Liverpool - 2017/18

We defended fine today for the majority. You can't legislate for that Wanyama goal - 9/10 it balloons over. Apart from that, Spurs created very little.

I agree with Infordin that midfield is an issue.
I'm going on more about the way you left a spurs player completely alone -twice in 5 minutes- on the left wing(second time lead to wanyama's goal. There's also something to be said for Can and AOC positioning at the edge of the box), or VVD and Lovren allowing Lamela to get between them for a loose ball

It's clear to see their main problem is the goalkeeper, Klopp doesn't trust either of them hence the interchanging. We did that with De Gea and Lindegaard when SAF was still here, it just doesn't work.

That Karius is shocking though, he's nowhere near good enough to be a Premier League goalkeeper.

I'm pretty sure Klopp said Karius will be #1 for the rest of the season. Having said that, a new GK should also be a priority in the summer.

Neither of those scenarios lead to clear goal scoring opportunities.

They ran themselves ragged today closing down passing angles and pressing Spurs, but seemed to run out of gas and Tottenham dominated there on.

Just looked at the stats and it says they gave away 15 fouls. Felt like more tbh. The High press turned into constant fouling to stop any counter attacks which go unpunished by the ref. Jose said Man City get away with it but Liverpool do as well.

Amazing finish to the game though. Crazy drama.

Thank feck I had the nouse to throw a few quid on Spurs draw or win at 9/4 around about the 50th minute .

Only seen the goals . This is why it does my head in seeing modern keepers punch the ball put. Great goal by the way.

No. I didn't say you take a bet. I said you take a challenge.

Come on, are you brave or not?

You seem 100 percent sure that Salah won't leave this summer.

Ok . I'll challenge you.

If Salah goes I'll take a three month ban. If he stays you take a six month one ?

What do you reckon on that la ?

It was the wrong side and we were wasteful to boot. If we went Can Gini Ox and attacked them from the off there's more than a decent probability the game would have been over by 60.
As it was we only got the 1 and that's never enough for us and we gassed. We brought it on ourselves but the worst part is we have no depth, I can see many a game panning out similar.

It's so amazing how my colleague just twisted his mind about the whole thing being photoshopped when I showed the clip of VVD hacking Lamela with the same angle the assistant ref had. He was honestly genuine, I'm really worried. When bitterness and conspiracies shut down your brain, it's time to stop watching football.

I wouldn’t really blame the keeper on that tbh. He put it as far as he could. Can’t really expect WANyama to shoot like that

I think 'pool could be strong next season, Keita is an upgrade on anything they have in midfield and will being protection to the defence as well as being a decent forward passer he should do well, surely they will upgrade one of the 'keepers and if they can get a strong tackling center mid to complement Keita they'll have a cracking base so I think they could do very well. They've now 4 or 5 players who could probably get into most other top 6 teams pretty easily

So you're saying next year is their year?

Hopefully Salah might go though & Lovren keep getting picked, :).

If this, if that, until they actually make these required signings, they are no threat whatsoever, as they always have been in the Premier League years to us.

They look like a tired team, unable to maintain the press over long periods now.

If they can keep Lallana fit and add more players in the summer then I think they'll be a force next season.

We currently sit ahead of them in the table but as a team and tactically they are far ahead of us. On their day they play football we haven't managed in years. It's hard to accept this obviously, but when I look at it objectively then this is how I see it. They have put teams to the sword this season that have played us off the park. Their issue is consistency and squad depth. Things I expect they will try to sort out this summer.

They've forgot about the countless penalties they got in the 2013/14 season, Including a Sturridge dive against us as well.

Lallana??!! :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

So much that is just so very wrong with that post, quite how they are tactically ahead of us in any way whatsoever???!!!

They are no where near us, they have one singular half decent player in Salah, and literally no else of any decent standard, so not sure how anyone could say that they are close to us in any way.

I understand the Utd Liverpool rivalry, but this??:nono:

First. Thats excessive use of smilies.

Second. I think we're closer than you think, we lack consistency. That's it.

Granted getting that consistency is probably the hardest thing to do in football, and it isn't achieved so simply, there's a lot of moving parts to the puzzle.
But on face value, yes. We just lack consistency.

Manchester United on the other hand do have consistency. But are lacking something else, that flair, exciting, ruthlessness that we have.

This season we're not that far behind at all.

(cue Loss to Southampton )

Why apart from Salah, who is else is considered a half decent player? Firmino? Mane? Mingolet? Milner? Lovren? Ings?

Sorry, but their squad is packed full of below average players, and are solely reliant on Salah, without him they would be in serious trouble.

Do you get extra bonus points for "flair"? Personally I would take three points each and every time, over playing with flair but only drawing games.

Where was this so called flair anyway against Swansea and West Brom??

Liverpool are a fair distance behind us both on and off the pitch, take Salah away and you are left with a very ordinary set of players.

Also in terms of ruthlessness, I think Sanchez adds that part to our game, so you are wrong there.

The problem with this sort of view point is that it makes it impossible to explain why they on your coat tails in the league....unless you believe Salah is a Messi/Ronaldo/ Pele hybrid

You feel more confident playing at Old Trafford (where you have a terrible record) than at Anfield?

You’ve been abysmal in away games against the top 6 this season too shipping 12 goals in 3 games.

I can see the point of view for feeling like this if you think about it. Last 2 seasons United have come to Anfield, shut up shop and got 2 draws.

At Old Trafford, with the onus on you to attack, and naturally having more of the ball, the game will be much more open, which will actually give us a better chance of winning by hitting you on the counter than at Anfield where you give us no space. Kinda like last season in that having gone in front we wasted a few opportunities on the counter to finish you off in the 2nd half.

Goes without saying that United will also have a higher chance of winning the game than at Anfield.

As long as we stop Salah, then not too sure what other threats there are for us to really be overly concerned about, it would be very disappointing to not come away with the full three points from this match.

By all means you should be confident of winning, but there's still Mane and Firmino, maybe 1 of Lallana or Oxlade-Chamberlain. A random set piece or a Pogba handball. Anything can happen in a game.

It would be foolish to dismiss us as just stop Salah and you win, and 1 thing Jose isn't is a fool, as shown by his setups at Anfield.

I never get why fans can never contemplate defeat in a game, especially in a top 6 game. Both United and Liverpool this season have proven they can lose and drop points to poor teams, let alone against each other.

What? :wenger:

If as a team and tactically they are far ahead of us, what are they doing so far behind in the league table?

Who have they put the the sword who played us off the park? You're referring only to that 4-3 win over City? City only beat us because of Lukaku's 2 assists, played us off the park they did not.

Firmino 19 goals - 10 assists hmmm average

Mane having a poor season compared to last but still mustering 9 goals - 6 assists his quality is evident when he's at it, but no...hmm average

Lets forget about Robertson at LB who's been absolutely brilliant since replacing Moreno shal we, hmm average

Lets forget about VVD's arrival, forget his price tag, off forums, in the real world, no one has doubted his quality as a CB, But no hmm average

TAA at RB has been getting a lot of plaudits as the new up and coming youngster, especially by the experts, but no hmm average

I agree that our squad is full of a lot of average players but I'm sorry, to suggest we have nothing to offer other than Salah is just typical of the kind of people you get when online, not in the real world

They have Coutinho to thank for a fair chunk of points before he left, now that he has gone, they have not exactly been on fire picking up points have they?

Salah is their main threat, with Firmino a bit behind in second place, but after that it really is slim pickings.

Yes any one player on their day could cause damage to any team, but in general terms, it really is just Salah that is the big and main threat, subdue him, and you take away a huge threat from them, and make it a lot easier to beat them.
