Liverpool after Ryan Babel

Benitez has a fantastic record in the transfer market - Alonso, Sissoko, Agger, Reina, Maschereno etc. The only comedian here is you who doesn't have the facts.

Benitez has never brought a world class player to Anfield. Not once. If you're happy with Morientes, Bellamy, Gonzalez, Josemi, Aurelio, Sissoko, Pennant and the countless other wankers, then so be it.
Where as the ones you have stated have been good siginings, not one has set the Premiership alight - we will have to see whether Torres justifies any of this hype.

Oh, and if you want, we can go through all the clangers in Alex Ferguson's record

I think you'll find his transfer record his absolutely outstanding when you take the 3 or so players that we signed a few years ago out of the equation. At least we went after a world class player when we got Veron, even though it didn't work out.

Liverpool need to complete the signing of Ajax forward Ryan Babel by the end of the weekend, according to agent Winnie Haatrecht. But the Dutch club insist the value of their rising star is £2million more than Liverpool are willing to offer.

Ajax have slapped a £13.5million price tag on Babel and the Reds have only offered £11.5million for the 20-year-old, whose representative is eager for a swift end to the ongoing transfer talks.

'We have told them what we want, and that's €20million (£13.5m). That is our price,' Van Geel said.

Looks a good signing for the Scousers. It will be interesting to compare his progress vis-a-vis Nani.

Babel's crazy. He's on twitter all bloody day long!

Was quite interesting to see him and Kaka chatting on twitter half hour back

What the hell does Babel have to say to Kaka and vice versa?

He's been shite for his entire time at the club. £7m is great money for an unmitigated flop.

He was always capable of little moments of brilliance, but it was far too rare.

I genuinely thought he was going to be a great player for liverpool after watching him for the dutch u21s. Now I can't believe Pool are getting 7m for him.

Think he's capable of a moment of magic.

I think Benitez ruined him TBH. Benitez doesn't like players like Babel who'll do something different. He likes his players to be very tactically aware and rigid in the way they play. Just the wrong signing for Benitez IMO.

Didn't really see what people saw in him back then, he won Golden Ball at the u21's but he didn't look that good. He wasn't significantly better than Rigters at the tournament, and even then he didn't look much cop.

Still not really sure I see it. Quick and a very decent strike but he doesn't seem like a player packed full of potential or ability.

Well he did cost them what, same as Nani?

Still young enough to progress elsewhere.

Cold Boy: You should wiki Hoffenheim. Very interesting club.

He was decent in his first season. When every Scouser looked for him to push on, Rafa decided to keep dropping him...

49 games, 10 goals in his first season - a very good total for a young winger making his debut in a foreign league.

Even though he is rather rubbish, that leaves Liverpool with Kuyt as the only "genuinely wide" player in the team! And Liverpool must now have the slowest midfield in the league.

I don't understand how this guy was never given more minutes than the shitty likes of Maxi Rodriguez

Maxi can do a little thing called 'pass-and-move'.

Babel does 'run and shoot' only.

When he went to Liverpool he was a wide forward who didnt score often or cross the ball well.

After all his time at Liverpool he leaves for Hoffenheim as a wide forward who doesnt score often or cross the ball well.
