Liverpool after Ryan Babel

Would rather he went to Liverpool than to Arsenal ... course this is probably just paper talk so they build a competition between the two clubs since Arsenal's supposed interest hasn't given them anything lately

how many strikers have played under benitez??

Cisse, Fowler, Morientes, Crouch, Sinama Pongolle, Owen, Baros....

how many wingers?

Arellio, Gonzalez, Luis Garcia, Jermain Pennant, Smicer, Zenden (to hilarious effect) Riise, Gerrard,

Benitez is a comedian in the transfer market. They'll simply to continue to fail, consistantly, it's what liverpool are good at.

Would have been interesting if Liverpool had signed both Torres and Forlan or something.

I'll be happy enough if they are relying on Torres' goals.

Henry-lite, well... "supposedly"

...would be a lot more worried if Livershite were linked with Tevez o wait ahaa

1. he's said recently he's going nowhere this summer

2. he's said recently that he'll probably be at the arse in a couple of years

Liverpool have made an offer for Ryan Babel, according to the Ajax forward's agent.

The youngster impressed for Holland at the recent European Under 21 Championship and has been strongly linked with Arsenal.

Babel has admitted he envisages playing for the Gunners at some stage in his career, but cast doubt on a summer move to Emirates Stadium.

However, he could now have the option of a transfer to Liverpool after Babel's agent Winnie Haatrecht revealed the UEFA Champions League finalists' interest.

"I won't say anything about the amounts currently mentioned, however I can confirm Ajax have received an official bid from Liverpool," Haatrecht told Dutch magazine Sportweek.

"Ryan has not spoken with the club.

"Only if Ajax tell us they have an agreement, and state we can talk, will phase two begin.

"In that phase you will look at what Liverpool want, what their plans are with Babel.

"After that, the financial part will come, but it's not that far.

"First, we have to wait for both clubs to get a deal."

 He's average, I hope this happens! Buy him Liverpool... please.

Scored 5 or something like that in our league.... Like Ronaldo, v. Persie and co, he can improve, but he hasn't got the same potential/talent. He will become a good player max. I always have to laugh when my ajax supporting friends with their shiny season tickets get pissed off at him after a game.

They're buzzing on the ajax forums:

"20 miljoen ! Grote goden! Moet ik hem soms op de fiets wegbrengen ? Geen probleem....."

"20 million! Good gods, should I bring him with my bike. No problem..."

Nearly every single one of them can't believe their luck. http://ajax.netwerk.to/forums/HTML/forum11/3367-26.php

Van Geel (their technical director) has confirmed the bid is higher than 14 million euros... this is fantastic.

"Nee je bent niet de enige. Persoonlijk was ik al heel blij met de 10 miljoen vanochtend op TT, maar als Ajax meer dan 15 miljoen weet te krijgen... Wow."

"No you're not the only one (who's happy - he's replying to some other cnut laughing). Personally, I was already quite happy with the 10 million quoted on TT this morning, but if Ajax can get more than 15 million... Wow."

Yeah, it is offical, his Agent has comfirmed it. Would be a decent signing, but I think from interviews from Babel he is really set his heart on a move to Arsenal.

the guy can play as a winger or supporting striker.. great pace some trickery... but finishing very poor

The first four were wingers good buys for what was paid for them apart from Gonzalez who didn't cost much. Zenden was a free transfer. Riise and Gerrard weren't Benitez buys. The only two strikers from your list that Benitez bought were Crouch and Morrientes. Crouch was a good buy for 7 million. He just got unlucky with Morrientes who couldn't adapt to the premiership but we did not lose too much on him anyway.

Benitez has a fantastic record in the transfer market - Alonso, Sissoko, Agger, Reina, Maschereno etc. The only comedian here is you who doesn't have the facts. Oh, and if you want, we can go through all the clangers in Alex Ferguson's record - Lets start with Veron for 38 million. You are just lucky that the idiots at Stamford bridge baled you out of that one, to some extent by giving you 15 million for him to cut your losses.

It's supposed to be 6.75 million GBP possibly rising to 10 million depending on appearances and other stuff etc. Doesn't sound too bad to me...

Got anymore quotes?

If they buy Babel they will be strengthening their squad quite well.

He is a great prospect and would be an excellent move for Liverpool to get him.

Lets start with correct transfer free - Veron was £28 MILLION

Has just passed a medial at Anfield and is waiting on a fee to be reached.

Good Signing for the bin dippers.

So far we've bought two, and sold three. In total we'll bring in four players (excluding youth players), that's one more than Utd, and Utd haven't sold like we have.

I think he was being sarcastic when he said that....

I'd honestly not heard too much about him until the Under 21 championship and didn't even see that much of him there.

I hope he can come in and play straight away and make an impact on the left wing otherwise I'll be pissed off.

I'm still not convinced were paying 13.5 million for him but if we are it seems an awful lot.

Then again if you look at the Walcott and Ashley Young prices its comparable. At least Babel has made an impact on a senior international level aswell.

Ryan Babel, the Ajax and Dutch 20 year old winger has today passed a medical with Liverpool FC. The player arrived in the city late last night and undertook his medical at Melwood today.

Liverpool are expected to complete the deal for the player before the end of the week.

The reds are expected to pay around £8 million up front in a deal worth a potential £12 million dependant on appearances and bonuses.

That sounds better. 8 million up front. Not a bad price at all.
