I'll give that to him : I don't understand the media narrative that Messi is bad and lazy while Mbappe carries PSG.

I mean is that really a surprise? You put everything you've got into a world cup emotionally and physically and you go all the way to the end. And it's held in the middle of the season. A drop off is inevitable.
Mbappe misses by a country mile a lot of the time too. Really wayward finishing at times

I've just lost the count of the times I've watched him put those really long balls with effect to the space like the one from Mbappe's second goal (he even has better versions of it with the ball just sticked to the grass)...it's just effortless with him, what a freaking genius.

The assist for Mbappe today is something only the very best playmakers in history can consistently pull off and Messi is at the very least amongst them if not on top of the pile.
I saw he won the Ihhs 2022 playmaker award, now becoming its record holder.

I wouldn't mind either, two mid 30 year olds leading the attack won't work in Europe, and they already win games in la liga so its not like they need him to win games there.

Barcelona right now has no money to spend on signings. That makes the club opt for players who end up contracting (Gundogan, Messi, Iñigo M.). With Messi, in addition, Barcelona would win in terms of repercussion and that translates into money.
From the sporting point of view there are things for and against.
You would gain in attack with a spectacular last pass, control of the games and other things.
Obviously having a player who doesn't defend anything is a problem. There Xavi will have to find the balance.
I've read that Xavi envisions a similar system as Argentina played with Messi in a central playmaker role surrounded by players that cover space for him, just with a stronger emphasis on possession. Xavi seems to believe this could work and if it does, it sounds pretty exciting to me.

Its not just Messi, Lewandowski is also getting old, he wont be able to press as he used to in the past either.
This sounds a lot like the last couple of years of Suarez-Messi, yes it leads to goals in la liga, but balance was not great.
Also, you better hope your game plan doesn't revert back to "pass it to Messi" for El Clasico, cause then he can be isolated and crowded out.
Age is already showing, if their plan is to play Lewandowski every game then its a bad idea, they need a back-up striker.

I have the impression when a player above a certain age threshold has a dip of form, people are always attributing it to age.

Barcelona are very interested in Vitor Roque. The club can go up to a certain amount (around €40M). If the signing becomes an auction, the player will not go to Barcelona.
You're a Real Madrid fan and thus filled with hatred for everything Messi and Barcelona but sadly you are right in this instance. It is not a good idea for him to go back IMO, for either party. Going back usually just doesn't work, in life generally, let alone top level football.

That is the difference between playing 1 game in cup competition v 38 games in a season. PSG have lost to teams who's entire wage budget is less than Messi's alone. Put UTD in Ligue 1 and your players will also look like world beaters most of the time...

He's visibly been in decline since he was 31/32, its just his lower(not lowest lvl) level means it hard to know when to write him off. I had written him off for the WC, but him and Argentina tbf proved me wrong on that occasion.
I honestly dont think Barca should bring him back. Apart from having him play a few games and then retire there since Barca is his true club.
Barça won’t win any international tournament with or without him next year, so it would be beautiful to see him in Barcelona having a nice farewell tour and giving his last moments of inspiration to the club that watched him grow as a man and as a Goat.
I dislike Barcelona, true, but i don't think thats entirely fair, disliking the club doesn't mean i necessarily hate individual players, i dont have a problem Messi, fantatic player and seems to be a decent enough guy, i even like some of them, Iniesta as an example, one of my favorite players to watch(whenever he wasn't playing against RM that is).

I just feel you can't build around nostalgia. Fergie couldnt let go of Scholes and Giggs and buy some proper midfielders. Building around a 36 year old Messi and a old Lewandowski just seems like a bad idea. Real Madrid know when its the right time to move players on. The thing is that Messi is bigger than the club and apart from giving him a fitting fairwell i cant see the point in bringing him back.
Barcelona tries to build with its economic limitations. That's the reality of the club right now.
If the club had money and FFP would have already signed Bernardo Silva last year for example.
I suppose that both Messi and Lewandowski will be 2 years while the economic situation of the club improves.
And we will have to continue signing free players, market opportunities and academy players for a while.
Chelsea don't seem to be doing so well despite those hefty salaries.

I'd say top 2 (with Pele) and arguably outright goat. He ticks all the boxes from genius level ability (in his dribbling, playmaking and goalscoring), longevity, individual success (record 7 ballond'ors, 6 golden shoes, multiple player of the season and tournament awards), and collective success as the best player multiple times including the World Cup.

It would be a big mistake coming back to Barca for anything more than a squad role.
He can still pull out the magic but not as frequently as he used to even 3 years ago. He's much weaker physically now and gets dispossessed way too easily.
