Leon Bailey

Whatever the case, he has had a fantastic career with us and now Portugal, wore the captain armband in his countries first ever victory in a major tournament.

I wouldn't say he had a fantastic career with us. It pretty much evident that most of our honors in the last few years of SAF reign came thanks to the old man.

We've gone from being the team who unearthed Ronaldo to being the last team in Europe who spotted him and only team willing to pay for him in a matter of 10 posts.

Another day in the caf.

What does this even mean? Obviously we were important in helping him realise his potential but it was well corroborated that he was wanted by lots of elite teams and we simply beat them to it. Burying your head in the sand wouldn't change that fact. People were arguing against the notion that he was an absolute nobody only United knew about.

You just summed up what I was saying

Yeah... So, err... Leon Bailey...

Christ I was talking about our relative knowledge of him vs Bailey now. Things have changed. He was unknown to us, fans. Whereas bailey isn't thanks to social media etc

And let's be honest, if it weren't for that friendly we wouldn't have bought him

Sorry for going off topic but couldn't let this slide.

The bit in bold is simply untrue. SAF confirmed we were close to signing him before that game.

Yeah, its believed all it did was speed up the timing of the transfer as other teams were sniffing.

Apparently Bayer Leverkusen and Stoke are front runners for him with Stoke willing to pay €19M.

Would happily swap them Memphis for that fee! I think the lads going to be special

Have we been linked with him lately?
I don't know about lately, but we've scouted a few times and the Belgian media have linked us too. Bailey himself said it's quite an honour to be linked with a club like Manchester United but he isn't ready to leave unless he can get consistent first team football.

The agent of RacingGenk sensation Leon Bailey has confirmed the interest of Manchester United.

However, Ronnie Rosenthal fears Genk's €20 million will put them off.

"Manchester United is one of the top clubs who are very interested. But 20 million, that is rather a price for players who have already proven themselves in the Champions League or in a big competition," said Rosenthal to Fan!

The agent also would prefer to do business in the summer.

"That's less hectic. Clubs have more choice, making him more likely to end up at a club that can use him well.

"In addition, he has then the preseason as a walk-in period."

HLN reported yesterday that Stoke City had lodged a €20 million bid for Bailey.

Reports in Belgium are that he has agreed personal terms with Leverkusen. Clubs are yet to agree a fee.

Dang, he really looks like the type of player Spurs need and could use. Essentially a Sadio Mane type, although I'm still holding out hope that Georges-Kevin Nkoudou can be that for us.

According to reports he has also agreed terms with HULL also. 25% of his rights are owned by his father. It will be messy transfer for whoever signs him.

Hope he doesn't go to Hull. They are a team that will ask him to defend first and attack later, that's not going to help him progress IMO.

Leverkusen would be a good option.

I hope he goes to hull save them from relegation and helps them take points of our rivals helping us get 4th and then signs for us in summer for double the amount hull paid just to boil some piss

I mean yeah sure that's nice scenario, but Hull seem to be playing a 3-5-2, don't think he will suit a wingback role unless they change to a 3-4-3 and use him as a wide forward.

Being a US fan I didn't understand why he isn't a huge player for Jamaica and did some digging.

Looks like his father / agent wants a meeting the Jamaican Football Federation President to see how to best develop youth talent in the country and this hasn't happened yet so, he's holding out.

Apparently Belgium is monitoring the situation and he may make the switch sometime soon...

Ill be honest id be quite disappointed, I like seeing talent stay in CONCACAF.

That's pretty old news to be fair. Anyways Leon did an interview some weeks back clarifying his international future for the moment. He said international football was not his main priority right now and that he would still represent the black, green and gold if we were to get the infrastructure and system in place for youth to flourish. Can't knock him on that one. Best he focuses on his Leverkusen career for now and move to a much better side in a season or two.

He made his debut today in a 1-0 defeat at Hamburg. Didn't do much in his brief cameo but I see him getting more of the action as the season progresses.

If he was available right now, I think Liverpool would be all over it with their new cash, too.

The problem with signing guys from Leipzig, Dortmund, Schalke, Leverkusen, Gladbach and Hoffenheim at the moment is that they are all in that tight Champions League battle, which makes it worthwhile to hold onto their best players or the coach.

But yeah I think he´s at least as good as Lemar for half the price. You can trigger Brandt´s release clause with the difference and still rent yourself an Alexis Sanchez for six months.

Was about to bump this thread myself. I think this kid is more dynamic than Malcolm, albeit a lesser passer than him. Definitely has skills though.. wouldn't mind signing a talent like him.

I'm not sure I could ever idolize a player that is the spits of Bruno Mars but maybe I'd warm to him if he scored the winner against the scousers that lands us the title in 2019.

I doubt Leverkusen would let him go this window but if we can sign him now with him staying for the rest of the season then that'd be ideal. He still has lots of issues in his game that needs to be improved but his development has been rapid so far.

I would still take Brandt for cheap due to his release clause. It is time for a young talented German player in our squad

Brandt's another good option. I'd take either of them to be honest if they were available, but Bailey edges it for me currently.

Come on, you know how it works on here don’t you ? Mentality says “sign them both”.

I don't see it anything special in Brandt, though only seen him a couple of times.

Would make sense. Brandt has a €17M release clause and Bailey will probably be €17M cheaper than a random Brazilian from Benfica or Monaco, just by virtue of his nationality and the Bundesliga selling/buying a little lower in the market.

Has Brandt not been linked with Bayern? Would make sense as Ribery and Robben will need replacing soon and it's a very low figure.

Bailey is the one that I mentioned long ago and I would still love to see here.

Yes he has. Bayern and Liverpool, too. I´m just saying that Brandt and Bailey is not a greedy/outrageous scenario for a real rich club due to the circumstances. I´d say you´ll pay less for Brandt+Bailey in the summer than Lemar right now, and it´s arguable whether Lemar is better than either.

Nothing I've seen from Brandt suggests he will be good enough for a top club. That he has a cheap release clause doen't really change that lol. Bailey has looked very promising but so far Lemar is on another level, as well as being a different player. Too early for Bailey to go to a top club, he's barely just settled in at Leverkusen.
