Liverpool are going to break Arsenal's 49 game unbeaten run | HAHAHAHAHAHA LIVERPOOL BASTARDS | Specialists in Failure

Exactly, the debate about best ever PL side is OTT. Granted what they are doing now is amazing but really, they have to play 2 really difficult games a season Vs Man-City.

If you took individuals out the team, I would really only take 3 max 4 from their team.

Which ones would you take?

VVD, Trent, Fabs, Mane

Good choices - Fabinho is one of the most under rated players in the PL. I thought you might take Allison though as De Gea isn't the keeper he was of a few seasons ago. When Henderson returns from Sheffield Utd Ole will have a selection headache. It's interesting that Salah's stock has dropped so much recently that you didnt pick him. He still scores quite a lot - since he joined us only Messi has more goal involvements than him. He gets marked much tighter now than his first season, usually 2 or 3 players very close to him, but this has allowed TAA to get so much space.

I know mate. It just shows how far we've come, & how far the mighty have fallen. It's the hope that keeps us football supporters going. Sometimes it's the hope that kills you though.

Too right. You cut your cloth accordingly and when Scousers were laughing at me when Sulley Muntari's Portsmouth were denying United what would have been another treble in 08 of course I gave them the 'haha, petty wankers, you have no right to laugh at us' spiel but deep down I knew they had every right to appreciate their hated rivals getting mugged off. Even though it feels like you're watching them through the wrong end of a telescope such is the gulf between your respective positions you laugh, and you laugh heartily.

Remember the good old days when you guys used to laugh at us for failing to win trophies, failing to make title challenges, & even failing to make the top 6. Now you're laughing at us for failing to go the season unbeaten.

Happy days :D
Do you remember when you last won the league?
Good old days

It's only natural that a team that goes that long without being beaten is going to be a major talking point. Probably makes it worse that there are so many media outlets available in today's world, so the hype just becomes massively inflated. I don't understand why people get so worked up about it. I said at the start of the season that I thought the league would be won with a points total in the low 90's. I still stand by that. I fully expect us to lose at least a couple more times before the season's done. I'm still immensely proud though of what we've done though. Just the one defeat last season, & as of now, just the one this season.

Just want to say you're a cracking team. And you'll be worthy champions. But it's been annoying how you're thrown into the debate about best ever so eagerly. Do you consider this team to be on par with the likes of 07-09 Utd side, '94 Double winners, the Treble winners, The Invincibles, Jose's 04-06 Chelsea & Pep's City?

It's still early days but I think it's mainly the way you play. The Watford result has been coming for months. IMO you have more in common with our 2011 champions than any of the best ever. That side got to February without losing a game, reached a CL final but deep down we all knew it wasn't a special side. Or even our last PL winning side in 2013, we walked the league but again, all Utd fans knew it wasn't a vintage Fergie team despite getting a far bigger points tally than say the Treble winners.

I think Fabinho is the best CDM around at the moment. With a keeper, it is easier to replace considering Henderson is coming through, he is quite young so Ole will have a big decision soon.

It's not that his stock has dropped, I just feel that Klopp's style suits him and with Trent bombing on, he can play inside forward. He is not a player I feel will make a massive difference to our club.

I have alot of close Liverpool fans who say they would get rid of Salah for Sancho, which IMO is a bad thing. For a team like Manutd who get 6/7 goals from the Right winger a player like Sancho is an upgrade but for Liverpool when the RW is scoring 20 goals a season, Sancho will not be an upgrade.

Yep, its a very good job that Klopp has done to get the team playing with such intensity.

Every team needs luck, so anyone saying Liverpool have been lucky I do not take seriously, I have not seen one title winner to win the league without luck. City last season required late goals at the start of the season, the best teams make their luck. It is no coincidence that the best teams get the luck.

I expect Liverpool to hit 100 points this season tbh, now that the loss has come they can play without pressure.

Couldn't agree more. I don't see the point in us selling Salah only for most or all the money to go on Sancho.

Exactly, why change something that is not broken? you would be mad to make such drastic changes when you know the front 3 will cause problems to anyone.

People don't realise that if you get Sancho on the right, it affects more than just one element of the team. He isn't as strong as Salah with his hold up play, he prefers to drift in from wide meaning less space for Trent.

You are better of targetting Werner to provide different option without selling another.

I totally agree that this defeat has been lurking around the corner for some time now. I can't help but feel the players have gotten that used to winning without playing well, that they, & maybe Klopp too, have kind of accepted the sub-standard stuff we've seen recently. It's been a wake up call that's for sure. In terms of comparing them to past great sides, I think we have to wait to see how the manager & players respond to this defeat. Our last thrashing came against Spurs nearly two and a half years ago when we lost 4-1. After that we won 10 & drew 4 of our next 14 league games & kept a succession of clean sheets too. Klopp is very good at using set-backs as a tool to drive his players on. He did it after losing the 2018 CL final when we went on to win it the following year. Last year we failed by 1 point to win the league, this year to date we've only dropped 5 points out of a possible 84 & are red-hot favourites to end our 30 year duck. So I don't think the Watford loss defines us one way or another. We don't know for sure how all the hype about us possibly going the season unbeaten has affected the players. But we'll certainly have a better idea in the coming weeks/months.

