Ligue 1 | French Football 2017/18

Championnat National (level three) is basically just one big relegation battle with two rounds to go. Another fascinating thing is that there is roughly zero correlation between goals scored and league position. And look at Cholet in 10th place outscoring and outconceding everyone.

Has had an excellent season. Would love us to sign and use him like Tottenham use Eriksen or play the diamond like this:

Sanchez - Lukaku

Fekir

Silvaesque shielding of the ball, and also left footed.

Him and Sanchez behind the striker would be a tenacious combo.

Good lord, you gotta get up to 5th before you’re really safe from the relegation places.

Update:

One round left and one relegation spot up for grabs, and I think all the teams from 8th to 15th could still go down, having had a quick glance at match-ups in the last round and H2H, which goes before GD. In theory it could be decided by H2H between six teams on 40 points. (Not seven, because Chambly and Lyon Duchere face each other.)

 This settles my issues with United. I'll support us for wanting to win things and watch this Cholet side for my entertainment. Their games must be crazy to outscore and outconcede every other team.

Cmon!! Les Herbiers!! almost 20mins gone 0-0 and Cavani has already dived once.

EDIT: 25min 8sec they lasted.. 0-1 PSG

VAR cancels PSG's second goal for a Marquinhos handball in the build-up.
It can be argued that Marquinhos movement, even though he was being "fouled", isn't very natural, hence the the ref's decision.

PSG seem content with the 1-0.....just 5 shots on target tonight.

Thauvin is surely going to Russia, isn't he? He is having a fantastic season.

Very much likely to happen, Deschamps is a fan of the kid as well so I don't see him missing out on a spot on the squad. He'll probably get some minutes off the bench.

What the feck is that? Thauvin should be in that over Mbappe or Neymar. He has been better than Mbappe and while Neymar's performance level has been the highest, he only participated in 20 games. How can you get in the team of the year with just one half of a season?

Payet is unlucky to miss out as well, has there really been a better midfielder in France this season? 13 assists is the same as Neymar in the league and 20 assist in all comps is the same as De Bruyne, the joint-most in europe from what I could gather.

He had to because he was voted player of the year too  but I agree with you, he shouldn't have been in this 11 and he shouldn't won the award too. The worst part is that Thauvin finished 2nd in the player of the year award but he isn't in the best 11 :wenger:

The question here is who he doesn't like? Fékir and Thauvin are among the ones that he likes but are they going to be both in the team?

Memhpis Depay with a cheeky free kick goals, his second of the game, to put Lyon in a Champions League spot. Rafael also playing.

Edit: Depay completed his hat-trick. 3-1

3-2 Full time. Lyon, with former United players Rafael & Depay, to join Monaco & Paris SG in next year's Champions League.

Heartbreaking for Marseille, who lost the Europa League final, and now finished 4th, just missing out on the Champions League on two occasions.

What a performance by Depay.

Fekir looks a brilliant player, and even seems he can improve his fitness a bit.

Stade de Reims won Ligue 2 with a 15-point gap to second place. Glad they're back in the top tier again. Only french team other than Marseille to have played in two Champions League (European Cup) finals.

Yeah, I have no idea. I saw Lille 4 or 5 times and I don't remember him. Thiago Maia was rubbish though.

I haven't watched too much of Lille this season either but he looked decent in 16/17. I remember thinking he would be a typical midtable PL player, can play both in midfield and defence, strong in duels.
