Listen to 1000 albums.

Decent - not heard it before.
It is more a retrospective of his entire career rather than an album so maybe a bit long to listen to all of it in one sitting.

Bill Fay - Time Of The Last Persecution
[/URL]

Actually quite liked it but not sure I would go out of my way to listen to again as I have better examples of the same type of thing.

Mercury Rev - See You On The Other Side

Know bits of their stuff but not this album - I remember Deserters Songs being massive at the time.
they are the sort of band that i like certain tracks rather than full album thats why I prefer to listen to Stillness Breathes.

I completely disagree, this is by far my favourite Lambchop album. But my personal history with them is turbulent. I gave them a go many years ago, but was quite disappointed. So I had written them off until a friend of mine put on International (from this album) when he stayed at my place, both of us hung over, tired and sleepy. It was love at first listen. So later on I bought the album and realized it's as good as that very song. But I still haven't got into any other Lambchop album. But, to be fair, I haven't really had a proper go at the other ones. This just is my Lambchop album. This album IS Lambchop to me. It's a weird thing. I love it and should therefor want to explore more, but with some bands I find an album and sort of think "this is it, I don't need to hear more". (I really enjoyed Kid A and Amnesiac, but in an odd way they killed Radiohead for me. I have no longer any interest in listening to more of Radiohead or Thom Yorke's music. I just instantly knew they peaked with those two. Even if I don't really know.) I can't explain it, and it's probably silly.

So in short: You might be right, I've no idea, but I completely disagree nonetheless!

I see what you mean, but they are a band whose records are not greatly different. If you like this you'll like the others. It'll be like they recorded more tracks for this album.

I saw Lambchop live supporting Yo La Tengo in New York's City Hall ten years ago - My mother won a holiday to NYC, took me with her and I made us go in February just to see that concert. It was fantastic, by the way. I also saw them at the Bridgewater Hall here in Manchester in 2002 and they were very good then, too.

Faith No More Didn't expect to like this, but it was alright. Faded a fair bit towards the end, and sounded very dated at certain points, but aside fromt hat very enjoyable.

T-Rex Not for me at all. There's a nice sound to it, but it basically just keeps that up the whole album, when my mind drifted I didn't even notice a new track had started. The Dock of the Bay cover was shocking too.

It seems a few are trying to 'out obscure' others with their selections and if I'm being honest, I'm completely under-whelmed.

There is definitely a fair bit of out-obscuring going on
To be fair, I would get involved in some of that but half the stuff I wanted to post isnt on Spotify

Anyway too much downtempo/acoustic rock type stuff been posted last week so I'm going to change the mood completely to start this week...

This thread is more about introducing people to music you like that others might not have heard of.

Says who?!
Anyway who is to know what anyone might have or have not heard of and if you already know something it doesnt stop you commenting on it

Plus 1 album per day so you should wait your turn!

The artist that I was going to post next has only 97 listeners on last.fm, that will 'out obscure' you all.

Cheers for listening Rood, you seem to be the only one who did. The first time any album came out of Robert Johnson's was in the 60's nearly 25 years after he was murdered at only 27 years old so they're all retrospectives sadly.

What I love about his music is not only how beautiful his guitar playing is, as are the vocals, but you can simply hear the influence that he and the other delta bluesman have had on music.

What is known of his life makes for quite a story too.

I remember the moral outcry when it dropped. Actually a very good album though, efil4zaggin was good too.

That's more like it!

An all time classic as far as I am concerned - I think this album was the moment that hiphop started to cross over into the mainstream. It started a golden era for hiphop which unfortunately seems to have died ...

It's just the way the thread has evolved. There are numerous albums that most people with an interest in music (which this threads is for after all) would have heard so little point in posting them in my opinion.

I wasn't really posting it in here as a proper album, I was just messing around on Spotify whilst posting.

I know, and although I've been posting more than my fair share of it, I do like other kinds of music, but Spotify is rubbish for most of it. Almost everything I think of posting is not on there.

