Spoony
The People's President
Who's going to offer the overrated one the contract he desires? I suspect his next club would gain loads of money from new sponsors but whether that'd be enough....
What actually happened? I thought he looks certain of staying after agreeing to a 50% paycut and with him finally winning something with Argentina and favourites for Ballon D'Or, he looks to fire Barca to the title next season. Barca President's statement sounds like they have had enough of him so will be interesting to see if this is on Messi or Barca. Funny thing is I think Barca will survive without him and could win La Liga next season.
Messi wasting last years of his career in Ligue 1 would be a shocker. Doubt it'd even work that well, Messi, Neymar, Mbappe front line would be quality but also totally unmanageable.
It’s actually quite convenient when you think about it. No Barca president wants to lose Messi under their watch due to the fan backlash, but then his wages are (along with others) sinking the club. Enter La Liga financial regulations to force their hand..
(Further) payday for a couple of years, win the Champions League and then return to Newell's Old Boys?
I stand corrected, he's a lifelong Newell's fan.(Further) payday for a couple of years, win the Champions League and then return to Newell's Old Boys?
Or Messi just decides to take less moneyChelsea are going to pay North of €120M for Lukaku. If I were Abramovic, I'd rather use that money to pay Messi's wages and get a historic footballer playing for my club.
But PSG are favourites unless la liga feel the pressure to change their stance on the fair play rules.
I’m a firm believer Ronaldo would do wonders for us. Clearly Cavani can’t play every game and neither can him so it’s quite a good match. Also if we ever wanted to play Greenwood with one of them against the low block teams we would be hard to defend against. Ronaldo with one touch shots or Greenwood slipping in behind a line for a quick one twoI would rather bring Ronaldo back than go for Messi. I’m actually very curious about where he goes next summer. Rumours were he’d go to PSG and if Messi goes there than it’s out of the question.
I guess he could be a plan B if for some reason we can’t get Haaland next summer.

£50m a year? No I don’t think we do tbh.
A plc is a sort of public ownership. The key here for me is fan ownership. Just look at the number of fans urging us to sell everyone and buy Messi or wouldn't mind if he offer him 1m per week because "he's worth it". Fan ownership opens a board to pressures you wouldn't see in any other ownership structure. The thing is you can't even bank on there being financial controls unless it is imposed by an external entity, such as the league. With the exception of this last election, virtually every presidential campaign headlines are about the players any candidate will bring. It feeds into an unsustainable culture. Even this last election, all the candidates were promising to re-sign Messi no matter what.If this is correct, absolutely mental. Public ownership doesn't seem that enticing.

50m a year is already a huge payout for Messi, around half of what he used to earn at Barca. Remember, he had a 4 year contract with Barcelona which cost 550m, which is around 135m per year. To own Messi, you either have to literally break the bank or borrow from oil field. He's not gonna sign that much with anyone. He will take a paycut.
I have no doubts PSG will pull this off. Even with FFP considerations. One of the gambits of ESL fiasco was Nassar Al-Khelafi becoming the chairman of the ECA (European Club Association) and siding with UEFA of the ESL coup. Plus QATAR are hosting the world cup in a year and the jewel in the crown of world football playing for thier club PSG will only strengthen their white washing ambitions.Apparently his signing fee is huge according to reports.
Any reduction in wages he agreed at Barca, was basically rectified by his signing fee.
So he was never doing Barca any favours.
Will be interesting to see what PSG end up paying for him plus wages.
Add Messi's salary and that means Barcelona have been in negative for years.
He will probably be offered €100m+ a season and will stick around for 2-3 years, while also getting €150m or so as his signing on fee… Good business I say.(Further) payday for a couple of years, win the Champions League and then return to Newell's Old Boys?

He has enough money, he is going to go to PSG for sure, only club that can hide from the FFP. He just has to reduce his salary and take a HUGE signing bonus and PSG works its way around FFP per usual. I don't know how Poch is going to control that team if he does sign for them, that is a lot of talent all wanting the ball and goals. If not PSG where? would it be retirement for Messi having priced himself out of a move?
I agree with Anka's sentiment, but surely if a "normal" company were spending a high percentage of their revenue on wages, paying their workers such high salaries... this wouldn't be considered hyper-capitalism - they'd be considered quite an ethical company wouldn't they?
Although ofcourse in football situation the players are assets/products aren't they.

Is he actually gonna return to Argentina, highly doubt it.(Further) payday for a couple of years, win the Champions League and then return to Newell's Old Boys?
and how are they going to pay for it has financial implosion or Barca 2 written all over it.
Can't agree. If he'd left when he was 30 of his own volition he would have gotten credit for taking on a new challenge. Now he's leaving to get more money. 34 years old is not the time to seek the first new challenge of your career when your boyhood club is going down the drain. If he doesn't move people say he's safe in his comfort zone etc.
I don't see the issue. Messi probably needs a change. Barcelona need a fresh start and to be run well more than they need specific individuals. It could work out to the benefit of everyone.
And Barcelona fans should support the players they do have. Some are still very good footballers and may shine once thr club's overall direction improves.
Care to translate this "Ultimate whore 'a'" for us
Basically says Chelsea's looking for an opportunity to go for Messi. Has taken stock of Man City's position and is signalling its intent to go for Messi, potentially alongside Lukaku. Says Abramovich wants to meet as soon as possible.
