We lost Coutinho in January if you remember, so a limited squad anyway became even more limited. I fully agree that the league, at times, did take a back seat to progressing in the CL, but it was more to do with team selections rather than fatigue, which was the point I was trying to make.

I'm not saying that you are bound to get tired. It's an open question for me whether you can sustain a proper challenge both in the EPL and the CL. You have options in midfiled but you seem very dependent on several players, especially VVD and Salah.

Salah has scored/assisted every 76 min in the league since the start of last season. By comparison, Mane and Firmino have done it every 140 min or thereabouts. In contrast, Aguero - every 75 min, Sterling - every 85 min, Sane - every 87 min, Jesus every 108 min. That is, City seem less reliant on particular attackers and defenders.

You have a proper chance to compete but everything should go your way, in particular VVD and Salah to stay injury free all season.

I wouldn't disagree with that. City are far more stronger in squad/quality depth. We certainly need our luck to continue if we're in with any chance of doing something this season.

Jose didn't set anything up. He just put all the players in that still talk to him. Klopp didn't need to make this into a tactical master plan. He just needed to put 11 players out and play Utd at their normal game.
I get it you lot are excited about beating us as it hasn't happened alot lately, but please don't make this into how great Liverpool were. We were crap.

He had a plan. To say he didn't is ridiculous. Only in schoolyards you don't have a plan.

Klopp changed the positioning of Firmino and Salah. Firmino was playing in midfield, making it a four. Salah was playing central and dragging defenders towards him. There was some confusion in the United midfield on who to pick up between the lines. This confusion left spaces for Fabinho to operate in and make the killer passes.
Jose added Fellaini to stop Fabinho from making the passes. It worked for a while, but then we added Shaq to the attack.

Last season, Klopp wasn't as flexible with the system.

Of course.

It's going to take an exceptional manager to take you to where you want to be, especially considering the strength of the other teams in the PL. The pressure & the expectation at Old Trafford must be tremendous. Poor old David Moyes aged about 10 years in 6 months. Then the 2 successful, experienced managers who followed him (LVG & Jose) both looked like they were ready to be shipped off to the funny farm at the end. It was always going to be the case though. For every major trophy Ferguson won he made it even harder for anyone to follow in his footsteps. So all things considered - strength of the opposition & Ferguson's legacy - I seriously doubt there'll be a quick fix available for your club. The fact that you yourself seem to think a new guy will have you back up there in no time fighting it out for the only 2 trophies the top clubs really want to win would only emphasize my point about the great expectations that exist within Manchester United fanbase.

Where did I say a new guy will have us back up there in no time?

Ahead of Mendy and Alonso?

I think so, yeah.

I think he sets the tone of the team set up too. I'd go so far as I'd be looking to get at him by turning the fecker around after blocking his space up in front.

Put more simply & back to 3 days ago, I'd shove Lukaku across there & hit 55 yard diagonals at him.

We move on though, it would seem, :D.

the league is going right down to the wire. no team is gunna win it comfortably. also klopp is a very good manager... up there with pep in terms of buys, improving players, organization, preparation, etc. and with playes like fabinho, Keïta, & shaqiri added to the squad this could be their season.

also i think pep was mocking mourinho before the match by saying it will be an interesting game... meaning he expected a very 1 sided game. a liverpool win.

Klopp did it in 2 years. Pep in one year. All it needs is the right mentality .

The pressure of expectation at Liverpool & City was/is nowhere near the level of that at Manchester United, where one man (Ferguson) had pretty much ruled English football for 2 decades. That was my point. & the fact that those 2 managers have done so well, along with the likes of Chelsea, Spurs, & Arsenal, being formidable opponents, it doesn't matter who United bring in, it'll be a massive task for anyone to get Manchester United back to being regular challengers for the PL & CL. It isn't just about what United do, or don't do, in the future, because there are many other variables that are simply out of your control in that respect. Some are tangible, some are not. Such as that weight of expectation I spoke about. That is something you simply can't legislate for, & you can't really fix it, for it's become a part of the fabric of your club. I'm a Liverpool supporter. I've witnessed it first hand at my club. You're desperate to move forward & get back to those glory days you enjoyed so much, but there's something that holds you back & you can't quite work out what it is. You blame the manager, players, owners etc, but with the passing of time comes reality & reflection. That's just my opinion of course. I could be wrong & you could be up there in the next season or two blowing everyone away. But the respective histories of Manchester United & Liverpool show a lot of remarkable similarities. At this moment in time I see United going through a similar phase that we went through after our dominant period.

We all think Robertson is a great player - if we have any sense, anyway.

