Lionel Messi - Performances

I would shit bricks every time he touched the ball against us. Haven't felt that terror against a player since.

In hindsight, peak Messi against Almunia, Silvestre, Denilson and Clichy. It's almost embarrassingly mismatched.

Almost?!

He comes back from injury and starts scoring and playing like he never left. Its like he is on constant greatness mode.

I know it would never happen but would love to see him playing for United! OT would light up again!

It's hard to think of how a player could ever be better than him. He's just so good at everything.

Agreed. I am willing to bet anything I will never see a better player than him.

It actually confuses me how anyone can think Ronaldo is a better player than him. It's subjective of course, but better player? Really?

The better goalscorer is a lot more debatable - you could argue for both. But in terms of the greater player - Messi trounces Ronaldo for me.

Still - Messi was brilliant today. I really want to see him live before he retires.

How was he yesterday? I've not watched much of Barcelona last few weeks.

He was jeered at and spat on by the River Plate fans in the airport. Some mental people out there.

Glad he's regaining his fitness and is getting back to business.

It's the majority v the Ronaldo diehards in the debate. Any sane person can see the difference and that's no insult to CR7 who is an all-time great in his own right.

Just read on another site that for the 2015 year we have Messi with 47 goals, Suarez with 46 goals and Neymar with 41 goals. I don't think there is any trio in the history that's managed numbers like that.

My Sunday league team once had five players with over fifty goals in the calendar year, we just about won the league by about 100 points, let's see Barca top that.

Just how good is his dribbling? Both attemps and percentage of successful attempts are just unparallel. 70% success rate with more than 10 attempts is unheard of.

I think he profits a lot in that regard from having Suarez and Neymar in the team. Opposition teams just can't afford to have 2-3 players being occupied with trying to stop him at all times, which gives him more space.

It was good to see Messi back to his very best again last season with some ridicilous playmaking displays. I hope he'll have an excellent second half of the season.

It's been a privilege to watch him and I despise the idea some hold that opposition fans can't admire him. It's been a brilliant ride and I'm glad I got to see him live once. Except that time he put four past Arsenal.
Must've been bitter sweet to watch.

Hope King Leo turns it on tonight. I haven't seen him play in ages.