I know all the Robert Johnson so didn't comment, one of my favourites.

I know his stuff too, not really a favourite in that I don't often chose to listen to blues, but I do appreciate the recordings. In fact, I could sit and listen to pretty much anything from the 30s quite happily.

Was that so hard, all I wanted was to feel appreciated and loved.

Personally I can't get enough of that sound, my dream is to go to america and see some of it performed live.

It really makes me want to pick up a guitar myself but I wouldn't even know where to start.

That's impressive. Is it an album you made yourself yesterday or something? The best I can do is 325, which is probably three times the amount of copies that exists of this band's only release, a CDR from 2005. (It's not very good, though, so I won't post it.)

It was released in 2007, sadly not by me. The weird thing is that I've got no idea how it has got onto my PC. The album itself on last.fm says it only has 10 listeners.

Why stop there, lets just delete rood and datura. It's a surprisingly accomplished album considering its low acknowledgment.

Ye well why dont you stick to posting your opinion on the albums posted rather than on what should and shouldnt be in the thread - I think the thread would be much improved in that way.

I dont really get the whole 'I already know this album so I am not going to comment on it' thing
I comment on whatever is posted up whether I love, hate, know or never heard of it.

I was just responding to a post in the thread. If I have nothing to add then I don't see the point in posting just for the sake of, I'm not particularly bothered what you think.

Apologies to everyone else for veering off topic.

The obvious explanation why here is obscure stuff (although 'obscure' is way over the top) is that the half the point of this thread would surely be to help each others become familiar with stuff we didn't know. There's no point in posting OK Cumputer, Thriller, Justified and Sft. Pepper.

EDIT: Oh shite I posted that before I read the last few posts. In other words I agree with Datura. That's not to say that people shouldn't post what they want to, it's to say it's daft complaining about the obscurity of what's posted. That's all.

I listened. It was well worth the post, although I got a bit bored after a while. Many samey songs! I'm not a blues fan though, although a bit of Robert Johnson is fine in smaller doses.

I'm currently trying to work out if this is great or terrible Treats - Sleigh Bells - Spotify
So, this post probably doesn't count since it came a few minutes after NWA, but I will give it a listen anyway, a friend has been talking them up and urging me to give them a listen, but for some reason I suspect they're a bit shite.

Edit: They sound alright, fun and enjoyable I suppose.

I think you must have misunderstood because I wasnt complaining about the obscurity! In fact I dont think much stuff which is really that obscure has been posted because it wouldnt be on Spotify anyway.

Anyway we digress ... we should all stick to post an album or post comment on other albums or shut the feck up !

Greatness right there, a classic

Oh and seeing as I haven't posted one yet I am reserving tonight's slot.

Oh yes - nowt wrong with remembering some old classics as far as I am concerned.

You have half an hour to sort your choice Nome!

Brroklyn's Bishop Allen's debut album, self-recorded over a couple of years whenever they could grab the time. Bishop Allen are basically two guys, and everything on this album was played by the two, though they flesh out into a 4 or 5 piece for live shows. Once described by Rolling Stone as "Modest Mouse if they'd spend the last 3 years living in a Chuck E. Cheese ball pit", they're unashamedly twee and indie, but they're also damned good at it, keeping a sense of fun and energy as well as a slightly bittersweet nostalgia. Personal favourites are bolded above, though I'd also highly recommend their follow-up album "Broken String" as well as the 12 eps they put out in 2006 (one for every month).

Passed out on the couch last night (becoming a rather regular occurrence these days) I'll try again tonight.

Sorry, did ask last night if you were still going to post an album, but changed it to an album when you didn't reply

No need to apologise mate I fell asleep, must be getting old :(

I don't care if these aren't cool and people think they're shit, this is a topsummer album full of catchy sing along songs

Just gave this a listen and completely agree, great sing-a-long poppy choruses, really nice stuff. Had a chance to see them live over the summer at the Radio 1 event, kinda wish I had now, think they'd be a good laugh to watch.
