Lisandro Martinez | Signs for United

I'll explain it further for you. When the ball is in the air Varane/Maguire will not only win it but will actually keep possession. I'm sure this isn't counted as a pass but it's far more important. Similarly when fighting with an opponent Varane is much more likely to win it cleanly and keep possession. Lisandro will just put it out of play or boot it.

And yes he is slow

You have never seen him play, confirmed. Talking out of your ass mate.

Wonder what CB we'll waste £40m on next summer when this one gets exposed by the lack of a DM

Seems like our most likely CB signing at this point. I'm excited. Heres some of my posts about Lisandro Martinez as I've kept an eye on him and first saw him breakthrough in the Argentine league as an outstanding player

So if we do sign him and he turns out to be rubbish, I'll fully accept responsibility  On the other hand...

Think you should get that FIFA scouting badge

He never was being bought as a DM, people are just projecting their desire for us to buy one onto this signing. We do need a DM signing though.

I think Martinez will get a run at DM during the preseason. His versatility is what I like about this signing and ten Hag will know how to get the best out of him.

Does seem very short for a centre half. Inevitably he will get done in the air and we’ll concede and I wouldn’t trust you lot not to turn on him immediately.

I have a chuckle when certain posters have an opinion on every player in foreign leagues as if their experts on every player. I watch football regularly and most of the players in European leagues I have hardly watched or heard of to give an opinion on their abilities or lack off.

The best sources are likely to be Ajax fans or who watch Eredivisie regularly.

I think you misread my post. I’m basically agreeing with you!
Maybe I didn’t explain myself but we are signing just two Dutch based players and one of those is an Argentinian international. If we signed Bissouma, Rice etc in one window there wouldn’t be this nonsense about signing too many EPL players.
Ah yes agreed  apologies

So, is this guy any good? Never seen him play, and always though that Timber was their best defender since we were liked with him.

That does actually explain it more, so there's that. You're totally wrong and you have no clue what your talking about, but at least your point is clear now. Just out of curiosity, you follow Ajax, the Dutch league, Argentina national team? You seem to think you know a lot about the guy, wonder what matches you base your verdict on.

Martinez is meant to be quite physically strong I thought? Shorter sure, but certainly not weak.

Dunno why people are arguing whether he will play CB or DM.

He plays both positions.

He has played in both positions for Ten Hag.

He can do again in the future. This isn't a difficult concept to comprehend.

This thread makes me laugh sometimes. Some people adamant about him being signed as DM when EtH has blatantly said he doesn’t have the running power to play there, and dropped him from that position for Ajax.

Also the way some go on about his height you’d think we were signing Warwick Davies to play at the back. Also, Harry and Victor are over 6’ and that’s been a huge success.

I disagree. EtH said he wasn’t good enough to play DM as he lacked the running power. Think he would be an emergency midfield option in games where we had injury problems, etc…

If ETH didn't think Martinez had sufficient running power to play midfield in the eredivisie he definitely won't be playing him there in the premier league which is a much tougher league.

I can guarantee he's never watched him. There's no way you can be this wrong about a player.

And Arsenal want to sign him to play LB. Poor lad, nobody appreciates him at cb

So still desperately in need of starting one, cannot get away from this feeling of Utd being overrun without a proper DM

I’d agree if we play with current tactics, but if we’re squeezing them right up we should be less exposed, and the benefit of someone like Martinez that is nimble, anticipates and is snappy in the tackle, will shine through in my opinion. I’m probably completely wrong though haha

Option 3 would be ideal!

True but you would get a wide range of answers on any particular player of ours or elsewhere in the PL if you asked on here. It's not a particularly good guide either.

That's not true though, Maguire is guilty of heading the ball into no mans land all the time. There is a massive myth about Maguire being good on the ball when in reality he's not, as soon as he's under a modicum of pressure he fumbles it with a hospital pass that puts his teammates in trouble. He also takes far, far too long to pass the ball out. Lisandro from the small sample size I have seen is actually quite good at passing under pressure, however I haven't seen enough to say this is always the case.

All this talk about a DM is funny because people are ignoring the obvious even if others bring it up evefy time.

1. Frenkie will be your DM.
2. Someone will partner him as the formation is very likely to be 4-3-2-1. Can see EtH switch to some kind of 3-2-4-1 formation if that suits the team better.
3. Martinez is not very likely to partner FdJ.

In fairness, by his comments I don't think he's seen much of Varane of Maguire either.

Done dealio... The "one deal at a time" crowd have been firmly put in their box.
I'm not in that box but we've done no deals as it stands so no one has been put in any box.

I firmly believe we'll have 3-4 transfers done in the next week, for what it's worth. Just a bit of a silly comment from you.
