He wouldn't get in to the Spurs team but he's paid more than almost all their players.

Part and parcel of being the biggest club with the largest revenue in the wealthiest league in football.

Do you think any of those Spurs players wouldn't earn a lot more than they do now if we bought them? Most would probably double it I reckon...

Not enough people are paying attention to my shit opinions, so I'm going to write a very long post.

Came in here to say exactly this.

I'm not going to comment on the salary but I feel he deserves this contract. He's home grown and loyal to this club from a young age and it's the sort of player that will be happy as a squad player and always works hard, the sort of player every club needs. I think it's also a move to ensure we fulfil home grown quotas because with Brexit, it's going to get a lot more expensive to acquire home grown players with possible work permit issues for foreign players on the horizon possible also. Having said that, I don't think we're in the business of offering contracts to players that don't deserve it or that are not good enough.

It's always good to have academy home grown players in our team. This reward is acknowledging Lingard's effort so far to get into the team, so may it inspire the other academy players. What I feel fear is Lingard not playing with efforts anymore and stop trying. I expect him to still play with commitment like he always do though. Yeah, relating with the high salary... hope it doesn't get into his head that much, just as it have affected the many academy players of us before this. But I'm not too worried, since Lingard is not the kind of players who are interested in the star/celebrity limelight.

Ashley young on £110k a week and now Lingard on £100k, wtf are they smoking at OT?

And that's why we have a chance of signing players like Kane and Alli. No chance they'd be on their current wages if they played for us.

Seems to me it's the price of keeping your home grown English players. Coupled that with a club the stature of United, and well, there it is.

I don't mind Lingard. Good enough to come off the bench and can start some games here and there. Injects a lot pace and effort, and scores the odd goal with some of them being quite important goals. I don't think he'll improve all that much going forward, will never be a full time starter.

With the perspective of this is just the cost of doing business, good signing. Of course he wouldn't be making this much signing for a club like Spurs. But we're not Spurs.

Langard getting a new contract gives me hope that I could still play for United one day - despite being fat and closer to 30 than 20

 100k a month? A lot of starters from Barca, Madrid and Bayern earn that. Crazy.

Not going to get into the wages discussion.
Mourinho wants him to stay. That is what matters.
When Lingard runs at defenders and scores that goal, I think we are lucky to have him.
At other times he simply fades from the match.
His lack of consistency is what is frustrating.
We have a player we cannot depend on.

But Mourinho obviously sees something for our future in him.

You always speak in poem?

He'll be making more than Martial, Rashford (20k), Herrera, Bailly, Carrick, Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Blind

Now he is never going to leave because no sane club will offer half that.

I think that's pretty much the idea behind offering him a long term contract.

wow.. so much. you really think that's good enough? we dont play at wembley week in week out in case you've forgotten

He plays for the biggest club in England with the highest wages. With the wages we are paying, yes he deserves that.

If there's no longer a spot for him in our squad then he'll be loaned out and his wages supplemented by us, same as happened with Nani.

Martial scores a beauty - 'Oh he's clearly world class, worth every penny, Madrid will be sniffing around'

Lingard scores a beauty - 'phfft, still crap, at least it'll mean some lower ranking club might take a chance on him one day'.

I'm not Lingard's biggest fan, but he's pulling his weight, and clearly showing more than some of our other young players atm, yet he gets bashed for signing a perfectly deserving contract, mad, but there's always one kid in playground who gets picked on no matter what he does.

On the basis of this year's performance alone, where he has consistently played better than Martial, Rashford, Mkhi and Pogba, he deserves that new contract and salary raise.

And talking of wages, my advice to a few Caf Members: Don't get so worked up! It's bad for your health. Plus it's not going out of your pocket. There are people in Manchester United much more qualified than you deciding on these matters.

As long as Lingard continues to play like this, he will be an integral part of United's match day squad, and often be in the first eleven. Deal with it.

It's because it isn't deserving

Martial scored nearly 20 goals last season. Show me Lingard ever doing that?

Insane wages for somebody who at this moment is not good enough to be starting for Utd or England.
Find him very frustrating to watch in utd colours. Nothing personal about the lad you want the youth boys to succeed more than anything but i personally think he's miles off the £100,000 bracket. He's got a worldie of a goal in him but it will be on very few occasions. I think his link up play is currently poor and quite cowardly. His pace/athleticism masks over alot of his short comings.
You would of thought he would of bit the clubs hand off for £50,000/£60,000 a week contract.
As others have posted the club may be stuck with a future underperforming/unwanted player running down a contract as his wages will scares off all future takers on him.
Hopefully it's £100,000 contract made up of performance related incentives rather than a scary flat sum.

Not interested if you can't explain your reasoning in your reply.
Because he doesn't have the quality needed if we want to return to being a European force.
Certainly not enough to warrant 100k a week!

we held all the aces, he's replaceable, playing for his childhood club and happy to be a squad player, why on earth we agreed at 100k is mental

I'm sorry but where does this idea that he's played consistently enter than those guys come from? Between the community shield and league cup final he was very underwhelming to say the least. I think he scored once and assisted twice in that time. He's been decent/good recently but that doesn't mean we should rewrite history

He only watches matches at Wembley

Lingard is 24, Martial is 20 and Rashford 19. Lingard is not a young player yet gets talked about as one. What we see now, imho, will be close to his peak.

You should learn to post without being so condescending and obnoxious.
