Sorry yeah, goals
He’s a bit of a risk granted and I’m sure we’d have rather Gyokeres but it seems he’s almost certainly Arsenal bound.
There is no way we're going to sign Delap without an established striker aswell.
It would almost be a keeping Ten Hag type error for this summers window if we do.

Or going into the season with only Hojlund as a CF new to the league…There is no way we're going to sign Delap without an established striker aswell.

Delap is capable of about 15 PL goals which isn't bad. Cunha is capable of the same or more. Both will be very good additions. If we sign Delap and nobody else at striker then frankly we deserve what we’ll get, and that’s mid-table or lower
Is he?

Agree with this, feel very much like United of old when we used to pick up young British talents like Daniel James for reasonable prices. He’s a proper United signing. Get her done.

Probably Mateta. More matured and has good ball striking technique.I get that but what is the realistic alternative? I think we knew Gyokeres wanted Arsenal and Osimhen is Saudi bound so if those 2 are off the table who should we sign if not Delap?
Who is that established striker though given Gyokeres and Osimhen seem to be off the table?
His fundamentals are excellent, deft first touch, can pick a pass, shields the ball really well, has scored double figures for a bottom 3 team, and you just know that if we miss out on him we'll regret it in years to come when his value sky rockets. What are his fundamentals like? As in technique, dribbling etc? I've not followed him at all this season - and the times we played him, he came across as a hardworker but one of those "battering ram" type of strikers, and I'd hope our striker would be more than that
edit - you know, what? time for a youtube scouting session
Really hope INEOS know what they are doing, staggered we haven't gone proven after the Hojlund experiment. No point in high crosses because won't be anyone to meet them. OK I will begrudgingly get on the train but very worried.Well now that Ornstein has confirmed Osimhen is not an option we had better hope Delap chooses us. We are not the only club interested and I have no idea where else we go if he turns us down as the other options are just as unproven and significantly more expensive.
I'm fuming we haven't signed a proven striker and just cannot understand the thinkingI'm conscious that some fans on here force themselves to be positive about our signings because they don't want to be seen as negative, or not giving a player a chance, or a basic appeal to authority of "I'm sure the club know better than the fans". You seen it when anyone who questioned the Casemiro signing due to his age was attacked, or those convincing themselves that Mount would be a good signing when anyone could see it was a disastrous waste of funds at the time.
Getting another young, relatively inexperienced, relatively unproven striker in to fix our goalscoring woes feels so so wrong. If he had two seasons in a row of hitting 15 in the premier league say - ok, that's a much safer bet. But last season, he was in the championship, and scored 8 goals. He's obviously done well to hit double figures and outperform expectations this season but a players progression is not linear and you can't say just because a player has had one decent season for a lower club his output will go through the roof when he moves to a better side and he will perform to the level expected of an elite striker at an elite club.
If there are genuinely no more proven strikers on the market, then fair enough, we have no choice. But I fear if we go into next season with striking options of Delap/Zirkzee or Delap/Hojlund we're probably in a bit of trouble, again.
I wish this myth would stop being peddled and be allowed to die peacefully. At no stage would the well publicized 'hard to deal with' Levy have entertained a United bid for Kane, having already turned down a 100m city bid for him a year earlier. He made it quite clear Kane wasn't going to be allowed to go to a premier league rival. Hence his eventual move to Bayern.12 goals this season
8 in the championship last season
Big risk to hang your season on him being your number 1 striker next season, especially when you took one 2 years ago opting for Hojlund over Kane
Think people feel we should have at least tested the water and not just accepted defeatI wish this myth would stop being peddled and be allowed to die peacefully. Wild that he's Rory Delap's son.
Because no young striker has ever improved their strike rate as they developed!!111 appearances -25 goals
We are officially no longer a big club.

Do you think Watkins would be this cheap in terms of transfer and wages? Not every young English striker is Rooney. He looks painfully average in every aspect of the game, agility wise, striking the ball, passing, pace, probably positioning is his best attribute and he ia not a positioning genius. I would rather get Watkins at least we know what we get ( a good goalscorer).