Moreno was a failed Robertson project isn't it? There's definite similarities in style in there somewhere. Am I wrong?

Lovren said they can go unbeaten till the end of the season.
Bless him, every time he opens his mouth he needs to eat his words later.

He gets a few starts and again he's running his mouth. Just STFU.

Not sure what people expected him to say when the interviewer literally asked him a loaded question?

'No, Wolves will bash us 6-0'.

I feel like there's a good middle-ground between what he said and "we're going to get battered."

Here's what he said (from BBC):

"Hopefully we can be unbeaten until the end of the season. That is why we came to Liverpool. Arsenal did it before so why not? Of course it will be a challenge but this is what we want. We know we can do it."

Could have just as easily said something like, "There's a long way to go, but we're playing well and feel good going into every game." It's exactly the sort of stock, non-committal answer you should give to any questions about remaining unbeaten. He's going to look a right pillock if he's in any way culpable for you losing a game. You'd think he'd have learnt his lesson after that comment he aimed at Ramos in the Nations League.

Pool really got lucky with klopp, no other manager would have made pool this good. Others would need more money or play a different brand. He made dortmund 2.0 However let's wait and see if the team will go bust just like dortumund did after a while. However he did loose some players at borrusia year after year.

Had a dig at England before we knocked them out as well.

He's a cocky little shit and nowhere near good enough to back it up.

I'd much rather him just saying they are all just focused on winning the next game and thats it. Everytime he opens his mouth and acts billy big bollocks the universe tends to serve up a nice big dish of Karma pretty sharpish.

I am no fan of Lovren and would be happy if he never spoke to the press again, about anything, ever. But 'hopefully we can go unbeaten' is pretty harmless stuff. I imagine every player in the league 'hopes' their team will go unbeaten for the rest of the season.

If he'd ended it there it wouldn't have been as bad, it was the "we know we can do it" bit that stood out especially. It'd be just like him to score an own goal that costs you 3 points at Wolves now.

Lovren's already fecked us over by saying we can go all season unbeaten.

I'm expecting a defeat tomorrow now.

His comments worked out really well for him and Croatia in the Nations League.

Literally every time he's said something like this he's followed it up with a nightmare performance.

too much money in england to go bust. he's raking in the money. he's a manager version of a blockbuster movie.

I'm expecting a howler from him as well. He needs to shut up and concentrate on his game. Annoying player.

Players talk shite all the time. If Liverpool lose in one of the next games, it will be because they were outplayed, unlucky or made a silly mistake.

Imagine that Liverpool go unbeaten this season but finish 2nd on say 95 pts. Does not look impossible right now.

Yeah, Liverpool's performance tomorrow has absolutely feck all to do with Lovren answering an interview question. People will find anything to moan about.

Everyone has a plan. If my pub team were playing Liverpool in the FA cup, i would instruct them to do certain things. My point was Klopp didn't need to show he is "flexible" in this fixture. Even if he played his usual formation, you lot would still have battered us.
Please read my original post, Mourhino only picked the players he was talking to (Not the best players) and was waiting to be sacked, which he got 48 hrs later.
Finally you lot played well. Please get over it now.

He's got previous though. He usually follows up a comment like that with a shocking performance.

I'm sure he had shocking performances without talking shite prior to the games. It's Lovren, good in some games and poor in others.

Maybe he's thinking shite before bad games too.

wolves are 7th (7th sorry), they'll attack and liverpool will beat them on the counter. overconfidence will have them thinking they can bomb men forwards and go toe to toe. shaqiri will probably get another goal aswell.

Kinda misleading. He has been spending money which he got from selling players. His net spend in 7 transfer windows is about 140 millions, that just 20 million every window.

To be honest, most Liverpool fans were angry with the owners for selling Coutinho. The feeling was the owners were in just for the money, if they didn't buy VVD and Allison, there would have been heavy criticism. The money was there from the player sales and the Champions league run to final and the TV money, they to show some intention.

Maybe as a Liverpool fan you could actually check the facts before you have a dig at one of our players, he didn't say we can go unbeaten all season, his actual words were "Hopefully we can be unbeaten until the end of the season," and personally i see nothing wrong with that at all.

bull. he would have gotten big money regardless. if rodgers had he stayed on he would have gotten nothong.... only allowed to spend a maximum of 5 to 10 million on a player. the big money spending is faith in klopp to take them forwards

and the massive spending probably isn't over yet.

irrespective of player sales thwy are allowing klopp to spend huge because they are confident of revenue in return.

I agree to a point. But there is no way they would have let Klopp spend 150m on two players if they hadn't sold Couthino.

The £75m we paid for VVD was available before Coutinho left, we bid for VVD the previous summer.
