Let's talk 'keepers: who do we buy and why?

Kovar gets plenty of mentions on here but there were more reports yesterday that Leverkusen are looking to move him on because he hasn't performed well enough in the opportunities that he's had. If that's the case then clearly he's not good enough to return here.
Reports that indicate Leverkusen are looking at Freiburg's Noah Atubolu to replace Kovar. Maybe he could also be a better option for United than Kovar.

From what I've seen he had a good run as their EL 'keeper last year as they got to the final (and I don't think was at fault for any of the goals against Atalanta) but doesn't seem to be playing at the same level in his opportunities this season, most of which have been in Europe again in the CL this time. Think he might have had the odd howler or two...

I'm not really sure what the urge seems to be to get him back other than the fact he's perceived as affordable (although there's no concrete reports on what the buyback amount is) and that not he's not Andre Onana.

Kelleher would be a solid option, but not sure Liverpool would sell to us, even with just a year left on his deal.

Carnesecchi (Atalanta) is also coming into the final year of his deal and is a good sweeper-style keeper.

Joan García looks good (Arsenal, City, Barca all apparently interested) but would probably be expensive.

Difficult to look past Alex Meret in the bargain stakes as he's going for free this summer.
Came here to say Joan Garcia, big guy, very commanding.

Most sources say that Joan Garcia has a 25-30 million euros release clause.

So Kovar is now even benched in the cup... looks a bit like the end of the road in Leverkusen for him, full trust in Hradecky now and in the summer Leverkusen will look for a new successor to him.

Going by the eye test, I still maintain that Kepa is one to keep in mind as a Onana replacement.

No one, we already have 2 decent keepers and there are other areas of the team we need to prioritise
It’s by no means no.1 priority but if a decent enough bid comes in for Onana then we should snap them up. He’s proven he isn’t reliable enough for a team aspiring to challenge for top honours which is the standards we need to get back to over the next 2 years.

I, maybe optimistically, believe Onana could be sold for around £20m. And Marco Carnesecchi's contract is expiring in 2026 so I can see Atalanta selling him for a similar fee. If Burnely don't get promoted, then James Trafford will be going for not too much more than that either. Carnesecchi would seem like an immediate upgrade but Trafford maybe has the highest ceiling.
