Robson always had the talent, he conveyed it in 2007/08 where he reached new heights for Madrid before fading off in the latter half of the season

he also showed moments of brilliance for City like his game vs Arsenal, he just needs to get his consistency right, he was probably Brazil's best performer at the world cup

he's actually putting the effort in for Milan. Which is surprising, i wonder how long it'll last.

it would be a long shot but i wouldn't put it past messi to overtake kubala THIS season on that list.

Was 22 behind kubala for 2nd place in barca la liga all time scoring last week (went past eto'o last week). Reckoned he would catch kubala at the end of this season....well it looks like he's on his way. gap down to 19. 16 games left.

With Messi going all Messi these days, 19 in 16 really shouldn't be a problem. Seriously, the a and h should just be removed from Messiah, because it's becoming quite clear that Messi is actually Jesus, Superman, Santa Claus or some other, really cool supernatural being like a super awesome dragon reincarnated.

It's not just the fact that he retrieved the ball.He nutmegged the following player too
I find it funny when people say Messi doesn't contribute defensively to his team.

It's absolutely ridiculous. He just did a 40 yard sprint and a close-contact ball steal a tenth of a second earlier, and yet he's completely unfazed and calm as a cucumber to nutmeg the next player.

I effing love it! Just doesn't get better.

It's amazing how effortless it all looks, clearly the best player at the moment and should stay that way for a while.

You'll never see Messi score like Ronaldo away to Roma or Porto.

Your point is?

He'd dribble past six players and slot it in with a powerful shot instead.

Does it count for more?

Ronaldo has proven he's just as effective a goalscorer.

Effectively, it doesn't, but it looks damn cool and could someday be worth 2 goals indeed if some rules come into force. The day it happens, we'll be witnessing a 100-goal per season Messis but only 65-goal per season Ronaldos.

Actually, if such stupid rules happen, it's more likely Ronaldo will get getting the 3-pointers, as it's more likely that goals scored from a distance (like the one against Porto) will count for more.

Wait, what?

I, I just....

What?

I can see him scoring 60 goals this season (at least)

Surely he will break the record for the European Golden Boot.

Messi hitting the 3 pointer on the buzzer!!!

Can't see it ever happening if i'm honest

Cal? are you actually serious in your "stance"...like ALL the time? Do you really believe Ronaldo is, presently/currently/NOW, better then Messi?

I'm sure 90% of FOOTBALL fans (if not more) can agree, red/blue/black tinted specs or not, that Messi deserves to be number 1 at the moment/presently/currently. In the famous words of your idol "no one knows the future. Only god".

Most people on these boards have a huge fondness/gratitude to Ron, especially after what he has done for / with us. But surely as a football fan, even the most blinkered fan SHOULD agree that or see that Messi is presently a little better.

Whatever your reasoning, be it Messi is at a better team, "SAF said so" or even because he's a midget & shouldn't play with men...whatever reasoning you have as to why Ronaldo is at least AS good as Messi, is currently a bit flawed & the sooner you realise this the better. Then you can get back to the basics of just ENJOY watching football and them both play.

I am no Messi, nor Ronaldo fan. I'm a Manchester United FC fan, but even if I were a Messi fan, there would be no harm in admitting if Ronaldo was/is better. Ronaldo is damn good and he is just a tad unlucky that Messi and Barca is dominating as much as he currently is. (not just goal wise but overall contribution wise).

The only thing your current plight does is severely dent your opinions/reputation in any other aspect of football/general, other then the Messi/Ronaldo debate.

Hey you might just be on a total WUM aswell and not give a shite. Who knows.

messi deserves it, but if ronaldo was at united i think it would be a different story

Does it count for more?

Ronaldo has proven he's just as effective a goalscorer.

And in two different leagues/teams

Would love to know how effective Messi would be if he was not in that Barca team. He is not as good for Argentina.

if you play him in his rightful position he can be almost as good for Argentina

he's proven it before and he will again, this new coach seems to be employing him further up the pitch than Maraodna and his last few games he's been great, sensational vs Spain and Brazil and got a standing ovation vs Ireland

Actually I've already made my stance clear on may occasions:

Ronaldo was clearly better 06/07 & 07/08;
Messi was better 08/09 & 09/10.

As for 10/11, I don't think Messi has been better than Ronaldo, similar number of goals despite playing for a much better team.

is that the only criteria to judge a player?

Messi beats way more people, creates more, has a less shot to goal ratio and works harder for the team

It amuses me how defenders in La Liga stand off him when he cuts in from the right and you know he's going to take a shot which ends up in the end 8 out of 10. Someone just take him out if you can't get the ball. I know Wes Brown would

It's the most important criteria for forwards.

Beating people does nothing unless it results in goals, having a less shot to goal ratio doesn't matter as ultimately the number of goals during the 90min game is all that matters.

I don't see why Ronaldo taking pot shots from 30 yards should count against him if he ends up scoring as many as Messi trying to dribble past 4 players and end up scoring a similar number of goals.

he's not limited to a forward though, he's also an attacking midfielder, can play anywhere in the attacking half

for example he can hurt you when he's not scoring, you saw it for yourself when he split Madrid's defence twice to supply David Villa in el clasico

there was a time we used to talk about Ronaldo and not just mention his goals, it makes you wonder who really is the more complete player

The thing is, in 08/09 and 09/10, Messi was on a completely different planet, no one in there right mind would question him being the undisputed #1 unless they were a Man Utd fan.

Ronaldo in 06/07 & 07/08 was yes, the best in the world, but the gap from him to the next(an injured Messi, Kaka, and kinda Torres I guess) was no way near as big.

Messi is destroying him again this year, stats are starting to show it too, 15 less goals+assists in 2 more games? And Messi has much better shot accuracy it seems because he knows when to pass unlike seemingly post 06/07 Ronaldo, although to be fair, under Mourinho, he's a tad better at being a team player.

Talking about the more complete player is a moot point, both have found their best position on the pitch as forwards.

I've no doubt Ronaldo would make a better goalkeeper or defender than Messi due to his height, does that make him more complete?

Anyway, it's pretty clear we're not going to get anywhere with this debate, so let's just wait and see how they get on this season.

Actually Ronaldo was as far ahead of the rest in 07/08 as Messi was in 08/09.

09/10 many people think that Messi didn't even deserve the Ballon D'or, he certainly won it with a very small margin.

As for this season, they have a similar number of goals, playing with a striker like Villa inevitably results in high assists figures.

As for shot accuracy, I've already explained my point, it counts for nothing if it doesn't result in more goals. If Ronaldo takes a shot from 30 yards whilst Messi tried to dribble past 4 players. Whilst Ronaldo's shot was off target and Messi gets crowded out, why should that count against Ronaldo?

They are both playing to their stregths.

What in the name of...

Sarni mate this is one of the most astonishing ridiculous posts I've ever seen! The way you say it, it's like you think such rules might actually happen!!!

Arsene Wenger has a lot to answer for

I've just been mindfecked
