Lionel Messi | PSG Watch

Not really. The first half was dominated by Juventus and the second half by Real Madrid. It wasn't a one sided game and took tactical changes at half time for Real Madrid to actually dominate.
It was a one-sided affair - one of the more one sided finals in recent years.

The second part of the second half was one sided but not the rest. My point is again about the hyperboles, there is no way to seriously rate anything if we just go and exaggerate everything instead of trying to be accurate. Real Madrid deserved that win, overall they dominated but for example Navas was a big part of that win and the way people are seemingly now interpreting it, it feels that the scoreline overshadows what actually happened during that game.

I just disagree. It started off evenly, but I don't feel the scoreline flatters Real Madrid. That's what happens when you have squad full of world class players. A few slipups and the floodgates are open

It's fine that you disagree, you are just wrong. :D

Anyway that's one game and has no importance to the point. Barcelona dominated United and Juventus in even clearer ways, Real Madrid didn't dominate the opposition in a way that would give them extra points compared to Barcelona.

Navas made one save, not even that difficult, from a long range shot by Pjanic. He otherwise had nothing to do, because their goal was a worldie and they di absolutely nothing else. The best they could do was to mostly shut us down in the first half. They were never dangerous themselves. Then in the second half they failed to shut us down and we wiped them off the pitch

It was one of the most one-sided CL finals in recent memory. City and Spurs were more competitive in their non-competitive finals than Juventus in Cardiff...you'd have to go back to 2012 for something similar(the caveat being chelsea somehow won that)

This is arguably his best individual seasons for me. He carried Barcelona on his back. He was a complete joy to watch. It was the season he said he would try to bring the CL to Camp nou and he went crazy. Looking at it I'm actually worried because watching him at Psg he looks like he's lost a lot of pace and his football brain isn't as sharp.

But Van Dijk was robbed! Younger versions were better though. This was just season in his prime where he had to carry mediocre barca side.

I'm not worried about Messi, you can see he is getting into gear, he is creating opportunities that aren't getting finished. He's just got to adjust to a tougher league than what he's been used to, but he'll manage. I expect 2022 to be a big year for Messi.

People sometimes say 2017-2019 Messi was bad, on the decline etc, but honestly those two seasons especially 2018-2019 he was an absolute monster. It was the season he was scoring a free kick every 2 games, making ridiculously solo goals, started making mm-precision passes etc.

Right now i dont think he's that much worse TBH, been watching him lately and hes picking up his form with PSG. When the team realizes they need to look for Messi at every play, he will start looking that good.

Wait, and this is supposed to be good for the team? It may be good for Messi, but if their gameplan boils down to "pass it to Messi" then that will leave him being marked out of games against tougher opponents, PSG should vary their attacks, not be solely about Messi playing throughballs to Mbappe.

Agreed. PSG have so many star players they dont need to build around 1 player. In any case Mpabbe is clealy the best in that team this season.

Did he have decent game? He needs to start scoring some freaking goals even if he isnt striker.

Would have been a good game to get some form - like all those getafe teams he maintained immense form on.

Hopefully he can do it against Lorient anyway.

That’s not correct

Funny that getafe is always singled out. I guess mainly because he scored a solo wonder goal against them. Im sure if he scored against mighty norwich or Newcastle people would be jizzing themselves. He has a fantastic record against strong teams in la liga and the UCL.

Love to see him in the PL

Not for me. He was a very good player in a weaker team and league by that point. The early 2010s player who had matured a bit but still had his explosiveness was another level on from this.

I dont see him matching any of his Barcelona seasons with PSG. He hasn't got the years to build a team around him.

He also older and past his prime. He said that he never expected win another Ballon'dor after the 2019. He wouldnt say that unless he could that he was close to being past his best. He'll never imo look like prime messi at PSG because he's clearly declined. I did and do expect more though. He looked finished at the beginning at last season but then went on a great run in 2021. Maybe the same will happen or he'll just continue to be subpar.

Saw a post on twitter from ESPN yesterday that reminded me that Messi scored 91 goals in a calendar year. That figure really is insane.

Will probably win yet another Ballon Dor though, a CL with PSG or a WC final with Argentina will be enough i think.

Doubt it. Its for Mbappe to win now. Also doubt this PSG will win the CL. Great teams trumph star players. City, liverpool and Chelsea can knock them out. They dont look great at all.

Even if PSG win the CL, he’ll need to have been their best player. Mbappe is currently their most important player and his star power is growing exponentially. If it stays as it is now, I can’t see how Messi would win the Ballon D’or over him even if PSG were to lift the CL.

Ligue 1 is tougher than La Liga, I don't know how people can watch both leagues and not see how much more physical Ligue 1 is compared to La Liga, which is more technical. So it is a tougher league, tough not better by any stretch, and that requires an adjustment clearly for Messi, although he has been a slow-starter the last couple of seasons and I expect him to turn it up in 2022 on all fronts.

DUSAN TADIC has beaten Lionel Messi's calendar year assist record that had stood for a DECADE.

The Ajax star, 33, registered his 37th assist of 2021 last weekend against AZ Alkmaar.
Loses a record.

Talking about Messi in his prime I dont know how many times he was hacked to pieces by ramos and pepe and still had a masterclass.

Ronaldo doesn’t lose it, it’s been matched. So he’s the joint record holder.

Messi loses two according to your article.

Lastly, this puerile nonsense of ‘oh but Ronaldo did x’ to any info on Messi (and vice versa) is pathetic.

Ronaldo will lose it though. And not any less pathetic than you posting Messi losing a record, absolute joke really

Ronaldo will lose it if Vlahovic scores, yes. And nobody will really give a shit because it’s a pretty irrelevant record.

This is the Messi thread though, so obviously it would be posted here. And you’re obviously butthurt that he lost it.

Not at all, you’re only here to celebrate anything that is a negative towards Messi, you are the most butthurt of all.
