20M for a player who is 27 with only 6 months left in his contract, vs a 21 yr old exciting talent 70m euro/62m pound + add on. I really don't know.
Great price. He is a very good player. Will offer lot of options to that front line. Better than Mudryk

Make no mistake i have no intention undermine the player. I will take any decent signing as cover for the wings.

27 million was the price in the end, great business from us, as like you say he would leave for free in the summer.

That is fantastic business for someone with 5 months left on their deal who is openly and publicly at odds with the club. Maybe able to take advantage of Arsenal’s paranoia after Boehly’s stalking!

Wasn’t he out of contract in the summer?
No, 2024. Brighton triggered a 12 month extension earlier this month.

Seeing Fab reporting this as being 21m+5m add-ons which is a pretty good deal.

thanks for the clarification. Now it makes sense.

This is good business for all parties involved.
Brighton get the player out and get a decent fee considering the circumstances
Trossard goes to a title challenger / favourite and probably gets a medal.
Arsenal get some depth, and PL proven player for a good amount.

Why? Are "system players" useless in other systems?
It's not a case about "system players" is a case of players that look way above their quality because of the set up. Players such as Coutinho and Wijnaldum unde Klopp for example.

Players who are average but under certain conditions they can look really good, even world-class. Problem is it's really hard to replicate the same system only to allow that player to shine.

just basically a player needs to play in a system that fits his strength. If you ask even a peak Vardy to play for Barca he will struggle big time.

Why is an average player putting in world class performances consistently? Doesn't that make them more than... average?

Regarding Coutinho and Wijnaldum, players are what they do on the pitch, not preconceived notions of them. If you buy Wijnaldum expecting him to be De Bruyne, then that's your problem. If you bring him on to play him in a situation that maximizes his strengths while helping the team you'll benefit. And the same applies for the vast majority of players in the world.

Yes, I don't think anybody is expecting Wijnaldum to be KDB. Just expect him to be a good midfielder. He isn't, he only shinned under Klopp. Same for Coutinho.

Will prove an excellent signing. He’s a great fit for them in my opinion.

It doesn't help us that everyone knows how much money we have after the Mudryk saga, plus we are seriously pushing for the title now. As far as negotiations go, we were definitely in the weaker position.

Still, 21+6 is solid business for him with 18 months left on his contract.

Oh, I thought it was up this summer! That puts a better face on it then if it were 18 months.

Haven't really ever looked at Trossard and been wowed by anything he does.
Works hard, can score the odd goal but is certainly not a player that will help Arsenal win the league in my opinion.

£20 plus million sounds a good deal, but he wanted out and Brighton wanted him out quickly as he was causing issues.

Annoyingly good signings for them I feel.

He has gone up a level this season and has 7 goals already. For reference both our top scorers (Odegaard and Rashford ) have 8. At 28, he may just be coming into his prime. Hopefully Arsenal can take advantage.

If the reported price is correct (21m?), then it is sure a hell of a bargain. Considering we paid 80m for anthony and ch$ski paid 100m for mudryk. The lad is proven in this league and can hit the ground running. As much as i hate the Arse, this is a very clever and good signing for them it has to be said.

Fair enough, but for comparison Antony has 5 goals in far less minutes, and he's been getting pelters on here for under performing (maybe due to his price tag of course).
Trossard had a poor world cup and hasn't been getting the minutes recently due to a falling out with the coach, it'll take. Bit of time for him to fit in I'd imagine.

Squad player who will probably leave on loan in a couple of years.

Have you seen Trossard play? With the fact that they're still in Europe and the FA Cup, bringing in a proven PL player is good business. Additionally, he's a very clinical forward, one of the best in the league.

I like him a lot but clinical is absolutely not the right word for him. Most in a season is 8 goals. This year he’s improving on that front though. 25 goals in 122 games doesn’t scream clinical.

With ESR and Reiss Nelson being injury prone. He can backup on both wings. He will never be a starter ahead of Saka and Martinelli hence is a smart signing. Mudryk was more of an opportunistic signing which was for the future, but this is for current season.

He'd have been quite useful this season too to bring on against tiring defences. I think more useful than Trossard but that depends on him being able to adapt to the PL quickly.
