Everyone always seems to focus on these big graphical showcase shooters, but I'm personally getting sick of them, it's just the same thing reworked over and over, totally saturated, how many of them do you need?

This for me could have the Lemmings effect, and I hope it does, because it's pure genius, and I wish that I had thought of it.

I hated Lemmings, couldn't ever get past the first level:mad:

But this game does look good, and like you said, it is something different from what seems to be around at the moment.

Its an interesting concept, I remember being really impressed with it in the last E3.

In a way its good they delayed its release, would of clashed with MGS4.

I remember watching videos of this game when i didn't have a PS3 and was quite disappointed because it looked awesome. Happy days i now have one though.

I agree that these shooters are getting boring and repetitive. How many more are we gonna get where some random alien/zombie race are trying to take over the world?

So it's a platform game, where you can design your own levels... Is there much more to it than that?

Portal is probably the most innovative thing I've played for a while, just a shame it was so short. Think there's a sequel on the way though.

By Justin PinterMedia Molecule: LBP reveal that people "don't see coming"
Posted on August 5th, 2008 at 00:18 EDT
Media Molecule's Alex Evans has told Eurogamer.net that LittleBigPlanet has at least one more trick up its sleeve that will surprise the masses.

"I really want to be able to do another [Game Developer Conference 2007] reveal," said Evans. "A lot of people say to me that when we first did that Sony GDC reveal of LittleBigPlanet, that was a big shock - people didn't see it coming. I want to do another LittleBigPlanet reveal that people don't see coming."

"It's still LittleBigPlanet, but people will be saying, 'I thought it was this - now you're telling me it's this as well?!' That excites me hugely."

What could this new reveal be? One of our guesses is the introduction of water (and perhaps even entire underwater stages). Who knows though? Other than the team at Media Molecule, nobody, but we hope to find out soon enough.

LittleBigPlanet is due out on the PlayStation 3 this October

What could it be?

It'll be a big hit with games journalists and hardcore gamers but I can't see it being a commercial success. What percentage of the PS3 userbase will want to play a 2D platformer? Or design their own levels?

it's an innovative concept but saying that i don't know if it really appeals to me. I'll probably get it but i'll either adore it or be trading it in a week later.

It has been hyped beyond belief so it should sell well, unfortunately though I doubt very much that many of the people buying it will actually get to it's depth and make anything worth while for others to play.

There'll be plenty of shit levels to trawl through too, but It'll be worth it because there's some creative feckers out there who will come up with some genius shit.

This will be high up on my list (alongside Flower) for when I get a PS3.

The major thing that PS3 does have going for it over the XB360 is the internal Sony studios (they are some of the very best) and the 2nd party funded ones. They can churn out far more than Microsoft has to pay a lot of money for or rely on Rare for.

Disney Joins LittleBigPlanet Mania?

If you hadn't noticed, LittleBigPlanet mania has spread throughout the gaming world (much to Sony's delight, we're sure). Nobody was shocked to see it pop up at the fifth annual Penny Arcade Expo on Labor Day weekend, and as one NeoGAF attendee discovered, Sony and Disney may make for an all-star duo when it comes to new content for LBP.

As you can see by this post over at the NeoGAF forums, it seems the PR representative showing off LBP at PAX dropped an interesting little tidbit of info: Disney will join the cascade of new content that's guaranteed to arrive for Media Molecule's promising co-op platformer. Oh yes, that's right; Mickeys and Donalds running around, Goofy dragging over a big ol' block so Pluto can jump up, etc, etc, etc. Considering the sheer amount of freedom in terms of customization, this may only be the beginning...how many other companies out there will want their lovable mascots bouncing around LittleBigPlanet? What about superheroes? You know, get Marvel and DC in there. Or how about real-life celebrities from the movie and music industries? The licensing involved in the special content could be absolutely out of control, but neither Sony or players are likely to complain.

Oh, and it seems we can expect InFamous in 2009, too, but that's not a big surprise. It's Disney sinking its far-reaching claws into LittleBigPlanet that caught our attention, so thanks to the NeoGAF crew for checking out PAX. However, in response to the defense of the standard NeoGAF stigma that the forum is full of fanboys and elitists...well, in some ways, that stigma is well deserved. Just admit it, guys. What you meant to say is that not all members are like that, right? ;)

That'd be great if true, can't wait for this game!

what drives me nuts about the big AAA shooters is that seems to try to brainwash the gaming community inot thinking that the only 3 colors on the pallet worth using is brown and grey so LBP is a welcome change.

I'm not understanding the fuss behind this game. Is all because you can design your own levels? There must be more to the hype than that? Why the feck would I want to spend ages designing my own levels?

This is what im thinking, I still cant understand why people are getting their cocks out at this game.

You can leave the level designing to everyone else and just download their levels ;)

100,000s of players potentially equals 100,000s of levels, so you'll never be short of new ones to play.

Yes but I imagine after the first few dozen the rest will all be pretty similar anyway. And why in gods name would I want to play thousands of new levels because the actual game doesn't look all that exciting. I imagine I would probably get bored of mass effect if it had a 1000 levels and that is one of the best games I have ever played. I really am struggling to understand the hype

this is what concerns me.

Things i like in games are a sense of progression (powering up, experience, new moves, weapons etc) I don't see that here.

It will be a million variations of jump move, jump move.

Ratchett and Clank combines platform with shooting and puzzles in the best way.

I can see this game being popular and for the creative types, it will be great fun. Just don't think I will be buying it as it won't have the complexity I like.

Designing your own stuff is so much fun. You put in tons of work and then you play it. What is cooler than that?

I still make/modify maps for Heroes of Might and Magic III.

Yes, but the level designing wasn;t the main theme of Heroes of Might and Magic, it was just an added bonus. Same with Civilization or AoE etc. I really can't understand why everyone is raving about this game, what else is so special about it?

Well, the characters have really cute little heads. :nervous:
