This is exactly why he's hated by so many United fans. Why let off-the-field events affect your view of a player? Judge him purely by his football on the pitch and let a young lad have his fun off it. Blood boiling because of a few pictures and videos

His output on the pitch in relation to these wages makes my blood boil aswell.

Seriously mate, do you think that people like Lingard and an ancient Carrick can make us win the league?

No more so than anyone thought Drinkwater and Huth could be part of a league winning side 18 months ago. It just takes a squad of players who play like a team.

Lingard signs new contract.

Redcafe is worried we wouldn't be able to shift him on. Classic.

Alexis could easily double his wages if he moved to a club that pays its players properly.
Agree, it was just to highlight what Alexis was on and what we'll be putting Lingard on and the gap in quality - Alexis will definitely be on £200k+ for his last big contract but I'd rather get him and pay that than put Lingard on £100k!

Think it's a stupid figure for a squad player who most likely won't turn into a top winger

Crazy wages for a squad player, especially if we get more attacking players in the summer. But good on him I guess

You're just inventing a false construct to support your non-existent point. What we pay Lingard or Darmian or Rojo, have feck all to do with Griezmann. Each player is evaluated individually relative to their football and brand values.

That's bullshit and you know it, negotiations always play off what others are getting paid, like Sanchez and Ozil wanting parity with the top players at United, City and Chelsea, do you honestly think each player treats negotiations as a singular event that takes place in it's own bubble?

This is one of those things in football where it's too ridiculous to be true - more than likely it's heavily bonus orientated, that or we're the worst negotiators in the world(although there's a lot of substance to that argument).

At what point does Jesse Lingard's agent baulk at 90k a week? What kind of leverage would he have in negotiations?

So you really think Griezmann will say: hey that guy Lingard has 100k a week, give me 400!

I'm certain this is Woodward's idea of flexing our financial muscles and preparing for a tough transfer window if we miss out on CL. Players are becoming more and more mercenary so there's method to this madness - not that I approve but I want to see top players at OT. This will generate a lot of backlash and create a lot of frustrated players at rival clubs who are much better players but paid much less.

In isolation, ridiculous. Hopefully will be good for our pulling power in the long run.

I'm sure Griezmann's agent is gleefully rubbing his hands to prepare a 500k wage demand by citing Lingard's new contract.

"We think Antoinne should get 500k/wk since we noticed you paid Jesse Lingard 100k/wk".

All broken clocks are correct twice a day. Doesn't mean random fans know more about football than professional managers and people who actually run football clubs for a living.
So those people can't make obvious mistakes? Moyes was a professional too.

I think he'll look at the value and see that the market has increased, if medicority is now worth a 100K then world class has to be worth more than it was a year ago. Worse still is a player like Isco or Fabinho will no longer be seeing 120k a week as substantial when they see the type of level that is already getting a 100k a week.

Better than Young, plays more than Young, much younger than Young, earns less than Young, so not arsed about this at all in comparison. Decent squad player tied down and his while his wages are high, they are not obscene.

Go listen to Gary Neville about how he negotiatied Phil's contracts by leveraging what other players at the club and in the league were getting based off level, then you might see how we have just stuck 50k a week on what a world class player should be expecting at United.

Market has increased and gone crazy long before Lingard signed a new contract.

Young was a terrible signing and we're still lumbered with him because we gave him a ridiculous contract. Why are you comparing Lingard with him to try and make out this is a good deal?

If you actually think Griezmann's agent is going to use Jesse Lingard's contract to negotiate higher wages for Griezmann then knock yourself out.

So basically just keep inflating it with no sense of logic at all? BWe don't need Jesse Lingard, if he leaves here his only route is down, there was no need to make him a 6 figure a week earner and increase the pay structure for medicority in the process, that's just adding fuel to the fire unessicarily.

I think every player coming here has just seen the bar raised for how much you can bend us over for, if you can't see that then I don't know what to say, it's baffling, like head in the sand stuff!

Sensible decision and well deserved.

Read the statement from Mourinho and maybe some of you will understand the clubs approach regarding giving Lingard a lucrative 4 year contract. Players like Pogba, Zlatan and Rooney get extra paid because of their marketability. A win win for both parties. The same apply's to Lingard. Think about "Theatre of Dreams". Dreams isn't only about fame and trophy's. Local lad making a fortune playing for his boyhood club. That's marketable and makes it easier for the club to recruit or buy young talents.

Jesse Lingard epitomize the ultimate dream if you're a academy player. Even a moderate talent can with determination and hard work get rewarded with a "golden contract".

I'm sure they're all queuing up to take us to the cleaners. I hear Bale is interested in joining us for 800k/wk after news of Jesse's new contract.

Good news on the new deal.
Mind boggling sums for player wages at any level these days.

So 100k a week is now the base figure? No wonder we have the highest wage bill in the league. He's ok but so were Evans and Welbeck. He also plays in a part of the field where we have been seriously malfunctioning. Not sure I understand this story (if it's true).
