Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

Can't see you getting anything at the Boleyn and a point at Swansea would be good. If you got 2 based on your current form you'd be doing well, 3/4 would be a result, 6 a fking miracle.

That could make life a bit easier.

Our away results, if not performances, haven't been disastrous as of late. No defeats since City away on 1st November and we've been to Arsenal, Spurs, Southampton and Stoke in that run. I think we'll probably get 3/4.

What do you think of the player?

Hard to say right now. I liked him for Real Sociedad and he impressed for Spain in the u21 Euros. Since he's moved to Real Madrid though he's barely played and when he does play he doesn't do much. He needs a move but he's not worth the big money they'd probably want.

Cheers. €24m was the money being quoted.

Thigh injury
Loving Suarez making Rodgers tactics look passable. And Suarez making Sterling look world class, and Suarez latching on to Coutinhos passes. And of course Suarez making Sturridge look better than he would be without SAS.

If Suarez left we would be totally fecked. Right?

You've served up some right dogs shit.
Where the feck were you then ? Invisible man.

Don't give him the attention, he craves it like a baby on milk.

You've been utter shite (without Suarez) and you as a poster went missing.

I went missing? I thought we had some right ding dongs all season. You sure it wasn't you who went on holiday or something? I never go missing, nearly everyone here wishes I did since 2002.

You did a bunk during the opening of the season, all scouse posters did to be fair.

When we beat Southampton and Spurs in a row? Seriously, I think you're tired or drunk, or both. Try again from work tomorrow.

Rodgers has done well in shoring up the defence while managing to get some fluidity back to their game. They should be fine with Sturridge back. Last season was an anomaly. Defensively they were okay up to Christmas. Things changed after with individual feck ups and towards the end of the season they just had to go for the wins.

Doesn't every team 'go for the win'?

This season they lost their star player and their main striker was injured. Rodgers tried to play the same way because that is his style but he continued to neglect defence. Last season they had almost everything work for them, players all firing at the same time.

That doesn't just happen by coincidence.

Rodgers didn't try to play the same way as last season at the start of this one. It was the exact opposite, if anything. We were slow and lacking creativity. A return to a higher intensity, attacking style of play has been the key factor in our recent form.

El Confidencial saying we want to sign Illaramendi in the summer. Not sure how credible they are. @Vato @Bob Loblaw
Don't rate him at all tbh. He's had a few ok games but never really showed he could replace Alonso. I can only remember one great performance since he joined, which says enough.

If we can recoup the money we've spent on him I think Perez would bite your hand off.

As far of the rumour, I think there might be some truth to it seeing as we have signed that Lucas Silva chap, who's apparently a very decent DM.

Surprised @Barney hasn't already posted it but Coutinho has agreed to sign a new 5 year contract. Delighted with that, player of the season for us so far.

Was talking about it in the twitter thread and was about to post it.

Yeah, I'm delighted with that. He's been fantastic. Wanted to keep him more than Sterling simply because Coutinho is so enjoyable to watch.

Ings apparently wants to join us so I reckon that will happen in the summer.

Aye just noticed it in the twitter thread, don't look in there often. Great news, I wasn't as worried about him going* as you were but still nice to tie him down anyway.

He's only going to be on 70k a week now. He should find a new agent.

Really happy with Coutinho signing up. Such a joy to watch him twisting and turning, laying off outstanding balls. Shame he can't finish (yet, it will come).

Pete, Santi won't be on 70k for much longer. When is he getting his contract upgraded? Surely his agent will be on the phone after the way he's been playing.

Ozil and Sanchez are on about £150K. Santi got a big wage uplift when he came from Spain, he's turned the Silva-Mata-Cazorla hierarchy on its head in recent weeks but he was struggling for form in the early part of the season which didn't help, given our raft of injuries.

Any other Liverpool (or otherwise) fans have any thoughts on where we go from here in terms of formation? The one we're using now has been working well but I can't help thinking it was/is a temporary solution with Sturridge out.

I'd like to see Can back in midfield, but maybe a change in formation and our defence collapses again...

Don't change what isn't broken especially before a run of important matches. I eventually see Markovic being replaced by a right back (meaning he moves further forward) and Can stepping into midfield.

Eventually in a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 I would like to see:

Mignolet; Manquillo, Skrtel, Sakho, Moreno; Can, Henderson, Coutinho; Markovic, Sturridge, Sterling.

Teams are unable to break down the 3-4-2-1 system including Chelsea, with Hazard and Costa, despite Mourinho "seeing" our flanks were wide open for exploitation, etc. If Chelsea with those players struggled then stick with it until someone does find a (real) flaw.

If anything the 3-4-2-1 is even more potent now that Sterling can drop back with Coutinho and Sturridge takes his rightful place as the finisher/target man. And Ibe taking Moreno's spot for ultimate power ranger speed and force. :D

I could see us switching to a diamond at some point. Lucas holding in front of two of Henderson/Can/Gerrard, Coutinho at the tip of it, with sterling and sturridge up front. Maybe even Lallana for one of the midfield roles when we want extra attacking options.

Arguably, it'd be odd management to start playing with a formation that currently sees Liverpool on top of the form table. I'm not suggesting it can't be adjusted but the value in keeping a stable side and system appears to be reaping its own rewards right now. That said, the diamond was utilised very well last season when we had real options up front.

In any case, I think Sturridge's arrival in the team should be tempered to some extent. While I think his return was superb on Saturday, it may have offered a false sense of where he actually is in terms of match fitness and sharpness. Hope not though as he could be explosive these next few games where we need him most.

I think we'll see the return of the diamond next season. Sterling is much better playing in deeper positions and I'd try and utilise him from these positions as much as possible. He's still a very good striker, but I'd only be using him there if Sturridge is unavailable.
