently. Give them a lengthy run in the team and you'll see a totally different player than sporadic appearances. For Nani consistently being on the team sheet lead to his great performances 10-11. For Rafael it is clear this season. Hopeful once Anderson gets over his injury problems the same will happen with him (although it is becoming less and less likely).

It must be so difficult to come into a team and feel like the only way you'll keep your place is by doing something special. A prime example is again Nani at the moment, he is often trying to far do much, which when it works (Reading) makes him look brilliant, but when it doesn't he's poor.
