To be honest if he's available I could see woodward trying to make it happen regardless of the managers wishes. He's wanted Bale for years.

Usually I'd agree with you but I think the Sanchez fiasco has folks thinking differently these days.
Great player, definitely world class on his day. But injuries + wages are a hugeeee stumbling block. If we can sign him for 30-40m and he would take a huge pay cut, plus we would have to ensure there are playing clauses on the transfer fee + wages.
Forget about Bale. If we were one player away from CL glory I'd give Bale some thought, but the squad needs 3-4 players to compete for the PL trophy.

The only bit in my post that requires knowledge of his motivation is the bit about why he'd leave. It's not much of a leap, if at all, to say what I did given he very publicly stated his desire to stay at Madrid when linked to us in the past.

His pace was one of his strongest assets and that'll be declining soon, if it hasn't already; he's always injured, he's rejected us before, and he'd want extortionate wages.

Problem is his wages, and it's simply too big a stumbling block. There's no way we would pay near what he's on at the moment and it's naive as hell to imagine he will take a massive pay cut to come here.
On that basis it's a non starter unfortunately. I loved him at Spurs and do believe that he would still be brilliant for us (if he stayed fit) but it simply won't happen.

I think both DDG & Pogba are off in the summer if we don't have CL. Have a horrible feeling that Real will stitch us up & get us to do a player swap. Pogba & DDG for Courtois & Bale. When you also consider how crap we are in our transfer dealings i wouldn't put it past Real to get a few million of Woody too.
