Lionel Messi transfer rumors

Maybe but that may not be enough if it means that the Ballon d'Ors are going to Ronaldo because Madrid are the best. Messi needs a platform that will help him stop Ronaldo from winning the big trophies.

Messi can't change Madrid being the best team atm, no matter where he goes. City and PSG aren't even top 5 teams. Bayern, Juve, AM can't sign him financially. Barca isn't out of any title challenge. The first team, even with the midfield problem can still fight for every trophy.

He hasn't signed the new contract though?

PSG with Neymar, Messi and Mbappe could compete with Madrid, they'd be only a top CM away from doing it.

No, but his salary his huge. Would blow up the entire wage structure of those teams. PSG is where you go for money, not to win big titles. Not to mention that Neymar might leave if he's no2 again.

He's the best in the world and maybe in the history of the game.

Don't see why he shouldn't earn every single penny that any football club is willing to pay him.

Still bewildered how anyone can call him a money whore or such. Is everyone here working members of society?

Well, at this point it would be great for Barcelona if he leaves, and in a sudden way.

I think it's the only way to clean Barcelona from their people in charge (Bartomeu and staff). These pleople are killing the club.

It would be a sad but necessary sacrifice. And make him even a bigger legend. Of course some people would see it like "he leaves now that the team is not strong.." But the leaders of the club are ruining it, and if you give your heart and maybe win trophies, they would get the credit. And that sucks.

Thinking about it, I don't see him going to Pep that much. Against what everyone sees here, I think the relationship between Mourinho and Messi is not bad at all. And it became clearer after Jose left Madrid. Mourinho had a meltal war with Messi, but it was clearly a tactic trying to keep him out of the game somehow. I think they could perfectly work together. United has not only the money but the sponsorship of Adidas, which is important.

Don't think the relationship between Messi and Guardiola finished that well.

There is no way Barce let this drag into January. They've made massive profit this transfer window and would pay Messi whatever it takes before letting him leave on a free.

Thanks, but no thanks.

New contract is already agreed, Messi just hasn't signed it yet

If he leaves, it's probably going to be city. Unless chinese overlords at either milan club decides to go crazy and his wife pushes for the city(it's well known that the Messis love the city of Milan)

Btw, right now Messi leaving might be a blessing in disguise for barcelona. Allows them to rebuild without having to worry about a massive wage bill weighting them down and frees up money for Espai Barca(assuming it's not just a scam from the current board to make money off the club, of course)

The board will not be able to do anything about it other than resign or be voted out. Money will not change anything in this

Consider that if he left (which he won't), it would be for a massive fee which would in turn elevate this summer's transfer inflation to an entirely new level where traditional big clubs get priced out of a lot of good mid to upper tier players. This is why the likes of PSG need to be taken down hard and sanctioned to keep transfers in line.

Is it true you blew most of the Neymar money on Dembele and agent fees and the like.

Sheikh gave the biggest hint when he said City will soon be involved in the biggest transfer in history.

For curiosity's sake I'd be happy with him leaving Barca and joining a premier league team even if it wasn't us. I'd love nothing more than seeing him play against teams like Swansea, Bournemouth, Huddersfield, Everton and West Brom week in week out. I'm positive his technical attributes and intelligence would see him dominate the league although I wouldn't expect him to reproduce the same outrageous things he has done playing with the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Suarez, etc.

I just rate him that much (Best player to ever kick a ball imho) and adore watching him that much as a football fan, I'd take a hit with him joining City for the reasons above.

Some may say it's a crazy opinion as a United fan but I don't care. I love football above everything else. United are the team I support and always have.

When was that?

Messi is arguably the best ever but he's 30 now and at 31 even he won't be worth 200M. It would make a lot of sense if some club signs him on free. That would be the best possible signing.

Tbh he comes across as a money hungry whore. He's constantly looking for a new deal every 2 years and it was rumoured he turned down Barcelona's opening offer in the summer. For someone who ''loves'' Barcelona and will never probably leave why does he keep trying to squeeze more money out of them?

Don't really understand this. Barcelona are rich because of players like him, but especially him. I think football in general cost the fans too much, but they've paid the money to see him, so if the club has it I think he's entitled to ask them for more.

The greatest ever, imo. Would love to see him in the PL, although it would hurt a bit if he went to you or City.

I like him, wouldn't want him to go to City. I think it wont happen anyway.

Free? Messi, like Cristiano and Neymar, are more than football. They're icons. Economically speaking I don't think you would really spend a lot of money with 200M for Messi or Ronaldo. They generate so much money you could get a lot back in a short period. it would take the club status into another level. Only one club and one country can say Messi's played for them atm.

And speaking about football, Messi ulike Cristiano could keep playing until 40 at least, since he has more resources. He could act as a top playmaker due to his vision and passing skills. I think that until 33 at least he would converve this goal-scorer form. But it will depend on the minutes he has or if he cotinues playing with Arg.

He won't leave. Just putting pressure on the board.

I'd have liked to see him leave 2 or 3 years ago but it's too late now.

Unlike Neymar, he is a Barcelona symbol and their all time greatest player (has overtaken Cruyff IMO). It would be weird to see him leave to another European club. I always thought that when he left it would be to play his last season for Newell's Old Boys, his childhood club.

The fact that Barca have twice claimed he has signed the deal, without him having done so, should tell you they're pretty worried about this. It's hard to imagine him playing elsewhere, but as things stand, I'm not sure being at Barca is any guarantee of league or CL titles in the next couple of seasons. Maybe, just maybe he'll think playing somewhere else for mental money is worth a shot.

Messi shouldn't leave Barca for any team. Barca aren't as bad as what everyone is making it out to be. They are a midfielder and bench attacking player away from competing with Madrid. All they needed was Di Maria and Coutinho and they'll be back in business. Dembele may not be a Neymar but the kid has huge potential and will only get better. It's much better than having Delafou playing in the Neymar position. If Messi leaves for City, it would be a disaster as right now City attacking personnel are equivalent to "too many cooks...".

Do you mean as a symbol or player? Player I agree, not hard being he's the GOAT ;), but no one will overtake Crijuff as the symbol of Barca as the man redefined the way Barca play football for we don't know how many years to come still.

Player. I know the symbolism of Cruyff runs deep in Camp Nou.

That's such an entitled mindset. I bet the smaller clubs would love a scenario like that where they could actually keep their best players.

Its just normal logic. Good players will naturally want to move to bigger clubs, unless off course they're devoid of any ambition.

If he comes to the PL, it'll be to City and City only. So no thanks, hope he signs an extension with Barca.

Imagine the scenes if he goes to PSG and outscores and outshines Neymar again

What's the point of challenging yourself so late in to your career. Not going to happen; if anything he will end his contract and go back to Argentina.

Exactly, many scenarios possible but not that one - meanwhile few culés would ever even entertain even the possibility of CR at Barça
On the other hand, Messi would probably join Madrid if it also meant a significant increase on his contract, whilst I doubt Ronaldo would like to join Barca in any terms. Of course it's just my opinion since I can't read minds yet.

I don't see Messi leaving Barcelona unless he's going back to Argentina but there's still plenty of time before that, as bad as the team and management might be right now they still offer him the best platform for him to still challenge for titles and individual awards, not to mention his huge wages. I think the only teams that could afford him and be seriously interested would be Bayern Munich or Manchester City/United and maybe even PSG lol, but still it seems very unlikely.
