Does anyone know why him and Maz seem to be switching game to game? I thought everyone on here was in agreement you have LCB Yoro - De Ligt CB - RCB Maz if you are fielding these three players, yet Maz was out on the left at one point.

The talent is there, I did think he was a bit faster than he is from people's reviews on him before he joined but I wonder if it's a bit of a knock on from coming back from injury mid season.

I guess he can become a bit faster with weight training and whatnot. He's probably just stopped growing.

Elanga and I believe Sulemana are rapid, but he's not a young Varane. Not blessed with pace, but defender very well. Very determined in his defence at times.

I think Mazraoui is our only outright fast CB, and he is not the fastest either.

Fast CBs are still quite rare in general. There aren't many Upamecanos and van de Vens around.

I'm pretty sure Yoro is faster than Mazraoui, who I certainly wouldn't say is fast.

Yoro doesn't seem to be as fast as we were perhaps led to believe, but I'd still say he's fairly fast.

Heaven and Yoro both look faster than Mazraoui to me

Not seeing it's a necessity or the be all end all at all, but I think there are are plenty fast English/French/Dutch CB's. Whether they are good is something else ofcourse.

Our own Kambwala was lightning quick for example, in the Dutch NT we have Van de Ven, Timber, Geertruida all being very fast. England have Gomez, Tomori for example, France Upamecano, Saliba, Lacroix. The likes of Rudiger, Militao etc.

Don't think so at all, especially not on the first few meters. Look at how Mazraoui was able to keep up with Doku, really doubt Yoro would.

Mazraoui is more physically developed and very smart in using his body and agility over smaller spaces, which is quite typical for your average full back as they are involved in 1 vs 1 duels in the channels.

Yoro looks a bit slower off the mark but probably has a bit more in the tank over longer distances due to his length/stride, which again is quite typical for your average (athletic) centre back as they deal with off the ball runs in behind and in space.

You're right, it's closer than we think as of now anyways.

Heaven is definitely our fastest CB.

Agree with this. However both Heaven and Yoro look lightweight. We need someone with strength and speed. Presently we have one or the other. We need someone with both.

I don't think Heaven does. He looks a decent size already, and you'd expect he'll fill out further over the next couple of years.

However he's played so few games that it's difficult to really plan with him in mind as plenty of players make a good impression on their early outings then go on to not do much after that.

Was it him with that long cross field ball in the second half against Forest?

He looks much better on the ball when he is playing on the left. He seems more confident coming out and playing some line breaking passes.

A bit easier to do from LCB as he comes inside on his right foot which opens the pitch, rather than at RCB where hes often forced down the line or back to his CB. He needs to gain a bit more confidence in side stepping the pressing forward when at RCB so he can come inside and open the pitch up

Man Utd 0:0 Man City New
Very good performance, like the way he brings the ball out from defence. Even when he made an error to let the City player past him, he made the right decision to take the yellow card.

Fantastic today. Did everything we're looking for from a CB in this system. If he replicates that as a RCB and Heaven can do the same, we're set for years.

Brilliant player. Much better on the left though which means a selection headache next season.

I've never known any set of fans obsessed with insisting a right footed centre back has to play on the left.

He's 19 and we have a small sample of games. He was probably performing worse earlier in the season because he's a kid settling into a broken team.

Having a few good games on the left since he's settled in should not dictate the next 15 years of his career.

There's no reason a right footed centre back should be amazing on the left and shit on the right.

The fact he can play on the left comfortably is a bonus.

He's really starting to look comfortable and was very good again today. It's going to be a very bad season regardless but his development can be one bright spark and he is one of very few players we have who could be part of an actually good United side in a few years' time.

He has that Rio-esque calmness and elegance. No worries when he's on the ball or one on one.

He’s fulfilling all those early hypes.

I was joking before, but now i’m seriously hoping his head won’t be turned by the likes of Madrid.

Signing of the season so far. Plays like a veteran.

He said himself he prefers playing on the left.

You can see the talent - especially compared to other young ‘top talents’ in recent years. He’s the real deal.

If he stays injury free, he’s got such a good chance of being one of the best around.

One mistake that he had to make up with a foul and yellow card. But another good performance.

Genuinely can't believe we've signed this lad. He's not just an incredible talent with huge potential, he's already just a really good defender.

United fans have increasingly been doing this thing were they make verdicts on players, their best positions etc, with a pretty small sample of games. Seems these things are ascertained on a week to week basis.

Had a good game on the left this weekend? “That his best position! This will mean a selection headache long-term

Has a poor game on the left the following week and gets burnt for pace by a rapid winger in a couple of instances? “He’s slow isn’t he? Why did we even buy him if his best position is on the right?! Gaffer doesn’t have a clue playing him on the left - top class talent? Don’t make me laugh

Evidence that it pays to sign the obvious profiles for certain positions. Bonus if they turn out to be special talents by having other stand out skills.

CBs should be tall, pacy and good on the ball.

There was one instance around 80th minute when he sprinted all the way back from their penalty area with absolute lightning speed. He will be a monster.

That's what an actual youngster playing at a "big club" should be. You'll find a few of them at the big boys in Spain. The other youngster's we have are more Dortmund, Brighton level who'll probably make the step up or won't.
