Lisandro Martinez | Signs for United

Price is a bit steep for this dude. Not really convinced he's that amazing. And not because he's a leprechaun (by Dutch standards).

what negotiating tables? not sure the suits have made it that far! As for simple: new boss going after players he knows and who seemed interested in coming ie Timber, plus a free agent Eriksen. Of course, I should have remembered that United don't do "simple" when it comes to transfers
Oh hello!

Calm yourself.

Millions of pounds/euros exchanging hands is never simple
so why do the likes of City and Liverpool (Spurs too now) get things done with less fuss? Even the newly promoted teams have finalised more deals than us. It is vital that a manager gets players in early for pre-season, even more so when they themselves are new

Though excellent on the ball, you prefer someone even better on the ball in midfield, someone more dynamic, better dribblers in midfield.

As for Ajax, Martinez is better on the ball than Alvarez, but Alvarez gives the midfield more of a physical presence and he is even more of a bulldozer. Wins the ball and gives it to the defenders/Gravenberch.

The buildup started from the back for Ajax, and Martinez, Blind, Mazraoui, Timber were ideal for that. Mind, I can't think of many teams who had a set of better ball playing defenders.
It's a shame your posts can't be stickied.

The situation here looks a bit more promising it's true that Ajax have given up on keeping him. I don't recall ever seeing him play so I've no idea if he's right for us. But if the manager wants him, let's just go out and do the damn deal. The club has to back ETH fully in these first few windows so we can see if his ideas/systems work. No point doing things half-cocked.

Do they actually get things done with less fuss, or is it more likely you're not aware of the fuss because you don't follow their transfer threads every minute of the day?

We could have got signings in early, but you'd still have found a reason to moan. You've been doing it all window. I just personally don't get it. New era, new start, why not try and be enthusiastic? This is all meant to be fun.

I read this after every summer transfer window.

I really want to know how T Malacia 22 at 5’7 is better than a 6’1 Fully fit Luke Shaw who should be coming into his prime at 26, many of us united fans forget, LVG loved him and but for his serious double leg break would have been contending for best left back in the PL every season with Robertson. I just can’t wait to see the threads in a few months when we play 5’7 L Martinez with a 5’7 T Malacia and teams target the right hand side far post with late runs from 6’1 number 8’s and inverted strikers watch Ricarlson , Kulveserski and Perisic have a field day fior Spurs if we are. Dumb enough to play to sub 5’8 players on the left side of our defence. Can you imagine Kane, DCL, C Wilson, Haland and Nunez they will move from Varane/Maguire area and time their runs in between LCB and LB.

Luke shaw is ahead of T Malacia, that was clear in ETH selection in the first half against Liverpool and let’s hope that Malacia competition brings out the very best of him from 2 years ago and the Euro’s.

People really think he’ll be a DM? Even though ten Hag has said that he isn’t one, and Martinez himself has been playing his best ever stuff at CB?

He will be our LCB with Maguire or Varane on the right.

Also, look how good he is on the ball:

It’s not even a case of he looks good on the ball for a defender. He dribbles and carries the ball nothing like a defender which is the biggest compliment I can give.

Having him and DeJong would make such a difference against the press and getting the ball forwards from the back. I noticed in the Liverpool game also that Malacia was comfortable when pressed.

was it fun watching the team last season? At times they tested my love for the club like never before. and so far we haven't strengthened the starting XI.

And I pointed out facts, even though you see that as moaning. The fat is we didn't get signings in early. We almost never do any more.

I know it's heresy but I questioned the appointments of the new suits and so far they have done exactly nothing to change that view. I could ask you why you think closing your eyes and hoping everything will go smoothly is the right attitude - seem a bit like Boris Johnson to me

do you remember that awful night in Europe when SAF played (tiny) Paul Parked at CB? I think it was because the club misunderstood rules on the number of British players who had to be in the side.

Did they get players in before pre-season? that's the only question you have to ask... then take a look at United

What about getting players for preseason eh?
That's the only question you need to ask yourself.

Class. Presumably that gets him into trouble every now and then, but it’d be brilliant to have someone who can open up the game so much, turning their press into an actual counter-attacking opportunity for us instead of another back pass at best.

Pub guy and Murtaugh seem to be flying all over the world to get signings done these days. We have technology sirs. Its called fax.
Clubs haven't dealt with them before, so maybe they felt it better to actually meet the representatives of other clubs to build a working relationship.

I like their hands on approach, as opposed to Woodwards if its ok to like anything about the club these days.

What is this new fandangle technology called 'fax'? The Devil's machine? I just got my telex machine installed at my office the other day. So cool.

What will these technology geniuses come up with next? What amazing times we live in!!!

Tell me you play football manager without telling me you play football manager.

Fun fact: Sterling only officially signed for Chelsea yesterday despite agreeing personal terms and the agreement weeks ago.
It is murder trying to find a pen that works these days!!

I rate Murtogh and Arnold. Only time will tell how successful they will be but there seems to be a genuine will to right the wrongs.
Unlike Woodward who looked like he didn't care enough

Looking forward to this. Looks like he’ll bring a completely different element to our back line & hugely help implement the attacking possession-based football that EtH wants.

I know nothing about Martinez so I naturally assume a CB at 5ft 9in must have a cracking leap on him?

Add eriksen to that mix and we have some very good technical players.

No way Rojo was better than our CBs, unless the aim is to mindlessly maim or to burn toast
Rojo was decent at CB.

It was his terrible run at left back after Shaw broke his leg that earned him his reputation for being crap. One thing Jose got right was never to play him there.

Sadly he was yet another crock though. He and Jones had a good run together for a while under Jose. It was never going to last :wenger:

This looks like Done Dealeo based upon what I’m reading in the Dutch press, just waiting for Ajax to sort their replacement out.

Don’t be mislead by his height, he’s actually defensively very good, reads the game like a book and excellent passing skills. Very allround, one of the top 2 or 3 players in De Eredivisie past two seasons and very comfortable in the CL as well. I expect him and Malacia to be revelations.

Is he any good at DM? I keep seeing him refered to as someone who can play in defence or midfield so is he bought in for the midfield?

I can't see him displacing a fit Varane and captain Maguire, and at left back you have 3 players

It's a shame your posts can't be stickied.
They'll find out fast enough, he'll be a fan favourite very soon I reckon.

I think some severely underestimate how good Ajax has been the past few years, despite playing in the Dutch League.

I think the fee has been agreed but Ajax' board and The Glazees have to agree on the installments. Will be done today I reckon.

Will this be completed by the weekend? Hopefully we get both him and eriksen by the time we face palace.

Its Dutch total football man, sometimes the defender is the midfielder, other times the winger is the wing back and the full back is in the box. Its all fugazi.

Yes, but you take the time to explain and break certain things down that need to be said with patience and insight, which is admirable.

The context of shining in a midfield for Ajax as opposed to our bunch of barely recognisable midfielders is also tossed to the side; being a D or C midfielder among legitimate better midfielders is not the same as coming to a club with nary a midfielder on a passing grade and vying for a place amongst them. Even if the statement rings true at Ajax, one man's trash is another's treasure couldn't be more true in relation to us currently compared to optimised, free-flowing midfields. Same goes for any area of the pitch, context is always necessary.

Yes, even if you don't rate the Eredivisie, you can't just put the achievements of Ajax in Europe to the side to suit your argument.