Whether or not this team is on par with the likes of the great teams you mention is quite subjective and different metrics will give you different "best ever" teams. I don't want to go down that rabbit hole. But surely it's easy to see why this Liverpool team merits being part of this discussion. It's not based on just half a season. This team made back to back CL finals, winning one. They are likely going to have back to back 95+ point league seasons, winning one.

For sure, our gameplay has been boring for a while now. It's almost as if the CL final loss flipped a switch and now winning is all that matters. Once the PL monkey is off our backs, hopefully the team will start playing exciting football again.

There's also an element of ABUism in the media isn't there. If Liverpool had won a treble, there'd be no debate about which is the greatest PL team of all time, but because it's United and all non-supporters hate them, media outlets love devaluing the achievement. They massively over-rated the Arsenal 04 team as well.

This Liverpool side is quality, no doubt, but the league seems quite weak at the moment with United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham all struggling, and that's definitely been a major advantage for them. Will also be interesting to see how long they can keep playing at this intensity - that all-action style must really take it out of the players.

Utd fan 1: yeah I'd take Alison, VvD, TAA, Mane
Utd fan 2: yeah I'd take VvD, TAA, Robertson, Fab
Utd fan 3: yeah I'd take VvD, TAA, Mane, Salah
Utd fan 4: yeah I'd take Alison, TAA, VvD, Salah
etc

All high five at the end for being proven right.

They've somehow got even mouthier since they've lost.
The caf, or should I say 90% of social media, has been waiting more than a year for this to happen. The closer we got to the record, the funnier it would be for anyone else and the longer it took for us to lose, all the more OTT and ridiculous the critics would be - and it's exactly that which I've seen on Twitter for example. People saying we're just an average side who's fluked their way to 40-something unbeaten games and this many point in the league already, I mean... Come on.

And yes, no doubt that we also have our fair share of moronic fans who get ultra defensive because of those critics. Makes me cringe if I see stuff like this:

There are literally no arguments to defend such things

I just don't get the infatuation with the ending of our unbeaten run. I mean it’s not as if we haven't gone unbeaten in a full league season already.

It's a long time ago so probably only a few on here will remember it. A time when you weren't considered a man unless you smoked a pipe and had a handlebar moustache. A time when you scored a goal you got a firm handshake from your team mates and occasionally a manly slap on the back. Of course I’m talking about season ‘93/’94. Admittedly it was in the then second division but going unbeaten in the 19th century was a much better achievement than in the 21st century.

Back then times were so tough that we only had 9 pairs of boots and 10 pairs of socks. So every week one player had to play in his socks and another in his bare feet – we suffered 37 broken metatarsals that season. It was just as well there was no World cup that summer. We didn’t have none of this luxury team coach lark with air-con, soft seats and blocking out the world with headphones. Players travelled on penny farthings to the game, battling the elements without stopping for toilet breaks and having to leave two days in advance just to make the kick-off.

As unbeaten winners of the division what did we get for our achievement? There wasn’t a gold trophy in sight, miniature or otherwise. We didn’t even get automatic promotion to the first division. Instead we had to get on our bikes again and head to Ewood Park for a test match and first ever meeting against a wee team called Newton Heath (whatever happened to them?) to see who would play in the first division next season.

Invincibles…… we only did it 110 years before Arsenal.

NB: the above was written after my GP gave me some meds to cope with the trauma of the Watford loss. Had to wait for ages as there was dozens of Liverpool fans in front of me, it was carnage in that waiting room. The Doc advised that there would be side effects and to expect increased nostalgic delusion – still waiting for that to happen, yawn…

It's crazy to suggest this Liverpool side is nothing more than average considering their points total, it truly is, but that's the way I feel about it watching you every week (which I do because I'm just that sad). The performances I'm seeing do not, in any way shape or form, reflect your lead in the title race. If you're planning to put this down to "just another United fan with a biased view" you'd be making a mistake.

We're remarkably consistent and almost always find a way to win / grind out victories. You can put that down to luck, or to the sign of being a great side which finds a way, whichever way you look at it. Are we consistently as good as City on their day when they completely play their opposition off the park with neat football? No, definitely not either. But there's a German efficiency to our play which is not for everyone, I'll concede that. I think I enjoyed watching us play more 2 seasons ago, then last season, then now. But we win more now.

i'm just waiting for somebody to compare them to the houston rockets honestly...

Talked like Liverpool fan right there. #HistoryChannel

Nothing about them. They work well in a system, I do not think they will impact a team as much as the other 4.

TAA has incredible potential, but right now, Robertson is the better full back if you're talking about slotting into any system.

I agree Robertson is brilliant, Trent will improve his defensive skills as he gets older but no one can take away his ability. I don't think Trent is potential, he is ready and showing what he is capable of.

Robertson is a all rounded LB but there are other LB's around that are similar.

And your argument is trying to prove something?!
What??!!

Unbeaten runs count for nothing unless you win something (like trophies) at the same time, and United have won lots.
I'll stop at 13 Premier Leagues. :D

Yeah, I was 31 years old at the time. I also remember us winning major European trophies on a regular basis when I was even younger. How old do you think you'll be when you get to experience such wonderful things ?

Like winning the TREBLE ?! :D

Isn’t not playing well but still grinding out the results the hallmark of a great side? Our 08-09 league season was basically that, and we never turned it on in Europe either except the semis against Le Arse.

Also when does the cull go into effect? Still many Scousers roaming about here.

The 3 best sides in prem era for me. All 3 would beat this Liverpool side
