Liverpool after Ryan Babel

Well he did cost them what, same as Nani?

Still young enough to progress elsewhere.

Cold Boy: You should wiki Hoffenheim. Very interesting club.

I thought Nani was like £18m?

To be fair to Ryan, he's had 3 managers that he's failed to impress at the club. He obviously doesn't have the right application and professionalism to impress in training and he's failed to be consistent on the pitch.

£7m is a fantastic price for him, I'd wish him well if I ever met him and hopefully he can build up some momentum in Germany. Let's put the £7m towards the fee for Sanchez

I always liked Babel. Bit of a cnut, but similar kind of player to Nani, and I reckon had he been given the same playing time, opportunities and teammates as Nani he could well be a similar level of player today. For me, it is a career ruined by a manager who didnt show any real faith in him - and surprisingly not Chelsea or City the culprits for once.

I think if another team with lower expectations can get his career back on track we may see him again in Europe (as in, the CL) or at least Europa league, he could easily become a good player for a Spurs or so, but I dont think he will ever make it into the real elite of europe.

Bit of a blast from the past this thread though, some of the comments now are just gold when you look back.

How could he possible have "failed to impress" Daglish? The man's only been there a week.

Dog leesh has actually been there since July 2009, so I guess he had already made up his mind. Trying to get a few pennies to play with I guess.

No-one ruined him. He just isn't that good.

Had pace and power but no awareness and no footballing brain. And couldn't trap a ball or get his head up.

That said, I hope it goes well for him if he ends up in Hoffenheim.

Always thought under the right manager and in the right set up he could become a top player. Going down the Quaresma route of unfulfilled potential though.

Far from done, this deal.

Babel apparently wants a move back to his former club Ajax Amsterdam instead of going to Hoffenheim.

Nope.

He's off.

Liverpool's Dutch forward Ryan Babel has agreed to join Germany's Hoffenheim, the Premier League club said on their website on Monday.
A bid for the 24-year-old was accepted last week and Babel will travel to Hoffenheim, who lie eighth in the Bundesliga table, on Tuesday to finalise terms. Babel joined Liverpool for around 10 million pounds ($15.99 million) from Ajax Amsterdam in 2007 weeks after helping the Netherlands win the Under-21 European championship with his pace and direct running.
But despite showing occasional flashes of his ability he has been unable to establish a place in the Liverpool first team and was fined by the club for posting on Twitter his frustration at not being selected.
He fell foul of Twitter again when he was fined 10,000 pounds last week after posting a doctored picture of referee Howard Webb wearing a Manchester United shirt following Liverpool's FA Cup defeat at Old Trafford.

Wasn't Dalglish just saying today he would be staying?

 Yes. Asked about Babel's future on Monday, Dalglish said: "He is staying here."

Appears Dalglish maybe isn't really in charge.

Yes he was ruined, he somehow lost the footballing brain and awareness he had whilst playing for Liverpool. I crapped myself when Liverpool purchased him, he had all the hall marks of Thierry Henry and then some at a similar age. Thank god for Rafa is all I can say.

Had a look on Liverpool supporters site and they are trying to brush this under the carpet as some sort of masterstroke from Dalglish though it does make you wonder what's going on.

Nani cost us 14mil, which was as stated in his contract release clause. I believe Babel was about the same. He did come from Ajax with some hype, and was supposed to be the next big thing in Dutch football. I always felt that Benitez isn't the best manager to bring out the best in a young developing player, and maybe by the time Hodgson took over, he had lost heart about making it at the club.

Sanchez will probably cost close to twice that you paid for Babel.
