Are you clued into the details of how every team played? From when Sky invented football... To today? Ok then.
It's not the only factor but of course it matters. You can mitigate it with trophy count, strength of opposition, but if Liverpool won every game in the season and got 38*3 points, that would be a huge outlier relative to every other team.
It's not the only important metric. But it is important. How can Arsenal not losing any game (while drawing 12) not be important yet a measure of how many wins you got (point total) be dismissed?
Was talking about the champions of each season, not every single team. Like all the different Utd sides that won it. Can't recall points tally's just the way they played and the key moments in those season. We know which ones were the best, despite what the points tally may say.
Utd 1997 got 75 points. A side full of future Treble winners plus Cantona. Are they the worst ever PL champions in your opinion? 75 points, as a black and white stat is poor isn't it. But the reality is different. They were a quality young side which would soon grow into the best around.
That Arsenal side was special. Everyone knew it by watching them play. The 0 defeats - definitely adds to their legacy. & they did it against Fergie's Utd. Although they never retained the title or won in Europe. That counts against them in their claim to be No.1 PL side , more than points & 0 defeats counts for them. If the Invincibles had won the CL and retained the title they could definitely claim to be the best ever.
The only club & manager in PL history to win it 3 times on the bounce (twice) playing great football whilst winning in Europe (with 0 defeats both times) is Ferguson's Utd and that is why they are the best, I don't care what points tally's might say otherwise.
