Let's all laugh at England

‘Only getting top four’

So? People use "only" in that sentence, because United are used to a higher standard of achievement - e.g. winning stuff. If Villa were to make top four no one would laugh at them.

Will we ever live to see the day when England fans in this forum could finally start a 'let's all laugh' thread on the anti-England brigade?

So, let's say Harry Kane killed a pigeon with that PK and I called my wife to tell her.

Where once I could say "Kane literally killed a pigeon!", now I have to say "I'm not joking, Kane actually killed a pigeon. I saw it. I'm not kidding. He really, truthfully did."

I'm out.
To be fair, Kane has broken plenty of chicken hearts.

Not exactly. Both words have kept their literal meaning but you can use literally as a figure of speech and by definition it would make literal non-literal, for example "I'm literally dying" that's hyperbolic and it's an appropriate use of literal in an hyperbole.

An other example is the expression "impossibly long" when it almost always referes to something possible. The same applies to infinitely which is often used in a non-literal sense.
Quite clearly you are right, but in my world "literally" is the one word that cannot be used as a figure of speech, 'cause it means "as the word says, no hyperbole allowed".

It leaves no room for doubt. English is so muddled already - it was good to have a word that couldn't be mauled.

Don't you all do that before the tournament starts?

Look guys, I'll be honest: If England had won it their fans would have pretended they are as big as Uruguay and we all know how annoying the following discussion would have been. So I think it's probably for the best that Harry went for the English way out.

You could do it now if you wanted because most of the people laughing are from countries who didn't get as far or only got as far as England.

not until they come anywhere near qualifying for anything

Oh you’re back!

Your fellow Germans said you’d boycotted the tournament this year as you were nowhere to be seen when Germany were dumped out of the group!

The salt in this thread is a thing of beauty

They do know there has been let's all laugh at.... threads for other countries eliminated?

@Blackbeard :lol:

So you're keeping track of my posts? Unfortunately the interest isn't mutual.

Hoping England flop badly enough that the FA have no choice but to get rid of Southgate. Unfortunately I think that would be out at group stage otherwise it will be spun to keep their man in post.
 The feck?

I’m living in Ireland man. Went out to watch it and the celebrations were insane here. It’s actually not healthy-and we’ll all be supporting United and heading over to England again in the next few weeks.
Yes it’s really weird the Irish fans who are full of hated for England but support an English team. Stick with Shamrock Rovers.

I can’t stop watching it.

I think Declan Rice is a problem. Look at Tchouameni [I’m sure I’ve butchered the spelling] & even someone like Casemiro. They offer so much more consistently.

Every now & then Rice will go on a Gerrard-esque foray then lose his head once it comes to the shot or pass but he’s generally rather one dimensional.

Ideally you sacrifice a Henderson, get more from Rice allowing Bellingham to still have elements of freedom to his play & I’d get Foden in there as he’s proven he’s not a winger for England.

Rice needs to step up his in possession contribution if England are to win anything.
